The circuit event in AC in December has always been at Harrah's. It's at Caesars in march normally.

My amazement comes at HET having picked Harrah's AC to host a MAJOR Circuit Event Tournament. This thing is designed to draw some major names in the poker world. There will be 4 of these big regional events throughout the US. Main events in these 4 super regionals will be $10k buy-in with guaranteed television coverage, which again, is supposed to draw the "sponsored" players who have to play televised events in order to use the sponsor money. ie, pokerstars, absolute, fulltilt. All tournaments will play by the same rules for the first time, and will not be subject to "local" rules. This thing is supposed to be a big deal, which begs the question...why Harrah'sAC vs Caesars AC??

Mr Harrah's must have a lot of confidence in Harrah's AC to pick them over Caesars AC for an event of this importance and visibility. That....or they are going to make another of those old, "This is your brain on drugs...." ads.

I have played circuit events at both Harrah's AC and Caesars AC before. If you have played both, you will understand my sheer amazement at having the regional event at Harrah's. The last Harrah's AC WSOP series a few months ago was so poorly advertised and attended it was an absolute disaster/joke.

If I was running Harrah's poker room, and I wanted to have ANY shot at keeping that position, I would send some floor people over to the Borgata next month to see how a real tournament series is run when they get the WPT events going over there. Personally, I don't think they have a prayer.

Wow, _LasVegasSands_, you really do keep on hating a property once you start! Truly, I'm sorry that you feel this way.

As to why Harrah's instead of Caesar's, I can only guess since I don't know for sure.

For one thing, Harrah's has a bigger poker room. So, more room for cash games.

For another thing, John Arthur is the manager there and has been doing a good job in running the place. He's also in charge of marketing for Atlantic City Poker. Thus, if he's got any say at all in this - and I'm assuming that he does - he would naturally pick Harrah's over Caesar's.

For a 3rd reason - proximity to Borgata might well be an issue. Try to get some of the higher limit cash players to come over and start games. Just guessing on this one, because obviously that's a 2-way sword.

As for the last "circuit event" at Harrah's. It wasn't a circuit event, it was a series of satellites into the World Series Main Event. And, yes, it wasn't attended as well as was hoped for. But it was well run. Not a joke at all. Just didn't get the players, for whatever reason.

Usually the December Circuit event is well attended. We'll see what happens this year.

Last decemeber the first event had so many players they have to use the main room downstairs for tourney tables for a few rounds.

Sorry Lee, it probably does come accross as 'hating Harrah's" as opposed to making observations that seem to be overlooked by the majority of people reading the thread.

If you have played the circuit events (and yes, I know the difference between the circuit events and satellite events, and don't recall saying that the event several months ago was a circuit event, but instead only referenced it as a WSOP related event) at both Harrah's AC and Caesars AC in the past, you would certainly have to question the judgement of having something as highly visible as THIS particular Circuit event at Harrah's.

They had to use some tables downstairs during last year's circuit at Harrah's? The Harrah's poker room manager is in charge of marketing poker for HET in AC? Fellas, you're making my point by yourselves if you give it some thought.

I don't hate Harrah's. I hate the changes and laxness I have witnessed during the past six months.

^^ Thanks for posting. Obviously, Friday and Saturday are not included in this deal. Luckily, I already have free rooms for September on weekdays or else I would be loving this deal.

O wait, I work full time in Central Jersey and have no use for these free rooms. O well

I totally jumped on this.

Booked the evening of the 19th through the morning of the 24th, and it ran me about ~160 after taxes and whatnot.

I'll probably go spectate at the Borgata open that week.

I called up and they said it was from 8pm on Wed to 8pm on Thursday, but they said it wasnt for tier score, only for comps. Are you sure its for tier score too.

I know it used to be.... thats why they got a 2/5 game going on that day more than any other. If they changed it to just comps that is new to me.

If it is not double tier, it had to change very recently. They also have some multiplier thing going on.

Why are you constantly comparing Harrah's and Borgata. Harrah's targets a different niche. They are not going to beat Borgata at what Borgata does. Yet they have carved a nice chunk of the business in the city. Taj poker room is #2 in terms of profits, but Harrah's is number 3. They consistently beat Ceasars, and the Tropicana.

Many people that play at Harrah's dislike Borgata. They are out for a different reason. They may not be playing the higher limits. They may not appreciate the large room. They may appreciate building realtionships with the staff and not being treated like cattle being herded to they're seats.

I have played more hours at Borgata than anywhere else in the city, I like it, but I will admit that their staff is cold, jaded, and there is not much team unity. They work in a room where there are probably hundreds of dealers. That's why I can understand why they don't know each other very well. I personally couldn't care. I don't want to know these people. I just want to play cards. But if you want a friendlier experience, go to a smaller room.
