Well, if he's flying in, he'll be right by it. Certainly no problem with the one in the Hilton or whatever that hotel is, but if you're only going to eat at Drago's once, I'd rather hit it on the way into or out of town.

no. just no. don't go to metairie. don't care what it's about it's not worth it.

thanks guys. we'll be driving in from atlanta for a convention (have to haul a lot of **** thus driving). so i will have a car but since i'm on business i'd rather not (drink and) drive around. i've been to mother's before and plan on going again. is emeril's worth it? i'm actually staying at the courtyard - convention center.

The yelp for New Orleans is fantastic. Not trying to brush you off or anything here, but it's been a great guide for me to find restaurants around NOLA after moving here.

I have been to Emerils. It's expensive and very good.

My current favorite is jacqueimo's. It's uptown just off carrolton, but it's absolutely ****ing fantastic. Get the alligator cheesecake. It's pricey, but not that pricey. They don't take reservations unless you're a big group though.

Thinking about it a bit I don't know the FQ restaurants too well. I only go there when my parents are in town.

OK thanks guys, I looked up JacquesImo's and it looks solid. I'm not against taking a cab to something really good. And I will use Yelp, thanks.

On this season of Top Chef they talked about Dooky Chase's a lot. Is that worth it? the hours look difficult.

Last time I checked the streetcar prematurely ends on St Charles. Plus if he's here during parade season there's a good chance you don't want to rely on that anyways.

SoBou in the FQ is solid. Surrey's in the Lower Garden District has excellent brunch. My fav brunch place for sure. Mother's of course. Yelp is usually good about the restaurants in the area though. Gl man.

GW Fins

I'm a huge dragos fan, but it's really only the charbroiled oysters

+1 on skipping Emeril's. If you want a fine dining experience you're better off at August. Commander's Palace is an institution and well worth the trip to the Garden District.

Fried chicken at Dookey Chase is the stone-cold nuts. Liuzza's, Mandina's, and Parkway Tavern are all in a 5 minute radius of DC and worth a visit.

Cafe du Monde too. There's one in the Riverwalk (prob closest to you), and another on Decatur going towards the French Market. If you make the walk to the French Market, be sure you go hungry. King Creole is great (alligator sausage poboy is my humble recommendation). Hard to go wrong eating anywhere in the Market though. Smells amazing.

SO am i reading the website right that dookey chase is only open for dinner on friday nights?

What is August?

I'd definitely be in for any modern-fusion type place as well. If there's a Vietnamese/Thai/etc type place that you guys rec.

Thanks again this thread is going to help out huge. Pretty sick that I'll be in town for almost a full week. My coworkers are all excited about the food but none of them like seafood so that kinda sucks for them. I'll eat anything.

A week of NOLA is a dream come true. Ull have a full weekend of drunks in the poker room, a few more days of good standard action, and some of the best food and people around. Have fun and win a lot

jacqueimo's for sure - excellent food.

If you're REALLY looking to go fine dining, Commander's is fantastic.

During the day - grab a cab to Willie Mae's Scotch house for some bomb fried chicken.

Correct. It's also open until 6 or 7 on Saturday and Sunday, but only open for lunch during the week.

Contemporary French and Southern cuisine. It's the flagship restaurant of John Besh, probably the most nationally-known chef with New Orleans roots besides Emeril. It's in the heart of downtown, just a block or two away from Harrah's.
