Yes, goodbye AC. Thanks for so good times. Does anyone know if we are going to be able to play on Friday? Or we going to have to wait till Sunday?

Spoke to a supervisor today.
Asked if they were going to have daily tourneys.
He said none for now but may run some on "special" occasions.
Don't like that.
Sticking with Borgata for now.

My hubby and I were both invited and we can bring a guest. But I'm going to Vegas early the next morning so doubt that I'll go.

Are any white upper middle class players ever going to go to Chester? I don't care if they are handing out bags of $$$ at the door i certainly wouldn't ever go. In fact nobody i know who plays high has any interest in going there.

Re: Harrah's Chester, PA Casino & Racetrack Poker Room

I have not been to Chester in 20 years. Most of the city was torned down by the Revedopment Authority. Residential block after residential block with less than three homes; block after block that were more than 90% empty lots. The bad guys riding through four to a car with the windows rolled up and the doors locked.

How the heck does it still exist as an independent city?

Why are people so scared of going to a casino in Chester? They'll have security. You will park in a parking lot and walk into the casino. Not like you are parking on one end of Chester and walking through the badlands to get there. Jesus. Am I going to be thrilled about walking to my car at 4 a.m.? Not really. I'm going to be careful. Pretty sure the casino is at least a mile or two north of the bad parts of town.

Re: Harrah's Chester, PA Casino & Racetrack Poker Room

To play devils advocate, alot of the difference here is coming from people looking for different things. Just because one person is comfortable walking in and out once a week or so with a few hundred dollars does not equate to someone who may be going in on a regular schedule multiple times a week with several thousand dollars in cash. The latter may be marked inside and have people outside contacted to follow the individual, be it out of the parking lot or even to their home. Not saying it is likely or even half a percent chance of it happening, but people like to feel comfortable and that location does not instill comfort, that is all.

Like it or not, having (to the average thug) several months salary in cash on you puts a target on your back. Even if you believe them or not, if you look in the Parx thread you see people talking about starting very high stakes games that you won't be seeing in Chester likely, and this is part of the reason.

I personally will be playing there if they can get certain games/stakes going regularly. But once Parx opens up I will be moving there, assuming the same. I am not advocating one over the other, just shedding light on why some people would prefer the latter to the former.

no, its really not worse than north philly. especially not where harrah's is.

maybe i'll be the first sucker who is robbed at harrah's next week.

don't casinos have lockboxes for you to keep your money in if you are going to be a regular? i know my nephew doesn't carry cash around vegas. he leaves it in a box in his main casino.

will a casino mail you a check for a large amount?

I probably have been in every city over 50,000 population in Md, De., Pa., NJ., NY., and all of New England. Chester was by far the worse.

That includes all of NYC., Philly, north Jersey, Camden, Trenton and AC. I don't mind a midnight walk on Pacific or Atlantic Ave, but screw Chester.

Re: Harrah's Chester, PA Casino & Racetrack Poker Room

Are you really making a distinction between a town with a curfew at 8 vs 9?

A deposit box would make some of it null but you still have to walk out with cash at some point. All other means of cash moving brought up are not "cash only transactions", which most people are not happy doing regularly.

The casino will have security IN the casino, not as much outside. Even if the area is not directly terrible you are a short distance from one of the worst areas in the state. All someone has to do is be inside and text to their friends "red jacket leaving now lots of cash" ****ty thug can hop a fence, jack you while you are getting in your car and be back over the fence before the Barney Fife casino security gets to you.

The real point is when offered a choice between a casino in direct proximity to a dangerous area, and one surrounded by normal suburbs and strip malls, they are more interested in the latter. Why take the extra risk?

If you want to see how low people can get for small amounts of money look at the guy abducted and murdered from the Taj parking lot this year. No one is saying "This will happen to you!" but it is stupid not to be aware of your surroundings and what people will do to get your cash.

not making a distinction, just pointing out that you have facts wrong about chester. people are spewing wrong information here. i'm not saying it is or isn't dangerous. i'm going to give it a chance. why? because i am less than 15 minutes from harrah's and probably more than an hour from parx. i'm probably closer to del park. bensalem isn't the safest place in the world either.

Harrahs will be fine .
It has been open for a few years now and nothing has happened.
The Atlantic City boardwalk is just as bad not to mention the entire town.
Anytime you go to any casino you should valet park if you dont feel safe.
The Borgata is the only place in Atlantic City that i park myself.
Casinos everyway are filled with broke scary people.
So always be aware of your surroundings and who your talking to at a poker table.
Some guys dont care if its just poker and they will wait outside for some kid that thinks hes protected by the casino.
I have help many youngmen out of situations like that at Borgata.
The bottomline is just be careful in any casino anywhere you go, there is alot of scum running around.

Re: Harrah's Chester, PA Casino & Racetrack Poker Room

Harrahs Chester will be the most active poker room ,with the exception of the Borgata, anywhere from here to Atalntic City. The mistake they are making is the room is too small. The 25 table room will not be able to support the traffic that place is going to have. The poker players and gamblers in this area would rival Las Vegas. If you have grown up here then you know what im talking about.Harrahs Chester is sitting in the perfect spot just off 95 and at the end of 476.The place will be a zoo !They will find out fast ,as did Borgata when they only had 33 tables downstairs, that they will need a bigger boat.

Re: Harrah's Chester, PA Casino & Racetrack Poker Room

I don't love the neighborhood or the atmosphere, but I don't feel any less safe there than in most other casino parking lots and I've been to lots of casinos in many states.

Make no mistake about this though, the place is really, really busy! I've never been to a casino where I've pulled into the parking lot at 11:45pm midweek and there are 10 cars pulling in in front of me.

I don't see how 11 murders in 2010 translates to daily murders.

I'm not saying to go there or that it's safe or unsafe. Just stop, as another poster said, "spewing misinformation".

Chester is a city of under 40,000. It is only July. That gives Chester a murder rate higher than any DC., Detroit, Philly, Memphis etc.

But Chester does this with ease. It has a current murder rate 0f 56 per 100,000.

Philly's rate was 23, Detroit's 37, LA.'s 10, NYC 6, DC's 23, El Paso's 3, Austin's 3, Oakland's 28 all for 2009.

Chester is going at a rate to easily pass them all, and every other major city in the country except for New Orleans. But it will be close with NO!

OK, I like numbers.

BTW, I go to Harrah's New Orleans, as well. And I don't like their parking garage either.
