The food court is a solid value. No need to knock it. The pizza place sucks, but the burger joint (Johnny Rockets I think?) and the deli are both solid for the ~8$ entrees.

I tried eating at the food court to keep costs low, but the food blew donkeys - I would like to avoid paying $30 for a meal - is that Asian noodle place (with $13-20 plates) any good?

So can someone give me a bit more info on this WSOP stop? It seems odd that they tournies would be played electronically but I don't see how Harrah's would be able to use live tables for a tournament but not use them in their regular card room.

....
The law changed there recently and they are no longer limited to the electronic tables. For the tourneys they will have regular live dealer tables setup in some convention type space. Should be pretty similar to any other circuit stop.

I recently visited Harrah's Cherokee for the first time, and I was impressed. I live in Atlanta, and I found out on President's day that I had the day off...so three hours later I'm walking into the Casino.

I've never been to Vegas. My live gambling experiences are limited to the Silver Star in Pearl River, Mississippi, a casino on a Carnival cruise, and various home games.

I liked Harrah's a lot. More table games than the Silver Star...I probably counted 20-25 blackjack tables, 10 or so 3-card poker tables, and plenty of Crapps. The $5 tables were packed and were hard to weasel in, but not a big deal. The dealers were more sociable than I'm used to, and overall the clientele was a tad better than the casinos in Mississippi.

Paying for alcohol is a real bummer, though. North Carolina has some really strict liquor laws so it makes sense, but that's a pretty big buzzkill.

I didn't play any poker...I'll wait for the live tables to come in...but I think I've found a new spot to visit frequently. The difference in travel time alone is a huge plus. 3 hours versus 5-6 for Mississippi.

Second I hope that after tournament players drop out they will move to the cash tables. A lot of the tournament players I’ve played with do not do very well at cash.

Only 71 tables total so I'd be shocked at 1k. I'd say 5-600 for event 1 would be great event 2 with reentry ought to hit 1k if turn out is gonna be decent

Event 1 is on a thursday. There are a lot better events later on that locals will be willing to miss a days work for.

Why not try your best on event 4a/4b opening Saturday if you want to set a bar. Better make it total prize pool, I think its a reentry.

Or event 3, the PLO on Friday night if your really eager to speculate.

I know I'm being REAL lazy in not reading thru this thread for the answers but can someone walk me through how the poker works at Cherokee, currently. Do you put your name in on the computer or do they have attendants? so you sit at a table with the people you are playing with?

You get a player's club card, you go to the cashier and get your card set up for the poker tables, including a PIN, load money onto the card, then you go to the poker room and either swipe in at a display up front and pick the games you want to be on the list for, or you talk to the poker floor people (yes their are attendants) who will help you with that. When a seat opens for you, they will call your name and direct you to the table, where you sit with the people you play against. You swipe into the table, decide how much of your cash you want in play, and follow the easy directions to play. Ask someone at the table if you have any questions about game operation or settings. You will probably find it easier to operate the touchscreen using your player card to tap than your finger-tip.

cool. thanks. this is all actually pretty important to the grand scheme of things. it will help my sanity if i expect that it'll take up to an hour to actually sit down and play rather than thinking it would happen as soon as i walked inthe room

Does anyone have knowledge or thoughts on the single-table satellites that will run. I would like to know when they will run, how many will run, the structures, etc.

My plan is to satellite into a $365 and cash. Then buy-in or satellite into the main event and win it. So I will turn $50 into $200-300k. Anyway that's the plan and even though I have absolutely no live table experience I think I can pull it off.

For real though, any info on the satellites would be appreciated. Thanks.

Anyone have info on event #4?

How long are the day 1 flights(the second starts at 5pm)?Is this really a 3 day event or is just listed incorrectly?

Will having 2 flights on the same day be a complete mess?

Same way at every stop except WPM and Chicago I think. Play 16 levels and remaining from both flights play together on Sunday...Final Table Sunday unless field size in HUGE.

I'd be a little shocked if there weren't sit n go's running through out the night. If this is indeed the same crew that runs tunica, they have always had sit n gos.

Ruth's Chris is also a chain. Both establishments are consistent in quality and pricing that you would expect in your local city. You should probably dine at either place just because it's pretty much your only choice.
Brio Tuscan Grille is a medium size chain with about 50 restaurants nationwide. They are part of BravoBrio Restaurant Group, which also has about 50 Bravo Italian restaurants. IMO, Brio is an excellent restaurant in its category/price-range and gets consistently high marks on consumer restaurant review sites. Despite its name, Brio has a fairly broad menu, and even has a pretty good hamburger. The free sourdough bread they serve with meals is probably the best bread I have had at any restaurant. Although it is a little more pricey than Olive Garden, Brio is also a lot better.

Ruth Chris is a medium size chain of Prime Steakhouses. For those who don't know what that means, they serve Prime Beef, instead of Choice Beef served at places like Outback, Longhorn, etc. Food and service is excellent. Good appetizers at the bar. There is multi-course combo meal (including dessert) for about $45, or ala carte. Only open in evenings.

I am not happy with the food court. Johnny Rockets is usually a good burger joint, but at the Cherokee Food Court they per-cook burgers and put them in a holding tray, like at McDonald's, etc. Not nearly as good as a regular Johnny Rockets, but maybe if you go when they are busy they won't be in the holding tray too long. I thought the Uno Pizza was OK. Sandwich shop is OK (Boars Head meats).

There is also a Paula Deen's restaurant, but I was extremely disappointed the two times I tried it. I guess it caters to old people who don't like salt or pepper on their food.

There is a Casino buffet that is decent (only tried it once), There is also a small Asian restaurant (not in food court) that is open from about 6 PM - 2 AM Thursday-Sunday only (not sure about WSOP-C week). Menu is extremely limited, somewhat expensive, but pretty good food. Caters mostly to Asians.

I eat at Brio at least once every day I am at the Casino. You can check out the menus for Brio or Ruth Chris Steak House online at their websites.
