I saw Norman Chad there last night. He was playing the night tourney, came over to my table(20/40 mixed) and chatted with the regs there. He wasn't nearly as annoying as he is on TV but he was only there 5 minutes so maybe that had something to do with it.

Never been here but am staying about 2 miles away next week and would like to check it out. What/how many games do they usually get above 4-8? How big is the place?

These days, HPC usually has an 8-16 1/2 kill game going, sometimes 2, every night. 20-40 has been hit and miss. Nothing higher.

In NL, they have short buy-in $100, $200, and $300 games, and 100bb $500 game always going. Most nights there's a 5/10 no cap game.

That's cool, I usually play 8/16. I will probably check it out tomorrow night.

Absolutely the worst room I have been to in years. Staff doesn't handle the tables with skill, players are allowed to talk on cell while in hand, friends get up and converse while (1) is still in hand, and players take turns berating each other. The Floor has no control over loud and obnoxious players - and I'll stay away from this room while in LA.

I spend alot of time traveling and spend alot of my free time in poker rooms (I would call myself a solid player - resume, 2 out of 4 WSOP min cashes, play 1/2NL, 2/4L, 2/5NL but mostly stick to tourneys - +30K in very part time earnings and call Foxwoods my home room)

I arrived at 9pm on a Wednesday, and put my name on the board for 100, 200 max games - just wasting time before an early AM flight out of LAX. Tourneys were not available.

First I was seated at a 100 max, was asked if I wanted to post - and as I was UTG+1, I declined and wanted to wait for the button to pass. I was immediately berated by UTG+2 for waiting. Ignoring my new friend, who was pulling another hundred out and rebuying and seemed to be on tilt - I waited for the button. I played two hands and was told the 200max was available.

I was moved to a table with 6 players - played 4 hands at the new table - and then the table broke up. (WTF?)

I was then moved to another max 100 table (for an easterner, this 100 or 200 max stuff sucks - I really like the 300 max 1/2 or better at FXW). I sat down and was dealt AAcs UTG (this time I posted) - made it 12 to go, and got 6 callers. Flopped the set - checked, and then checks all around! K hits, I bet 30 - I get 4 callers! Another K hits - I bet all in - I get 3 callers and scoop the pot.

BB starts to needle me about my play (slow rolling) - I respond that I just played the hand in a ABC manner - and then ask if he was in the hand (he wasn't). Now I can't really understand every other word - but I believe he calls me a fing ***hole - but i let it go.

2 hands later, my new friend bets 12 - I flat with J/10s as the SB, BB flats as well. I flop 2 pair (I know - got hit by the deck until last hand - more later) - my friend bets 100! Now with only a 2 on the board, I figure really big pair. I call, BB gets out of the way. 10 hits the board - my mumbling friend says what I hear as 104 but only pushed in $64 (in a rack - they only use 100 or 1 chips). I hestitate (obviously he's shooting an angle) - ask him was it $64 or $104 - he stares at me. I ask the dealer to have him push all of the bet in and the dealer asks him how much he bet!!!!!! WTF? I say - he said $104 - Other players at the table back me up - and my new friend says he said $64. I ask for the floor - and now there is a full blown conversation - made worse by the act the dealer wasn't paying complete attention as he was discussing an inane topic with seat 10. Net of it all - he's got to put in the $104 - I show boat - he goes nuts.

Fast forward about an hour and I'd say 3 other agruments - the mumbling nut job has been trying to bully everyone - and he gets into another confrontation with seat 8/9/10 (yup all three and the game degrades into a shouting match) net of it all is he then calls all three beaners (which I guess is a slur for mexicans - and all don't appear mexican), asks for the floor to discuss the confrontation, leaves the table but decides to discuss his concerns standing behind seat 3 - so the game has grinded to a halt. For the next 15mins we play 2 hands...I decide to leave but not before losing 100 on Q2 from the BB, flop two pair, I check, UTG checks and UTG goes all in with 100 (he just sat down) - I respond by calling, UTG folds Q2(!) and my opponent has AA! Board pairs 4's I lose. Oh well - at least it was interesting!

No, there is a 2/5 and that game is $200 max buy-in that you can rebuy up to $300 after you go below $100. Then in the "high limit" section there is a 5/5(I think, might be 2/5 also) game that has a $500-1k buy-in I think. Haven't played that game so maybe someone else can confirm.

Wow - no posts on this thread for over 9 months. I'll be flying in to LAX next week for work and am trying to determine my schedule depending on how much poker I will get a chance to play.

How's the room Monday-Wednesday night? What are the buy-ins now? I think it's quick taxi ride from the airport - right?

Yea, it's a 5 to 10 minute drive straight down Century Blvd. depending upon how many green lights the cab driver makes. Don't expect much those nights of the week as the recession has hit the player pool hard. Oh yea, you might want to read this :

The Race Track is gone and the rest of the casino is under new management if you believe the billboards.

Has anyone played here lately, is it any better?

Played there Saturday for the first time since the track closed. It's the exact same group of dealers and floor men, game and action seemed pretty much the same.

$5/5 usually have 3 games going, 5/10 runs sporadically. Floor staff highly incompetent, rude cashiers and worst valets in all of so cal.

I never have to set foot in this place again. A complete relief.

Wife and I were in town for a graduation, a trip to Santa Anita, the Kings game and to see friends. We stay with my Pa-in-law, who lives pretty close to Hollywood Park. In order to tune up for playing the Santa Anita card on Saturday, I looked over a few races on Fridays card. I settled in on playing the first four races at SA. With about two hours to kill, I decided to actually go to HP and play the races at their simo, and play a little poker at the same. Its been a while, but it was daytime, I'm not planning to eat anything, and she didn't want to come, and it less than 10 minutes away. Four reasons to keep it local.

"Six Bucks"......was the reply when I asked how much to get in to merely make a few bets on SA. "really" was my one word reply before I turned and kept going to the poker room. I checked the other, smaller room near the poker area, and it was the same. Now, I intend to bet maybe about $60 total on these races. Doing the math, I recognized that I need to cash for $72.00 just to break even if I play here, since I won't be here for all the races. Pass is my only out here. ( I do have a twinspires account, and obviously used it)

I did play poker for about an hour, and did talk to the floor about it. He offered to actually place the bets for me, but I told him that then I would have to come back tomorrow to cash them in, etc. Thanks but no thanks. He muttered something about having a Bet-runner, but the room let her/him go. Even another guy at the table would have placed them for me.

You get the feeling that the folks at the door let their friends in, and thats fine, but an out-of-towner really gets no help here. Next time, yep, Commerce Casino and their "no admission simocast center"

Have been going quite a bit since the new ownership. Things have gotten better much better and now probably has one of the best tourney deals in town. Just left tonight and wanted to share this promo.
You do not have to be there to win! It's going for next week and is open to anyone over 21 in Southern Cal!
It's on the Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/playhpc
or just text HPC to 24587 for a shot at $500. They are probably looking to make a texting database, but who cares its $500 it takes 1 min and easy to block if they start spamming!
