Not bad at all I thought...I arrived at 6pm Sunday night, and was sitting down and playing 1/2 NL by 7:30pm.

I'm not positive cause I wasn't really paying much attention, but by 8:30pm I'm guessing there was only 30min wait max for 1/2 NL and by 9:30-10pm <10minutes.

This was my 3rd time playing at CT so far and the dealers are getting much better, and at least at my table, the quality of the players were much better.

It was an interesting night for me...My first two hands dealt were KK and AK, and after two hands I had lost my $300 buy-in. My KK was beat by Q9 (little annoying Mr. Q9 called my $15 pre-flop raise) I lost $200 on that one...Then I went a little tilt, Mr. Q9 re-raised somebody pre-flop and I pushed my remaining $100 all-in with AK...Mr. Q9 called and beat me with his QQ. (yeah, probably an idiot play on my part)

Well, I realized I needed to re-focus and not go full tilt, I re-bought in for $300 and was able cash out for $700 three hours later for a net gain of $100.

I consider myself really only an average player at best, and after 3 sessions of 4 hours each I'm up $850 at CT. I just really enjoy live poker, so as long as I can at least beat the rake, I'll keep coming to CT at least 2-3 times a month.

The lines were normal at the start of yesterday (sunday).

but i noticed for a weekend day the crowds were smaller by the night. There was open seating on the O/8B at around 10pm. And there were only a few people walking around the waiting room at that time.

Now there was a huge storm in the area knocking out power for a lot of people and making driving a B, so maybe thats why it was a tad lighter yesterday.

i also think even the hardcore degens like me are just getting sick of the waits... its been going on for almost a month now.

If this information helps - Last week, I arrived at the room around 12:30 AM Wednesday morning and only had a 10 minute wait. There were only 3 people on the list for 1/2NL ahead of me.

I left the tables at 3:30 AM and stood in line at the cage for 15 - 20 minutes to cash out. The line at the cage maintained about the same wait time from 3:30 until 3:50 AM.

Ok, I am going to start off by saying that I am sorry for asking this type of question here, but I am looking to have a little better understanding.

I am planning on heading up to Hollywood this Saturday with a buddy of mine and our wives. The women will be going off to play slots and we are planning on hitting the poker room.

Our plan is to arriove at the casino around 2pm. Around how far back should we expect to be in the line to sign up and roughly (best guess here) how long should we expect to wait for a 1-2 table?

Thanks and again, sorry to be asking this.

If you can, get there by 1pm. Then you MAY get in on the first seating at 3. If you arrive at 2 you will be 50-100 deep on the wait list if you are set on 1-2. If you are willing to play 2-5, you might be able to still stand a chance at first seating. There is always a chance the lines may be smaller than the last couple of weeks, but I doubt it.
Last week I arrived at 1:00 and was about 40th on the wait list for 1-2, but I sat at the second 2-5 table. Hope this helps and gl.

I think we need a Sticky on what time to get up to H@CT and get a seat on any particular night. This seems to be a commonly asked question since the room opened.

Are there 9 or 10 players to a table? If it's 10 how does it affect the game?

I want to head over to CT this weekend, but I've never sat at a 10 person cash table and fear it would screw me up until I studied 10max hand ranges.

As best I can tell from reading the thread on a daily basis, if you want to get seated in 1-2 NL from the start, your best bet is to be at Charles Town no later than 6:30 Monday/Thursday and 1 Friday/Sunday.

There's little difference between 9 & 10 handed games, all else being equal.

i believe the general consensus is that you should arrive about 2 hours in advance if you plan on being seated in the first group

anyone played the 5/10nl games at charles town to be able to comment on how the play is? I was thinking that some people who don't want to wait for the 2/5 game might just hop in the 5/10nl game instead

you are correct that players are signing up for multiple games and from what i understand, the 5/10nl games have quite a few $300-500 starting stacks which is an obvious indicator that there are some under-rolled/shot-takers and/or fish in these games.

going to HC@CT for the first time either tomorrow or friday if any 2+2ers are gonna be there

Paid my first visit Saturday as well after following this thread (and its predecessor) from the start. The good info here helped me go in prepared, but there is no substitute for experiencing a situation for yourself. I'll try to keep this to either new information or details specific to Saturday:

- Arrived at 1pm on the nose after a 1:30 drive from the District. The line was about 20 deep. What I did not realize at that time is I was standing in a secondary line. They had us at the main level of the casino, outside the door to go upstairs. This being my first trip, I figured this was *the* line. Wrong. At 1:35 they let us up and tacked us on to the back of the main line – so rather than 20 deep, I was around 140th. The way they tacked us on upstairs, we wrapped around well into the racing grandstand area.
- Both in the downstairs line and in the secondary line upstairs, people were smoking while in line. I had folks on either side of me chain smoking for 1.5 hours. This was just brutal. I suppose it was technically legit given the specific areas we were standing were not the official poker room. And I can’t begrudge the smokers for taking advantage. But considering we were all in line to go play in a non-smoking room, I think this is something management should consider reviewing.
- Got on the list for 2/5 at 2:30. I was in the first group of 30 for that game so was guaranteed a seat in the first wave (3 tables to be opened).
- It does take a while for that first wave to get fully seated. I wasn’t dealt a hand until 3:40.
- The whole post-signup waiting situation really is a mess. There is no room or facilities to accommodate everyone. People were milling around – nowhere to sit and nowhere to go because you need to be there to hear your name called. It was DMV-esque. The grandstand area would've been a fine option to sit and wait, but it was like a scene from Mad Men in there with all the smoking. IMO they need to come up with something in the way of a decent waiting area if they're striving for a positive customer experience in this room. Even after they go 24/7, there will still be a good number of folks waiting. The current setup is not an appealing way to start your visit.
- Competition was fine. No great players but no real fish either. I only saw a handful of head-scratching plays all night at this table.
- Speed of play and dealers were fine. A couple dealers admitted to being new and nervous, but they did just fine. The entire staff was friendly and professional.
- I wanted to get home by 11:30 due to plans Sunday morning. This meant bailing around 9:30. I took a look at the NL board as I walked out: 7 tables of 1/2 with 190 (!) on the list. 3 tables of 2/5 with 111 on the list. 2 tables of 5/10 with 40 on the list. I would estimate we turned over maybe 2 guys/hour at my table. So, assuming that as an average across three tables, you're turning over 6 seats/hour at Saturday 2/5. So yes, we have a major supply/demand issue here.

Bottom line, this was < 6 hours of play for a 12 hour time investment (round trip) and a good deal of hassle. That's a tough equation to swallow. I will love this room if/when it reaches a stage where one can show up at any time and be playing within 30 minutes, or at least find a decent waiting area to sit and watch a ballgame or read a magazine. Tough for me to imagine going back until we get there. Just one guy's point of view.
I see things have not changed a bit over 3 weeks I went to DP sat and it was a much better time, only a 30min wait at peak time sat night and even thou its about 1.45 mins from DC i will make that trip until CT gets it act together
