That's hard to predict, but I'll be there and I'm good for at least 5 or 6 buy-ins.

What time tomorrow is this tourney? If it's an afternoon tourney, are they still having their usual Friday 7 PM tourney?

It is SATURDAY, noon, not tomorrow.

I haven't been able to put in much time at mdl 2/2, but I can tell you about ct's.

It typically gets off the ground 3-5 times a week in the later hours of the afternoon or early evening. They start with 5 usually and sometimes never get a full ring going. I don't usually get there until late in the evening, but what I've seen of it the table tends to stay together all the way down to 3-4 players. It's not a bad beat eligible game, so again, I only play on the weekends due to the rakeback promo from acquiring hours. I think the players are generally looser at mdl, but I don't have much play to compare to in the plo department. Someone told me the plo game was better here, and they drove farther for it. Take that with a grain of salt. Hope that helps.

10% chip bonus on the $560 if you register early. Only need to do so 15 minutes before but must actually be at the cashier to qualify. If you are on line 15 minutes before and get to the cashier 10 minutes before I do not believe you are eligible.

Looks like a great structure.

I think it's only 1,000 rather than 10 %

Someone told me 10%, but can't find anything on website. I do know we get something at least.

Free spew is free spew. I plan on using the extra chips to put a nasty beat on someone.

Thumbs up to all the improvements the new poker room manager has made. He's actually listening to suggestions and doing what he can to implement them.

For those of you who gave up because of old regime, I encourage you to at least speak with room rep (I'm assuming I can't use his name here?) and see if he is receptive.

Games have also been picking up lately.

Got a good feeling about 5/10 going off tomorrow as well, at least based on an unofficial roll call during today's game.

They still can't do comps (not a poker room decision and it has been fought for), but other things they can do they are doing. (Tourney players may notice better structures, better managed waitlists, more attentive staff, etc.)

Obviously I'm not an employee and I had been very critical of old management both on these boards and in person. FWIW, I'm a believer.

I doubt the room will ever be what it once was in terms of volume, but for those with middle distant commutes who wrote Ctown off as dead, u may want to give it a shot again.

And if you are a good player, please ignore this post.

You're allowed to use the room rep's name once he contacts Bobo Fett to get registered for the site and made an authorized rep.

Good to hear that they've gotten new people in there. I remember how absurd it was when old management would refuse to start a 1/2 or 2/2 PLO game despite overwhelming demand.

I live in DC so I can't imagine circumstances under which I'd spend an extra hour round-trip in a car to go to CT over MDL, especially given how much better the variety of games is at MDL. I think the only way for CT to become relevant to the DC market again is to have some crazy-good promotions and/or comps, but you said definitively in your post that comps aren't a decision the poker room can make and they're not available to them.

Proximity is probably the main factor in most people's choice of poker rooms. Charles Town is 38 miles closer to me than MD Live (and on roads that are less congested), so that's where I'll be going. Promotions and comps aren't enough to make the extra hour and a half (round trip) worth it to me, even though I think MD Live is a fine place to play (I've made the trip 3 times).

Definitely agree. MGM Nat'l Harbor and Horseshoe B'more will chop off some of MDL's market share and I doubt either of those places will affect the player pool at CT much. (Well, maybe MGM a little.) I'll likely split time between MDL and MGM at that point because they'll be pretty much equidistant from me when factoring in traffic.

from my house:
CT is 45min each way
md live is 1hr each way

currently driving an additional 30min round trip for md live's 2/2 plo.

if things pick up for 2/2 plo at ct, I might start going there.
currently I view the food comps at md live as useless since food quality has gone way downhill since self-comps were introduced in feb.

on the other hand, a new restaurant is opening up on june 10, and prime rib is offering $49 3 course specials during weekdays for the summer.

ahh.. promo... that explains why there's no tables of 2/2 plo at 5:30pm according to Bravo.
(and only 7 tables total.. 6 1/2 and 1 2/5
far, far, far cry from the old days when it was a monopoly.)

that promo ends 6/1. hopefully 2/2 picks up during the weekday

Friend was there earlier tonight. 8 on the wait list for a 3rd 2/5 game. Couldn't start the game due to not having enough dealers.

Same nonsense.

Place is PACKED tonight. 5 2/5 tables. On one with well over 12k on table, playing absolutely insane.

Looks like a decent waitlist, too. Hope it's a sign if things to come.

I got there around 9:20PM Saturday and had to wait almost 3 hours to play PLO. The game was a combination of established regulars who I've seen at 5/5 PLO and some people who were there just to have a good time and didn't really understand the game. I'm not sure I understand calling it 'better' than MDL, though. At MDL, there are 2/2 grinders, but its not the same as the players I have seen at C'town who used to grind 5/5 and sometimes still got to MDL to play 5/5. On the other hand, there are more people at C'town that either don't understand the game or just don't care. This dynamic just makes the game different. I'm not sure its better or worse, and certainly not something that would make me drive 90 minutes out of my way.

However, I definitely agree that management is improved. Everyone is friendly and open to questions and comments, where before some of the exact same staff were pretty sullen. The room just has a better feel to it and it does seem to get busy on the weekends. I'll continue to go to C'town when I'm late or traffic is miserable to MDL, but I'll go to MDL other times for the game variety and the much shorter wait for 2/2.

I think you need to arrive a little earlier. Last night, a giant fish got up just before you sat down.
