Man this place sounds really bad. I have a friend who keeps trying to get me to go up there with him claiming the place is full of fish but I see no reason as FW/MS are only 1.5hrs away. Daryn, sounds like we are both in similar spots. I live a couple miles from Rockingham and won't set foot in the place. $6 rake, tipping dealers, and paying for drinks? Sounds like it would be hard to beat.

Im going to have 2/3 long sessions there as I'm on vacation and I've seen the games as squishy historically: Bring some Gatorade and meals, leave em in my car and just hangout there.

If any of you all know the best times I should be going in, feel free to drop some knowledge.

I have all day tonight and tomorrow, and I might head up there. That promo doesn't start 'till Tuesday but I'm pressed for time as always. Might just play ss'd at $5 to compensate (if they even have a game running) for that stupid ****ing rake.

sofocused, nfw would i head up there were I you. It's not even debatable. I have to consider it because it saves me an hour on each end over FW/MS (and I just got back from MA yesterday ).

If I do, I will throw up a trip report (or at the very least, comment in this thread) in B&M very soon.

"Join us every Sunday & Monday during October in the Poker Room for a reduced Poker Rake of $4!"

That's from their site, am I missing something here?? You said you were going in on Tuesday, why?

Huh? I did? I said the program starts Tuesday (first day of October, I'll call tomorrow if this promo is on I will definitely consider here over FW).

More importantly - how's the action up there?

Guys, best action to play is Tuesday during the day for $2/5 and Thursday all day/night for any game. Don't waste your time on Wednesdays, place is DEAD.

ZERO point in going there unless they are running a promotion, action at FW/MS is still plenty juicy at low limits and a $6 rake is ****ing stupid.

I went to FW Monday for the above reason (and took down a big score). Met up with some nice girls from Maine who frequent the place, they said the players are bad but that there are only 5 tables total??? Yeesh.

I'll stop asking questions about the place and just hit it up sometime this month, got people to visit up there anyway. I do appreciate the info about Tuesdays and Thursdays though.

yeah it's kinda sad. i mean i live 5 minutes from the place. i thought it would be great but i simply cannot beat the game! now again like i said before, maybe i just suck.. but i really don't think so. i never really played cash NL but i know what i'm doing enough that i should be beating this game. the play is insanely bad. but yeah i'm essentially breakeven after 150-200 hours. i'm moving back south at the end of october anyway.

i have dabbled in 2/5 and made money, small sample though. but plenty of bad play there as well.

Any of you guys play some of the private 1/1, 1/2 or 2/5 games in Portland?

I'd like to know if its worth it to go up north to grind or whether staying in Portland is better.

Ran miserable bad, good lord:

1/2
Get it all in with set on flop, dude rivers straight
Get it all in with set on turn, dude rivers flush.

2/5
Flopped FullHouse, call off stack (guy flopped 4 of a kind)

I think the games are beatable, and I think there are lots of fish. Value bet correctly and prepare for some variance because the players will chase cards a lot here.

The game is beatable. Granted, there are some adjustments that must be made in order to crush the game. I am one of a few players that I know have done extremely well there. Variance will occur and you will have your days where nothing goes right because fish catch their cards. However, for strong players this is +EV game hands down.

I live 15 min from here which is why I play here. If I lived 90 min from Foxwoods/ MS I would 100% play there.

I'll shoot you a pm when I head up there; would be nice to know who the other 2+2ers are. Might go next Tuesday. The aforementioned girls said the exact same thing and promo's running...

You mentioned Tues and Thurs. How is Fri - Sun action?

Apologies for not using multi-quote, all.

Ahhh, you never told me you never played NL. There are obviously some adjustments to make vs. limit, but I still think it's just variance. Every report I've heard about the place is that the place is a super-fish pool. Calling stations and laggy fish = variance.

Planning on making the trip up from Portland I'm the next week. Any updates on the current climate of the games? Also wonderimg what would be the best day to play? I'm assuming that Thursday the 26th should yield some good games.

I would expect small stacks, super fast levels, and rapidly increasing blinds.......but would be happy to be proven wrong

They don't have enough competition to offer good tourneys IMHO.....but we will see.

How is the Poker Action up here on the weekends ? Thurs/Fri/Sat/Sun ?

I have a cabin on Moosehead Lake, about an hour or so north of Bangor.......last summer drove daily from Greenville to the Hospital in Bangor to visit a family member....really wanted to check out the action.

Was a nice drive to/from Bangor....was thinking of spending a couple weeks up there just hanging at the lake Mon-Thurs and playing poker in Bangor Thurs-Sun

Worth it ?

In reference to the tournaments. Their first MTT is going to be in March 2nd (Sunday). Sounds like it is going to be a 40 person tourney, buyin range somewhere between $50-$75, 20-25 min blinds. Paying out the top 3-4. They want to try some tournaments (as players have urged them to do so). They do understand that this one (and the first few) will have some hiccups but they would like to see how it runs, and what they do better for future ones, etc. Floor has mentioned the possibility of some deeper stacked tournaments and bounty tournaments in the future (depending on how well they go and popularity).

Answering ZenForest, the occasional trip would be worth it. I really cannot speak to the weekend grind, but Thursday is the best day to play. The room regularly runs a semi-private 5/10 game, 2 1/2 tables and usually a 2/5 table. They run a $50 high hand promotion for every hour, which I guess brings in the crowd. If you hit it right, next month some of weekends should be extra juicy due to the high school basketball tournament which will be taking place across the street at the new arena. I figure due to the newness of the arena, attendance numbers for games should be up, as will be amount of easy money in the poker room (so I hope).

Zen, I will try to get this posted for you. I'm also going to lobby the casino to get this info put up on website. One would think that'd be a standard practice. As the room only has 4 tables the max entry will be 40. More info to come...
