You ought to see what the 5/5 PLO game in Shreveport turns into.

Flying in soon as a first timer to this property. Can someone tell me what typical cab fare will be (from MSY)? I've been told I can also take Harrah's shuttle service for $20. Is it generally save to walk around outside the casino at night if I'm staying at a nearby hotel? Thx.

cabs are on a fixed rate from airport, between $40 and $50 I think, shuttles are much cheaper. I think it is cheaper than $20 to take the downtown hotel shuttle and just go straight to your hotel but it's been a while since I took that, I may be wrong.

It is safe around the casino, just don't go north of Bourbon Street at night.

I was there for a big professional meeting April 5-10, the same time as the Women's NCAA Final Four. There's a hotel shuttle from the airport to the downtown hotels that only costs $38 for a round trip. Much cheaper than a cab. I stayed at the Hilton Riverside right across the street from Harrah's. The area is prime tourist country and quite safe with many hotels quite close in the same area.

Friday and Saturday night the poker room was crowded but the wait for a table wasn't long. Dealers were good and efficient on the weekend nights. However I played one weekday afternoon which was a mistake. Everyone was a regular and well known to all the dealers. One dealer in particular was spending more time shooting the breeze and joking with the players and staff than he was dealing cards. I felt like I'd crashed someone's kitchen table home game and left after only an hour.

So if I were to stay at the marriot, could I get away with parking at harrah's for most of the week?

Perhaps someone else knows more about this. I was thinking about doing the same thing on a recent and upcoming trip. However, it looked like you had to take your car out of the lot every 24 hours and then have your new ticket validated each time.
Too much of a pain in neck for me.

Yes--provided you're willing to play 30 min every day to get your ticket validated. Getting in/out of the garage is a pretty painless process. I think the Marriott's close by, so it wouldn't be too difficult.

Is it still $6 every dealer change on time rake or has that changed? It's been a couple of years since I jumped east...

1/2 changed to pot rake. I believe that the higher limits (2/5, 5/10) is a time rake.

I am going for just a 48 hr stay upcoming weekend and I think I will do this again. Cool that the poker room does that and you just have to renew parking ticket once every 24 hours.

You can actually stay parked in the garage for the entire 48 hours, as long as you get your player's card swiped for 1 30 minute session of gaming every 24 hours. This is what I was told back in December, and I had no issues.

If you're not making the cut for CET parking comps, you can also park 1 mile up the street for $2/12H or $4/24H (1535 Canal St) and take a streetcar back and forth for $1.25/OW or $3/day pass. And you get a couple of interesting NO streetcar rides.

I'm here now and paying $6.50 all-in vs. $28 at my hotel.

Hmmm, I don't know If parking your car in the lot next door to the Iberville Projects is such a great idea. New Orleans is extremely safe in the tourist areas but I wouldn't recommend wandering above Rampart St. at night.

Not my car. Belongs to Hertz. Someone damages it, my CC insurance covers it.

It ain't Henderson, but one or two incidents of vandalism or auto theft in the last three months won't scare me into paying $28.

$5+1 CET rake, now, that's scary.

meant to update when I returned home...

early in the month, they changed the requirements on the BBJ...it is now quad fives beaten by quad sixes or better, both cards in hand still must play.

weekend action was still as juicy as I recalled from past treks east.

Both cards must play or pocket pair?

Did not ask on this trip, but on the old rules, it did not need to be a pocket pair. So, with the old requirements in mind, I am presuming that one must be the card that yields quads (if there were three of something on the board) and the other would be kicker that plays (which is how the old rules were explained way back when I was out there far more regularly).
