17 tier credits per hour is what you get at horseshoe cinci, I'm guessing it's the same there in Balt.

Full disclosure: I work for a casino that hopes to draw from the Baltimore market and I have a good reason to dislike CET.

But my personal biases don't make this any less true:

The Horseshoe is having their opening weekend and it is a holiday weekend at that and on Saturday afternoon the Bravo says they have 9 tables.

That's about one-fifth of their main competitor.

This cannot be good.

Poker room shows 9 games running, what does the rest of the casino look like? I'm pretty sure I saw a post saying that within two hours of opening night, the casino was operating at max capacity (6800) and there was a line around the block. No posting that night to say how good that was or how successful that seemed? I also looked at bravo that night and they were only running 19 tables. Horseshoe is not in competition with any poker room as far as overall operations go. A few pit tables cover an entire poker room for hourly profits. The poker room is there to cater to a small portion of the casino population. But then again, you work for a casino so you should know that right?

I haven't been to the Shoe yet but I'd imagine the lack of free parking due to the Ohio State Navy game earlier was a major factor. That combined with good promos from the competition.

I went to the poker room last night (Friday) and wanted to share my impressions.

Overall, I was very pleased. The dealers were swift, pleasant, and quite competent. The only hiccup came when one dealer incorrectly thought that someone had gotten a "bad beat." The loser had 2's full, and the Horseshoe requires jacks full for a bad beat.

Drinks service was free and quick. You can order food and eat it at the table.

The have an odd straddle rule. Any player, other than the dealer, can straddle pre flop. The person to the left of the straddler will have to act first. I do not care for the rule as it messes up positional advantage and increases my variance. But it is what it is.

The play was TERRIBLE (which is good!) I haven't seen play this loose since I played for fake money with my drunk roommates in college. Calling Q3o against a raise pre flop, calling ANY pair down to the river, etc. I saw one person call pocket deuces in the face of a 3 bet on the turn with a board of over cards and no draws. There were routinely 8 people seeing the flop for raises. There are going to be a lot of swings with that game, but you can't help but win if you hang in there and keep your cool.

There is plenty of space in the room. You will definitely not feel cramped there. Chairs are comfortable. Plenty of flat screen TV's.

Looking forward to going back.

When you factor in that they charged 50 for parking today because of the college game and run 0 tournaments right now I'd say that's a smash.

Also at the time of this post. Shoe is just 3 tables away from full capacity.

--parking was pretty easy
--didn't experience any 'comedy of errors'
--game was pretty loose imo!!

I keep hearing this, so maybe I was just more unlucky than I thought. It really did feel a long way from being tolerable for me, and I'm a patient person. Organization, understanding of their own rules, list/game movement, cage slow with chips just to name a few. All my 2/5 tbls + the couple 1/3's I sat in were all much tighter and boring than the games I'm used to at MD Live.

If I have a better experience when I go back I'll post about it.

Without the 400% markup on beverages, how would casinos make money?

It's a Mississippi straddle. You can straddle up to 5x the blinds.

If by 'dealer' you mean the button, the button can certainly straddle, and has first preference. Only the blinds cannot straddle.

And by first preference I mean if MP straddles for 5x, and then the button straddles for 2x, the straddle is 2x and the MP has to pull back his straddle.

Saw the room had flyers with the October tournament schedule. Took one to report back - daily Sunday - Friday (none on Saturdays). All start at 11 am, have 2 hour late reg and reentries. $120 and $150 have $5000 guarantees and the $240 games have $10,000 guarantees. Sunday - $240 black chip bounty, 12500 units, 30 min. Monday - $120 three blind structure, 10,000 and 20 min. Tuesday - $150, 10,000, 20. Wednesday - $120 multi tier turbo, 10,000, 10/20/30 min, Thursday - $150 double green chip bounty, 10,000, 20. Friday - $240 survivor, 12500, 30.

Assuming black chip is $100 and double green chip is $50. Anthony or others who know for sure can verify.

No details given on set up of the triple blinds - small, big, bigger or 3 equal or something else? Any one play these elsewhere?

No details on the house rake/fee either.

Welcome addition to the regions poker tournament offerings. Mix of traditional and new type of tournaments should stir competition among the rooms. Look forward to seeing how this room evolves its offerings - more per day, buyins, non-NLHE, specials, WSOPc and sats.

25 tier credits for $1/3 was verified by bmoreanthony. I think its 37 for 2/5. Lower amounts in other locations are typically for 1/2 not 1/3.

So 4h of play for free parking seems pretty reasonable imo. (If you can find parking at all)

This might be a small nitpicking sort of comaplaint, but the cashiers at the poker cage seem fond of taking whatever chips I put on the counter, pulling them down to their counter, and then counting them while they are still far enough forward that they are visually obscured by the drop off between the two counter levels. I think that they should make sure that the chips are visible to guests throughout the process. Just less potential for things to go awry.

In Vegas, diamonds and up get free red bull...anyone verify? Also even though alcohol is free there, they also get top shelf vs rail in their drinks...wonder if any of that applies here since alcohol can't be free.

I just had AK vs AQ on an A 5 8 5 8 board and the dealer ruled it a chop. What a mess

+1

I don't think this is a small nitpick by any means. There's a reason most cages at most casinos are trained to stack and count chips on the counter. When this happened to my on opening night I just asked her to put the rack and chips on the counter and count it where it's visible to me. That way any mistakes can be easily corrected instead of being he said/she said. Much less headache

In other news, play is delightfully awful. And Horseshoe offering 1-3 instead of 1-2 as its lowest limit is excellent

Every little incident is going to be widely publicized, because of where it is.
