Which means it was no good for that hour and went for the next hour.
Long story short the Kings held up and won the next hour but a interesting conversation ensued between several people at the table and the floor guy while waiting to see in the kings were good. The players were curious how an announcement was made that it was the last hand of the hour when in fact the hour had past already. The floor in typical arrogant fashion said the announcement was just a "courtesy". HUH?!?! so the players have no way on knowing in advance what the official time is and have to rely on an announcement that is in no way official?
Correct me if I'm wrong but dont some other places have the time remaining for their high hand promotion visible where the players can actually see it? but for some reason Harrahs/Ballys claim that it is technologically impossible to do. I believe that the guy who won with the kings said it best after he won when he said "its not about the money its about Harrahs making an announcement that is apparently meaningless". If saying "this is the last hand of the hour........." when it might not actually be, then why bother with it at all if you wont also put the time where players can see it so they know if its the last hand or not?
I heard one of the dealers say that it was the 4th time this week that someone thought they hit on the last hand only to find out that "oops, sorry even though we made the announcement your hand started too late and you won nothing.
Great way to organized your promotion Harrahs/Ballys.
I'm actually agreeing with the floor on this one. I feel most rooms I've played in, it is ultimately up to the cameras on a high hand time issue...I think it's a nice courtesy for the floor to make an announcement, as most places I've played don't. I played in jacksonville at best bet two weeks ago and a guy at my table hit the high hand just as the hour started, the dealer congratulated him, as did the floor. Ended up being voided as the hand started just before the official hour began, per surveillance .
