That's a poor rule. But hey, I'm not surprised it was [name removed]. Is that the official rule, Mike?
I've noticed rules change day to day depending on who is on the floor. For example, there is a written rule (showed to me in writing), that says -
"At limit play lower than $30-$60 the minimum betting unit is a $1 chip."
So if your playing $25/$50 limit and you have $1 left on the turn you can bet it according to this rule. The rule in most places I've played at is, they need to have 1/2 the bet or more for it to be considered a bet in games $5/10 and above.
We had this come up 2x's in $8/16 Om8 1/2 kill games when the bet on the turn was $24 kill:
The 1st - Somebody went all for $3 against me on the turn & I asked to get a floor ruling. Floor person went to ask another floor person and said that it needs to be 1/2 or more so "no" player can not go all in for $3 on the turn.
2nd - I called and thought I was going all in with $24 in hand and placed $24 down "all in for this". I had $26 in front of me and other player(s) wanted me to put in the $2. Floor ruling came down and "$2 must go in". Even if I said "call", on the river I could put the $2 in or call the $2 on a $24 bet. Hours later the floor person showed me in writing this rule. IMHO, a dumb rule.
I did not mind what I thought was a dumb rule. What eeks me however is consistency.
