50BB cap in PLO is nearly unplayable, imo. How do you play your drawing hands when the stacks aren't deep enough to get paid off? Has management ever played PLO?

Should just make it no limit $100 four card flips! Or mix it up and do three boards for the flips to make it interesting.
Sounds very lame!

You can't play cash PLO with 50 BBs. Dumbass management

'cause nobody plays the 40bb cap PLO tables, right? It's definitely a good thing from the management's perspective that 500bb pots won't be happening right out of the gate.

1/2 PLO will play bigger than a 2/5 NL game. It is a good idea not to have all the players going busto right out the gate. It allows them to build a player base, then institute a new game based on the player's wants. Its more important to have the game going, creating rake, than to make it some big buy in game that freezes out the newer players and ultimately leads to its own demise.

Someone who gets it.

Get the new players in. Get them hooked. Then adjust the limits/buy ins.

IMO, live PLO is unlikely to survive outside of Las Vegas: [a] few experienced dealers, [b] limited player interest, and [c] live PLO runs way too slow. Over the long run, management is unlikely to support a game that often plays less than 20 hands per hour.

I run a 1/2 PLO game in Europe.

Rich fish love playing the game deep. They love it that you can gamble on any hand and be a likely winner. These are the type of people who are keeping the PLO games alive here.

Find them or the game descends into who gets aces most tonight and then dies.

50bb cap is actually pretty generous for Hawaiin Gardens. All their other NL games are capped at 20bb until you hit the 2/5 game, which for some reason jumps to 100bb cap.

1st Poast, longtime lurker, blah blah. Cool Story Bro!

Played in this game tonight from about 8:30pm till it broke at 10:45pm. Was told that the game was really good early in the day. The host arrives at 2pm and it looks like they are giving it a legitimate shot.

Anyone with a long term interest in getting small stakes PLO going somewhere in LA should come give this game a shot. I know nobody wants to sit and play with regs but the game was good with typical omahaha action.

Oh and in before "good luck getting robbed on the way home from HG".

There was a ruling last night at the gardens that pissed me off and i didn't even play a hand. As the hosts were advertising about this game on the speaker of the casino they had 2 tables running. So I sat down from a 4/8 game w/ a rack of blues ($1) chips and they said that's not allowed. I asked why. One of the hosts said they only allow a maximum of 20 blue chips when players buy in for 100. The reason is because "we want to attract red chips players" This is stupid because in the regular 1/3 100 buyin NLHE or any red chips games, they allow blue, red and white chips on the table. So now when i have a large amount of the blue chips, they said no? wtf.

I like the idea of having a PLO game with a low max BI to help develop a player base. Obviously if you already have or develop a large enough experienced player base you can offer a different 1/2 PLO game with a $500 max buy in, a 2/5 or 5/5 PLO $1000 max BI, or something similar.

The room I deal in spreads 1/2 PLO and 2/5 PLO both with no max BI, so they're essentially the same game and both play huge. Any smaller stakes hold 'em players that would be willing to give PLO a shot are always scared away by the monstrous stacks.

Probably a semi-truth. It's also easier to count the pot when there are less chips there.

LOL @ anyone thinking PLO wouldn't run outside of LV. LA area has a much bigger population, and well, more "gambling types" COUGH COUGH.

50BB max is awesome to get the game started, people will think they can only lose X amount every time they play.

Also saying the game is going to turn into a nitfest and a "who gets Aces more" competition is just silly. LA players are notorious for not caring how much or how little money they have, they just want to gamble. It doesn't matter their net worth, if you can get someone to get hooked on PLO they are going to keep coming back all the time.

Why don't you just color up? It sound's like you were making this a bigger issue than it needed to be. You could have played if you said "OK, then give me $80 in $5 chips" and kept 20 blues. I'm sure they allow white chips in this game too. A large amount of blues would be a pain in the ass in a PLO game where the pot has to be counted a lot, compared to NLHE where dealers aren't allowed to count the pot, just spread the pot and you have to guess yourself.
