I have to inform everyone of my recent experience at Hialeah Race Track's Poker room. I was there a little less than a week ago and I witnessed the most embarrassing poker experience in my 30 years plus playing the game.

I was seated at a table playing 1/2 No Limit when i began to hear yelling and foul language at the next table over. I got up to use the restroom and walked by the table to see 8 players stand up from the table as they continued to harass a player sitting that was left alone by these players because he complained that they were speaking Spanish at the table during hands . A floor person came over to the table to see what was the problem as one of the players shouted out " you need to learn Spanish !" to the player left alone.

I was "shocked" to see that the floor person took the other 8 players side and offered a rack to the man insinuating that he should leave. The player looked like a tourist that just came there to play poker. Unfortunately, this person was subjected to harassment and racism because he did not speak Spanish.

I will NEVER play at that facility again nor should anyone that does not speak Spanish . I also witnessed dealers speaking Spanish during a live hand and other player deliberately speaking Spanish during hands almost every hand.

I do not know if there is even a gaming department at that facility , but if there is they need to step in and ensure that everyone is entitled to a fair game.

As for the tourist that was subjected to this embarrassment, he got up and left in total disgust.

Not surprising. More people do speak Spanish in that area than English. It is what it is.

First and foremost, I am not affiliated with Hialeah Park in any way, other than being a regular at the tables and a regular on these forums. Hialeah Park has recently redesigned their poker room and is owning the competition down here in South Florida. I'll post some general FAQ's below.

What is floor like?

Abysmal.

The experience from my lone visit is also detailed somewhere here too -- they'd have to send a limousine driven by Johnny Depp with a complimentary rack of black chips for me to even think about going back -- and even then I'd say No.

Why should you go?

Only because you're not capable of making it to any of the other poker room in South Florida or you're a larcenous exotic animal dealer looking to steal flamingo chicks (see this week's news reports).

And what South Florida casino do you prefer Queen of No??

I read your post, and its ludicrous. Sorry, your experience is 1 in 1000 and unnecessary to comment on. But if you think you'll escape spanish-speaking players in south florida, you're crazy

Regardless, Bravo says it all, so for those in the area, look for yourselves

I'm definitely not a fan of Queen of No, but the above is patently absurd. How could you possibly know that her experience is "1 in 1000"? And if it is "unnecessary to comment on," why did you comment on it?

I don't need to "escape" anything. I don't know why you made the comment to me about escaping "spanish-speaking players". That wasn't my post. However, no one has to "escape", all they have to do is play in a room that enforces the English-only rule during hands. Fortunately there are a number of rooms down here that see fit to do so.

Funny thing: someone brought up Hialeah tonight at the table -- and most of the players groaned. Haha. I'm not alone in my opinion.

She plays at Magic City.

FWIW, I think both sides of this debate are ridiculous. Unlike Queen of No, I would never either exalt or condemn a poker room based on only one visit years ago. I've had both bad and good experiences at virtually every poker room in SoFla. And unlike some here, I actually play at most of them. As an example, this past week I was at Magic City on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday; On Friday night, I went to Jai Alai; and yesterday afternoon I was at Hialeah. This afternoon I will probably be going to Gulfstream.

Ironically, I started to wear ear buds and listen to music while playing at Queen of No's favorite room, Magic City, because I was trying to drown out all of the Spanish being spoken at my table(s). And at Hialeah yesterday, while I went fully prepared to listen to music again all afternoon, my table was virtually Spanish-free and I soon discarded my phone. That said, I realize that yesterday was an anomaly at Hialeah and I have had times when I've had to ask that the English-only rule be enforced. (I'm usually only concerned with it when the dealer herself doesn't speak or understand Spanish.)

The bottom line is that Spanish is spoken by the majority of people in Miami; in fact, quite a few don't any speak English at all. While English-only is the rule in all poker rooms here, it is not realistic to expect no Spanish to be spoken at all while hands are being played, and I've run into this issue in every poker room in Dade County. (This isn't the case for the rooms in Broward County.)

"it is not realistic to expect no Spanish to be spoken at all while hands are being played, and I've run into this issue in every poker room in Dade County."

Of course it's realistic. It's interesting that at major tournaments (like at the WSOP) there will be people from all over the world playing -- and they've learned how to navigate the basics of playing poker in English. Any reasonable person would learn enough of the required language in a poker room to know what they were doing with their money. But that's all a debate for another time and place.

Each of the rooms down here -- like anywhere else -- has their positives and negatives. I go as far as the Isle to play (they have great tournaments and it's a well-run, very nice room). I weigh out distance, the enjoyability of playing in a room, and, of course, whether a game is more likely to be profitable.

Anyone who is playing at Magic City, please stay in your **** hole

Also, it makes no sense to compare the atmosphere of the WSOP tournaments to a cash-game table during the middle of the week...

The Isle is good but they don't run any PLO

You're quite the content-free troll based on your recent posts in this thread. You probably want to post in other forums rather than try to troll in LCP. It won't end well for you.

Today after lunch with a friend, I decided to go to Hialeah to play for a few hours. On Bravo they indicated “$1,500@12PM-3PM-6PM.” Last month this meant a $750 hhj at12:30, 1:00, 3:30, 4:00, 6:30 and 7:00.

When I got there a seat was not available and, while waiting, I picked up a print out of their July poker room promotions and noticed that it listed the hhj promotion as “$1,000 12PM to 10 PM $500 every 30 minutes.”

I played for a few hours and had a good session. It turns out that the Bravo info they had provided was erroneous. There was no hhj of “$1,500@12PM-3PM-6PM.” Their print out of hhj promotions was a bit more accurate. While the hhj promotion was “$1,000 12PM to 10 PM” and technically “$500 every 30 minutes,” it was really $500 every 30 minutes and $250 every 15 minutes, alternating each hour.

How hard can it be to get the Bravo info right or to be more accurate on their printed material?

The poker room at Hialeah is one of the nicest in south Florida. The desk is efficient. Most of the dealers (75 %) are good, have a lot of personality, and help make it a fun experience. About 25% are miserable people or incompetent. The floor is so-so. Yes, Spanish is the predominate language spoken there, but what do you expect. It’s Hialeah! (The same could be said for Miami-Dade County.) I’m a non-Spanish speaking WASP who plays there often. I don’t think I have ever minded the Spanish. Although there seems to be a lot of short stackers, there is lots of gamble in the room.

Notwithstanding their inability to post/publish accurate promotional material, it’s worth a visit.

This is a great room to play in aside from the whole spanish speaking thing that already been discussed. I think this is one of the most comfortable poker rooms Ive played at in terms of seating and noise.

Yet another inquiry here...

I wrote this entire thing but I can make it concise. Is this place terrible for cash game guys or what? Basically I dont play tournys (exception the Miami poker Society shout out to lou et al).

Edit: PLO and NL if that matters, I see they have O8 but no regular omaha? Would they pop up mixed games if asked as I see they have studd (mainly Horse I guess)

And +1 for what boomBAM posted.

Been meaning to go here since it opened but found out internet poker was back so I deposited at a few sites, but sometimes I wanna splash live. Should really get on the poker in florida legisltation thrads

Is the PLO $1-2-5?

I've been seeing 3+ PLO games consistently on Bravo for the past 2-3 months. Will that pick up even more in the winter or is this casino not really a snowbird favorite?
