Totally agree, if you people keep on playing here they are never going to reduce the outrageous $7 rake.

I could be wrong here, but when I read the rake plaque(sp) I read it as 6+1(player bonus) i though tthat would be the bad beat.

discuss

The plaque on the table I saw just said 10%, and since BBJ isn't approved yet, I doubt they can take the BBJ money yet. And since they're taking $7, it looks like it is $7-0 now.

Why can't one of these rooms have a high hand promo instead of the usual bbj?

Donks and degens love the idea of winning $80,000 (especially when it's described as 40% of $200,000) as opposed to winning $100 when they flop quads.

Caesar's Palace in Vegas had it best - use the promo pool for both - es, it cuts into the BBJ susbstantially, but still leaves the overall BBJ pot big enough that the morons who think about it can still drool and say "wow, BBJ, I'd win 40% of $100,000", even though that's half of what used to be offered for the BBJ, but gives the place enough in the promo pot to use for other things.

Horseshoe Hammond uses part of that promo pot for tournament entry giveaways, so props to them for that.

not sure if this has been addressed, but why the hell are the tables ten handed?

They are doing this now. It's $75 for quads, ? for s flush, ? for royal. They also have aces cracked ($50) and match hand. ($75)

Match hand you must have the exact same hand as the flyer says. AdKcJh8d9h=/=AhKcJh8d9h. And you have to play two from your hand. Wow.

BBJ is up, since they're raking for it now.

Why shouldn't they be? Ten-handed used to be more common than it is now. Nothing wrong with another player at the table. Especially in a room with such a limited number of tables.

Are you only asking this question because nine-handed is all you personally ever see and assume that one more seat is somehow "wrong"?

Haven't been there yet, after reading this forum I'm a little put off. Is there anything that would attract me there even with a high rake? How's the action been? Are there any experienced dealers and pits? How's the food?

There are some experienced poker dealers -- most were converted from some other game -- but from talking to them, some have experience from Empress/Hollywood or Rockford Charitable --- The floors had variable experience - but there was always one guy who they went to when there was a question that went beyond their knowledge.

Didn't eat while I was there -- but the menu looked to typical - not like Vegas type selection - but ok

It was nice playing with clean chips and felt

It was also nice seeing clearly inexperienced players roll in and buy in for the minimum and just gambooool -- (even better when thye wold re-buy) -- at least on day 1 that was a regular rotation --- I loved seeing a $5 bet into a $50 pot OOP after the flop ---- and then the chasing commenced --- action seemed pretty good

Has anyone actually talked to the poker room manager about the rake yet? I'm curious as to what he would say about it.

I went here last night. I have to admit that I could not go through with not tipping the dealers in protest. I just fealt too guilty. There was definitely some inexperience but every dealer I encountered was very friendly and social. The room was very nice. I spoke with the poker room manager, forgot his name, he was a bigger guy and was very nice and helpful. I let him know that the room was very nice and the only real complaint I had was the extremely high rake. He acknowledged that he knew it was up there but said he spoke with his higher up and could not get it lowered. On the bright side, only 4 or 5 tables were going and it was a Friday night, so people are definitely staying away. I think if people continue to complain and stay away from the room, they will end up lowering the rake. I only played for one hour just cause I wanted to check out the room(and get an entry into the Doyle Brunson freeroll) but I will stay away from this place now until the rake is lowered.

Also, something that kind of bummed me out was the room over all seemed like it was filled with pretty solid players. Didn't see too much wild action and didn't see any real donkey play.

Yep. Took a look today. Mostly, a dead poker room. Three tables up. Dead joint. Buffet closed on a Saturday. Didn't play, headed to Indiana, Illinois State Police had speed operation on 80 east bound at 142. Positive note: Got a good cup of coffee at the Starbucks in the pavillion of the joint.

Downtown Joliet Illinois is a weird looking place. It looks like a movie set, for a John Dillinger movie. Place looks like it is stuck in a time warp.

Are the dealers pooling their tokes? Do the other area poker rooms pool?

They pool. The dealer I know claims it's a gaming board rule. I pointed out this would lead to dealers that don't care and they disagreed.

I was playing Friday night too. If that is the softest play you have ever seen you should play at the Indiana casinos

I played there again last night and wow...had one interesting player for sure! Only 3 tables of 1-3 but they opened a 3-5. My table broke about 2 hours later. First though, completing the list of Bad Beat/High hand that was posted before:

Mega bad beat: Minimum Quad 8s (was around 12k)
Mini bad beat: Minimum AAAKK (was around $1,400)
High Hands: Royal - $150, SF - $100, 4oak - $50
Aces Cracked - $50
Then that matched hand thing

So about my experience yesterday..was playing 1-3 from 7:15-9:15pm or so. Had someone sit down at the table that new about 20 words of english and new even less about poker. He bought in for 2 or 3 hundred and donked it off in a few hands...then reloaded for another 300 and donked that off a few hands later. One orbit of the table took 10x the amount of time than usual because he didn't understand anything. A guy sitting next to him knew Spanish and was letting him know the bets in Spanish and while we complained a little since it should be English only, the guy was adamant about playing (and spilling his beer on the new felt) and the helper guy was only saying the bet amounts etc. We also didn't really complain since he was donking all his money off. He'd bet $50 preflop, then $5 on the flop, then go all in but he'd muck his cards (after taking 2 minutes to figure out that he had to show or muck). It was a weird experience, not helped by another player calling those two people names every 5 seconds but at least it was a gold mine. Just wish I had a hand for the few hands that the guy was in.

Oh man that was a weird experience 0073735963. I was also at that table. (I wasn't the douchebag in seat 8), felt bad for the guy in seat 1 since he clearly didn't know what he was doing and wasn't having a good time. He should have played craps or something where if he wins the whole table goes "WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!"
