Ok I'm definitely heading up to HP right after work on 12/29. Anyone want to get O8 going? Say 4-8 limit?

I haven't played here is several months. Does anyone know if the room has gotten much better. Last time I played, the rulings were very inconsistent and some of the dealers where still pretty slow.

Did they get any more tables? Did they start tourneys yet? I'm going to check it out first week of January.

I went back to HC@PN today for the first time since the 'test' day. I had a couple hours free and decided to check it out.

I got there around 1 PM and was immediately greeted at the desk and placed on a list. I was third on the list and there were probably 6-7 tables of 1/2 NL running. The lady who assisted me (dealer uniform, not a floor) asked if I'd like to get a text message on my cell when I was up and I took her up on it.

Five minutes later I heard my name called and immediately got the text message as well.

They sold me chips at the desk and guided me to my seat quickly.

I had a young guy dealing who, for the two hours I was there:
  • never made a dealing error
  • called out action and straddles clearly and accurately
  • was polite and kept the game moving

Never had any problem that needed the attention of a floor and the floors also acted as chip runners and handled the transactions efficiently with the dealer announcing player was playing $XXX behind. Drink service was frequent and reasonably fast.

The table was a typical soft 1/2 game with the expected number of calling stations and players trying to take down pots with 2nd or 3rd pair. I left up $100 after the two hours just playing ABC poker.

The point of this oh-so-boring trip report is the only thing I encountered that I didn't like was the $6 rake. To read some of the posts on here you would think the place was nothing but problem after problem.

I did see a sign stating tournaments were starting Jan 10th. I BELIEVE it was $60+$15 with an optional $5 dealer add-on. For some reason I didn't stop to take better notice of the details.

EDIT: Besides the 1/2 NL tables they had one 3/6 LHE table going and interests list for 5/10 NL and 1/2 PLO, which I never heard called.

They also had a 2/5 game going. I played in it from around Noon until 4:45ish.

Also, I believe they were getting the 1/2 O8 game going just as I was leaving.

Must have not noticed the 2/5.

Did you get a better look at the tournament sign than I did?

What 1/2 NL Table were you on?

PLO8 ran for a few hours, I was tempted to play, but wussed out.

Good action for the holiday. Definately have to come back on more holidays for the loose players.

That's the problem with some rooms. You can have 5 great experiences but then a bad floor decision ruins your entire perception of the room because it costs you $100 or more.

Anyway, it seems like the room is moving in the right direction. I am sure the $6 rake will never change since they still have tables running. I'm glad to see that the txt messaging system is working which is awesome for when they have lists of 30+. Not sure if they still have this but they did when they were opening up.

It seems like you got a good dealer. That is definitely a plus. One thing that confuses me is why they don't switch up dealers every 30 minutes or even once an hour. You could have the same dealer for 5 hours sometimes which is horrible if you get the slow guy. Plus, I like mixing up my luck with different dealers. (I know, I know, there is no luck, but that's just what I like.)

I was there on Wed night. Played 3/6 limit till they opened the 1/2 PLO8 at about 9 - maybe later. Players didn't seem that great. I was building my stack up slowly till it just got to late. There was one multiplayer pot that someone won that had to be well over $500. I forget exactly had the hand played out but the guy hit quad 5's then scooped the entire pot when an ace hit on the river. He even raised pre-flop from the SB (I think) with 5-5-3-4.

I never saw a sign for tournies. Any other updates?

Okay so I checked the website. They are starting MTT's on the 10th. $65 +$15 + 5 for 2000 more Dealer add on chips. Plus they're having PLO MTT's on Friday. For now they start at noon, Mon - Fri. Evening MTT's start on the 19th. Finally!

Where will the tourneys be held? It's a 16 table room, what will they do if it would get busy? There not stopping cash play for tournaments! Just wondering if anything was in place for tourneys with more than 40 runners.

NO idea. I doubt it's that busy at noon. The question is the evening MTT's. Maybe thats also why I saw no mention of weekend MTT's.

Unless what?

So any guess on how these MTT's will be?

I also have another question about the $5 dealer add on chips. I'm new to casino MTT's obviously. Is that the tip for the dealers? And isn't $65 an odd amount to start out with? Why Not $50 + $10 or $15. I wish they would have added SNG's.

MTT structure....unknown? Haven't talked to a dealer yet who knew.

The $5 dealer add on is for tips to dealers. Delaware park runs theirs this way.

I agree on the hope SNG's come soon.

My fear going in Friday will be dealers and or players not being able to track the pot and betting being a nightmare. As mentioned in my earlier posts I've not had the best of dealers, and think PLO is going to be interesting! I'm hoping for a great tournament with a turnout more than 20. We will see.

When I was there the one night playing Pot Limit O8 the floor came over for some reason and made a statement about the dealers were responsible for tracking the pot for pot limit games but not during NL. would this apply to tournies? I will say the dealer for that game was pretty good. Kept track of the pot and from I saw never made a mistake with reading hands at theriver.

Is this in reference to a player asking how big the pot is? In NL dealers can't answer on size of pot, but in Pot Limit it can be stated by a dealer due to the nature of the game.

Maybe floor said it weird, but I'd assume this is what they meant.

My optimisim...if there are 20-30 players, then all thats really needed is 4 good dealers for the whole thing. Theres got to be a solid handful that have been trained and prepped extra for this right? Right?

Ok maybe it'll be a laughable donkament. Either way it'll be entertaining.

so, who is the brain surgeon who decided that friday would be the ideal day to have the Omaha tourney? my god, what an awful decision. That should be on a Monday or Tuesday, not friday. what a really dumb decision. Friday is the day you would get the most people coming for an afternoon tourney. so so so stupid.

Why is this dumb? The only reason to have tourneys is to promote the poker room. So, mon-Thurs they have hold-'em which anyone with an IQ above nail polish can run in. Then on Fridays have Omaha so that they can build more interest in the cash game that's been spread recently.

If HCPN is the only place you play than yes, this is an awful day to not have a holdem tourney. But since other area casinos only run holdem tourneys, Friday suits me just fine. and as above post points out, this could have me staying to play cash games in a room I was avoiding.

The only time they get any Omaha cash game going is a weekend or holiday. Therefore, in my mind it does make sense to have the Omaha tournament on a weekend. This will make it much easier to get an Omaha cash game going.

As they have only really been having success getting an O8 game going recently, I'm hoping that the tournament will help to potentially get a straight pot limit game (hi) going.
