It is my understanding that straddles are only allowed UTG.

Thanks to Klez, HB, etc. for providing consistent and relevant information through the growing pains of CTR. Please continue to keep us informed of updates as you hear them.

Mississippi straddles, etc. are NOT allowed (per room manager last Saturday). Only straddle (to any amount) from UTG.

Considering all the talk of rake itt, I thought it appropriate to link to this classic story of rake in L.A.:

Enjoy.

the funny thing is, i'm from LA and am use to playing w/ that type of rake.... This said, I am getting use to having a time rake over the last few days. As long as i'm not playing the 1-2 i've become alright with it.

But yea, nothing like being in LA and playing at a 2-3 game and winning a pot of $1 somehow, lol

I know what slow play means (in the hand and betting strategy). I used the wrong term. What I meant was waiting around for good cards (folding most hands).

Sorry for my strong opinions about the rake issue. It just really didn't sink in until I thought about it last night.

All is well, and I'm looking forward to playing. C'Town poker is still ultimately cheaper than Borgata Poker simply because the drive and tolls to AC.

Do you know what time pots are? Because if you do, I'm surprised you don't agree with me, and you seem to be disagreeing with me.

i wouldnt mind starting a culture of time pots.

however the slight problem arises with 1-2, you dont really want to take $60 from the next +$60 pot.

Maybe 4 timepots in a row take 15 from any pot thats above $50?

i dont know.

$20 from 3 pots over $70 might work. From a LHE perspective, at 10/20 at Borgata it's $25 or so from first two pots over $120. I don't play NL so can't really say what a reasonable time pot size would be. But time pots absolutely favor tighter players. I think I played for 6 hours once and never paid time. And if you are paying time it's because you won a pot which isn't horrible.

The room is an oblong space beneath the grandstand of the race track. It is beige and tiled like a school cafeteria. Aside from the black curtain in one corner from behind which the drinks arrive, the only decoration in the room is the carpeted platform upon which the tables sit. The remnants of other uses are evident.

There is a row of flat panel televisions running down the center of the room, and between the two rows of tables. If you are sitting in the center of the room (seats 1-4 on one side, or seats 7-10 on the other side), your back will be toward the televisions.

The focus thus far has been on making the room functional, and to get poker up and running as quickly as possible, not on creating ambiance. To the extent that we are now playing poker in C-Town—albeit on a limited basis—they have succeeded. The rest will come.

The clientele that I have spoken to have all been local, if one defines local as anyone who deems it worth their while to drive from wherever they are to C-Town for an evening of poker. This encompasses an area including southern PA, western & suburban MD, northern VA, and of course, WVA.

That rake has to make the 1/2 game pretty much unbeatable. Assuming 25 hands/hour, you will be paying $48 in rake per 100 hands, which means you have to beat the game for 12 ptbb/100 just to break even. Does anyone think this is even in the ballpark of reasonable?

It says on that site that sign-ups begin one hour before poker room opens. So 2pm.

one thing is for certain out of all of this - they at least keep their site up to date.

that's huge in my eyes, especially for someone who just got these games. a lot of big casinos don't even have this amount of info on their sites, or keep it up to date.

however, i've always wondered why they didn't have a web-based list system. seems so simple to me.

So does this mean they aren't planning on going 24/7 anytime soon?

I can think of a couple reasons why.

(1) Security. If there's any sort of interaction allowed, which I think would be the only advantage of a web-based system (i.e., signing up for the list via WEP-enabled phone or internet or submitting queries to a database to see what your chances are of a particular game running on a particular night are based on past lists), I'm pretty sure there would be a way to compromise the security of the system and mess with the lists.

(2) Maintenance. It's just one more thing that could break and would require resources to fix/upkeep. Even the Borgata, who had the foresight to post live game updates on the web, hasn't ironed out the wrinkles with that application and it's been about six months since it went live. So it can't be THAT simple.

But what would be the advantages that would make it worth CTR&S's time and money to implement it? Who knows, maybe someday someone that has some authority @ CTR&S will read the thread and your reasoning and implement it.

my guess is that the only hold up now from going 24-7-all-27 is staffing, thats why they can only open up X tables for Y hours a day.

and the staffing is all about their pool of dealers who have been licensed by WVA lottery.

i think its all on WVA lottery.

You're welcome. There have been several others who contributed, so share the thanks around. Good luck with your new job. Be warned, if you try to speak on behalf of the room, someone on here with a funny colored name will likely shut you down as trying to portray yourself as an unapproved rep. Once the insanity of the openings weeks calms down, I'd love to see Randy or a designated hitter join 2+2 as the official CTown rep.

I think I'm heading up tomorrow after work. I'm going to try and call ahead for seating. See folks there.

All good points, Rapini.

But if they are going to continue with the part time hours for much longer, they need to find a better solution for getting on the list for games.

That could be web based (though I don't expect them to create something like this as a short term solution).

It could be allowing people to phone in to the poker room to get on the list.

Or perhaps a player's card swipe system like they have at the Taj. One would still need to go to the poker room to get on a list, but wouldn't have to stand in line for 40-60 minutes. I use the one at the Taj when I'm up there anytime there's a line at the desk. (For me, a line means one person.)

I expect it to be very busy this weekend.

But if they can get some more tables opened up, along with the longer hours, hopefully those that can't get there two hours before opening can have a better shot at getting a seat in a reasonable amount of time.

I don't think it'd be good right now. You'd have guys signing up days in advance
