Greetings New Orleans folks!

I will be spending a few days in your fine city with my family and will be able to get away and play a bit the night my flight lands, Saturday, 4/30.

I am hopeful to play $1/2 - I am open to HORSE or other mixed games in the 5/10 range but I am pretty sure that's not likely. I also like tourneys but it seems that a later Saturday daily tournament isn't in the cards (ha, ha) based on Pokeratlas.

From what I can tell my options are Harrah's (which is about a 25 minute drive from my hotel) and Boomtown (which is a 35 minute drive). I am leaning towards Harrah's because it's a bigger room but would go to Boomtown for the adventure of it (I play in CET properties in my area all the time).

Checking the Bravo now and Boomtown only has a 4/8 Limit game which sounds depressing. I only see $1/3 at Harrah's but that's fine - what is the buy-in? Does $1/2 go as well?

Would love to say hi to some 2+2ers if anyone is around!

Harrahs is a much better option than boomtown, bigger room and a lot more traffic. They don't run a 1/2 game, just 1/3. The max buyin is the max stack at the table. So essentially, you can buy in for $1000 if there is a guy sitting with a big stack. I believe for a new game the max is $500. There are always multiple tables of 1/3 running, and usually they spread the 2/5 NL as well. Hope this helps, good luck!

Harrah's NOLA typically runs

1/3 NLH - limits are 100 min, 300 max when table is just opened
otherwise, max is 100% of biggest stack
(they occasionally have the Miss Straddle & reg versions of this game running)

2/5 NLH - limits are 200 min, 1k max when table is just opened
otherwise, max is 100% of biggest stack... or whatever a reg puts down!

5/10 NLH - I think the min is 500 or 1k. no max (usually runs on Friday nights - if I recall correctly)

15/30 Limit Omaha High - runs on Tuesdays and Fridays - I think 100 min, no max

5/10/25 PLO - I think runs on Sat nights.

during the WSOP circuit event - you'll find other variations of these and other games... but it depends on # of players wanting to play - just start an interest list and if they get 10 players, an empty table and a dealer - it goes.

no draw games are allowed in NOLA. only flop games.

That's all I remember from my last visit.

This leaves out 4/8 LHE, 4/8 LHE/LO, 4/8/12 LO and 4/8/12 LHE/LO.

Of particular note is that there are no split pot cash games at Harrah's NOLA.

I played the 4/8/12 HA game when I visited and it was a lot of fun.

actually - there have been some regs that have been trying to get a 10/20 Omaha HI/LO game going... but it hasn't really taken off yet.
The Beau in Biloxi gets that game going on a more regular basis.

and yeah, there's 4/8 LHE
and as noted prior - 4/8/12 half and half as well (half limit, half Omaha hi)

Quick question. I'll soon be publishing a novel about a couple New Orleans poker players. Would like to mention Harrah's specifically as the location for several scenes, but the casino in my story passes a wand over high-value chips at the cage to be sure they aren't counterfeit. Does Harrah's do this? Played there for a few days last year but can't remember.

Does anyone know if they run any donkaments? I can't see a calendar on their website.

Going down for a bachelor party and a wedding (two separate trips) and will want to splash around drinking with some mates, don't really want to play deepstacked cash when drinking heavily with mates, though I'm sure we will do that too.

The two weekly donkaments are on Wednesdays and Saturdays at 11 am. $130 buyin iirc, you can reenter through the first break. They get about 50-80 runners.

2 Questions:

1) Does the hotel have a poker rate?

2) Does the poker room have free wifi?

I checked their website, but it was of no help.

Also how is the poker room temperature?

Siberia or balls hot?

How bad is the 2nd hand smoking from the casino area?

1. ??? on hotel rate
2. yes free wifi
3. very very cold room temperature-wise

i never notice second hand smoke coming into the room. You can call the poker room at 504.533.6043 to ask about the poker rate - there's also a **** ton of airbnbs in new orleans that are fairly cheap and nice options.

Hey all - will be in town for a couple days starting tomorrow and am planning to put in some table and degen time. I couldn't find up to date info elsewhere so hoping someone can help. What's the drink situation? Free? Subsidized? Other?

Thanks in advance and maybe see you at the tables

Free beer and well drinks for everyone, free premium drinks for platinum/diamond rewards cards. $1 tip is typical.

I'm local but mostly almost exclusively online. Every time I do play live, Harrah's is great I think the dealer and the floor run things very well, perfect mix of enforcing the rules and being flexible to keep things fun.

My question - Does 2/5 get going every weekend? I know the 1/3 plays huge as is with some ridic stack sizes so I imagine 2/5 would get pretty spicy. I would be licking my chops to jump in a 2/5 if it gets going.

Usually one table of 2-5 goes on Friday and saturday nights, sometimes 2. Rarely a 5-10 game will pop up. The bigger games that run often are 15-30 limit Omaha and occasionally 5-10 plo.

this game sounds super fun. does this go everyday? coming in for a conference in the next couple of days, so hopefully there's a game going...i'm primarily a limit player (30/60 or greater), but i assume 4/8 or this half/half game are my only options for limit??

nah, just Sundays starting round 10-11 and going most of the day.

As for other options, a 15/30 Limit Omaha Hi game runs regularly on Tuesdays and Fridays.
