Was playing there last weekend and there were multiple 2/5 games sitting. Seemed to be a few regulars at each table all trying to take advantage of drunk Saints/Vikings fans.

Any Limit Omaha (15-30) or LL PLO running?

Thanks

I played Harrahs New Orleans Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday nights of this past week (in town for a tradeshow).

- I only played 4/8 limit (no kill game); usually anywhere from 1 to 3 games going and at most times great action; this was the only limit game they had going (no lower or higher limits); 10% rake up to $5 plus $1 BBJ
- usually 1 half/half 4/8 game (half limit, half omaha)
- typically during the early evening upwards of ~15 of the 20 tables going (most 1/2 NL, I think there was a 2/5 NL although I could be wrong)
- I found it a little too noisy with it being across from some sorta lounge or something that was blaring music
- chairs were comfortable if you were leaning back in them, but extremely uncomfortable combined with the too soft too low table if leaning forward (which I like to do)
- dealers were all fine and pleasant
- I walked up Canal street to my hotel near Bourbon street at 2:30am - 3:00am all nights without any problems

Oh and the quarter is ridiculously safe. You dont even have to use your head and you will be fine.

Action still going strong at Harrahs.

The rake is pretty stiff if you add in $4 per hour for parking. Comes out to $16 per hour rake.

I've gotta find somewhere else to park!

I thought there was free (validated) parking for players, last time I was there (March). Maybe that was a limited time promotion?

Anyway, I'll be in town this week; expecting extra-good action due to Sugar Bowl. Anyone who has any tips on local entertainment and/or food, shoot me a PM. thx.

Good call to the parking validation. I'll try that Friday night but am looking to park somewhere else. Most likely i'll call them when headed down. I plan on getting there for 5pm Friday, crazy action at 1/2 or 2/5

What's the max for 2/5?

I heard that they are now keeping track of poker play. Anybody know what the comps/tier score is for the 1/2 and 2/5 NL games are?

I'm heading down that way in March, and am curious - since the last time I was there (last April) they weren't giving out any comps for poker at all.

I'll be there, barring anything crazy, Friday at 5pm and maybe even Saturday PM.

I'll check out all the latest details and post back.

2/5 max buy in, might have been $500 or equal to big stack. I could be wrong as I didn't play it last time.

Bigtex21, Thanks for the input. By the way, I looked for you at the Palm Beach Kennel club last week but you weren't there at that time. i was going to say hello etc

The 1 2 there is 300 max buyin or the big stack. So I am sure its the same rule for 2 5. If I remember correctly the 5 10 when it runs is uncapped.

2/5 is 1k max or equal to the big stack, that's why the game is so good

Yeah by looking at the stacks at the table the 1, 2 looked like the stack sizes you would see at my local casino for 2 , 5. The 2 5 looked like a 5 10 with average stack sizes of around a 1000.

Went last year during a random saints weekend. Played 3 days. Bit of the 1-2 while waiting for the 2-5 list. The 5-10 never got off the ground. Was told by a couple regs that they used to play 25-50 once in a while, but switched it to private for whatever reason, and that 5-10 rarely runs. I've logged significant hours in the bay area and la, and the quality of play in NO is noticeably worse. Also, as has been said, 1k or match the big stack. So was completely common for me to sit down in the 2-5, and see 6 400+ bb stacks. I only brought 6k b/c I called ahead of my trip and asked what is commonly spread. didn't even think to ask about max buy in. I played 3 weekend days, but for people who buy in so deep, the older regs didn't play them very well at all. Overall, one of the softest equivalent stakes games I have sat in that took place inside of a casino.

Was kind of nice. Came straight from the hotel after landing to kill a couple hours b/c they wouldn't let me check in since room was in buddy's name/credit card. I bought for 1k, and within 2 orbits, was dealt AA twice. First board I 3 bet in position over a raise and two callers. T33. Lead 2/3 pot and get a call. 9 turn. a bit less than 2/3 pot gets a check raise. I call. River 7. He ships, I call, he mucks. An orbit later, I raise in EP, same guy calls. 3 streets of value. Plane ticket, hotel, dinner and 3 off the floor seats at hornets vs raptors. ship it.

Never been in a casino other than walking through one in Reno a couple decades ago but Harrah's and the Belle of Baton Rouge are both less than an hour from me. A couple questions please since I see recent activity in this thread:

What is the minimum and typical buy-ins for the 1/2 NL at Harrah's? The smallest Limit game and buy-ins?

I know I need to register to play poker but do I need to register to play at Harrah's?

Buy chips then go to table or get chips at table?

Can I find a game 10-11AM weekdays?

Dress code? (I'm a jeans and pocket t-shirt kind of guy by choice)

Same questions for the Belle of Baton Rouge if anyone thinks it would be a better starting spot.

Thanks for any assistance. I did read all I could find a few months back but the doctors and hospitals needed my poker stake more than my fellow poker players did apparently. I'm brushing up on my reading again and plan a trip or two next week to either Harrah's or the Belle. I have played a little internet poker but haven't played live anywhere in over thirty years. Feeling greener than a gourd!! Hopefully some of you are willing to help a fish find the wading pool. I'll be happy to post a current update about Harrah's in this thread in return.

Headed down there for the last weekend of January. Played last summer there for the first time when I was there for my bday. Loved it and paid for my trip after 8 hours of play over three days. Are they still doing the time rakes?

How's the action of late? I seem to remember a lot of bad players, lots of LAGs. The few regulars I saw were either maniacs or similarly loose. Few tight players from what I remember.

How's the action late at night? Is it filled with drunks or grinders?

Thanks!

time rake of $6 per hour. i personally hate paying that but i am a tag then lag player.

make sure you get your parking validated in the poker room (thanks Tex)

action is crazy. it's almost like a shift change around 10pm. The drunks stop by for a few hours after happy hour. Then about 12-1 the "been out" guys show up with their sunglasses and kinda bombed.

lots of lagtards, very passive game. Guys will easily stack off with TPTK all day in a limped pot.

the 1-2 game will have up to 5k on the table sometimes, easily.

the local grinders are easy to spot (i am a wannabe local grinder) then there are some locals that are known atm's. it's almost like a list of bad movie characters in there sometimes.

They were not even enforcing this max buyin when I was there over MLK weekend. Guy bought in for 3K without anyone saying anything.

I can't emphasize enough how loose this game is- probably best 2/5 game I've seen in the states. I had PF limp-raise to $300 called by 4 players, and this was not even surprising given how the game was playing.
