I'm not sure if I wanna walk a mile carrying $400k in cash after taking down ME.

Need to give that some more thought.

I am not sure I would want to walk a mile with the entry fee.

Anthony, will electronic devices and headphones be allowed at tables during series? Please say yes.

I'm voting yes also.......definitely don't want anyone to use headphones or iPad to slow the game down, but if they don't impede the pace of the play, hopefully they'll be allowed. Just my .02.

Wouldn't WSOP have a standard rule on that? At the regular WSOP in Vegas I believe that no headphones or electrical devices allowed once players are in the money (before that is OK). Don't know if they have the same rule for Circuit events, but they probably already have a rule, and probably not up to local staff at Cherokee.

Edit: Someone "claimed" in another thread that headphones were allowed at the New Orleans WSOP Circuit event in 2012.

As most of you know, Cherokee does not allow them at PokerPro tables.

Attended palm beach kennel wsop circuit last year... Had no issues with wearing them. Even in the money still wore them. No problems.... It's a joke that Cherokee won't allow them. Wtf.?

Keep in mind that Cherokee rules for cash games on PokerPro tables may be different than WSOP Circuit Event tournament rules.

Because of the computers used by PokerPro tables, they are apparently a little paranoid about electronic devices being used at the tables. I don't know if it is because they use wireless networking or what. My understanding is that the upcoming WSOP Circuit event will use 100% live dealers, and that most likely regular WSOP Circuit Event rules will apply (whatever those are).

From browsing the web, it appears that once everyone is in the money for a particular event, then WSOP rules are that no electronic devices allowed, presumably because it cuts down on talking between players and is bad TV (just in case they want to show any part of the games on TV). All players are required to sign a release regarding TV, media, etc broadcasting of the event. If you play the main event, I think you will see some TV cameras deep into the event or at least at final table.

I don't know, but this last Saturday they said that anyone could re-enter during first hour of play. I don't recall about other daily tournaments (only other day I have played was on Sunday, and only one time).

Clearly the anticipation is palpable. I am definitely excited.

Going back to the venue discussion, surrounding area, etc...how is parking at Harrah's? If you stay at another hotel in the vacinity is it a cost deterrent to park at the casino everyday? I wonder how hard it will be find parking once 5 zillion poker players descend upon Cherokee??

They have free parking with two parking garages (one for casino and one for hotel, but you can use either one) and outdoor parking. I have never seen it full yet, but don't know about during the WSOP. If you get there early enough should be no problem. I wonder how many people will attend WSOP?

Thinking about driving up to Cherokee for the first time this weekend. If I stay at Frontier Motoer Lodge (I know I'm being cheap but all I need is a place to sleep/sh*t/shower) will I feel safe walking to the casino or is that far enough away that I will want to drive (I live in an urban center and walk most places so half a mile is a stroll for me). And if I need to drive what is parking like, how much does it costs and is it hard to find on weekends?

Thanks!

Don't know a thing about it; but let us know how the rooms were and pricing; and whether you thought it was safe. If you don't post back we'll send Custer out with a search party.

As I mentioned in a post above, Casino parking is free and you won't have problem with parking this weekend at the Casino. However, you will be within walking distance from the Frontier. It is impossible to give you any guarantees on safety, especially at 2 AM in the morning (or whatever), but Cherokee is generally safe (except there was a robbery/murder of a tourist a few months ago--but they have caught the perpetrator).

One thing you may not know is that when you first get there you must get a Total Rewards Card, and then go to a cashier on the Casino floor (cashier in Poker Room is sometimes closed) and load your card with cash that will be used on PokerPro machines. I load my entire stake when I first arrive and cash it in when I leave the last day, so don't carry a lot of cash on me. Poker Room is on second floor next to Event Center and Brio restaurant.

I don't know how much the Frontier costs, but if you are going to drive anyway, you may get a better deal (or maybe somewhat nicer room) a few miles away. As I mentioned above, I would recommend using Priceline Name Your Own Price, or Priceline Express if 2 miles away is OK, and you are certain about your plans (reservations are paid up front and non-refundable, although you can purchase trip insurance from them).

That is less than a 90 minute drive from 4 major cities:
  • Dallas
  • Ft Worth
  • Oklahoma City
  • Tulsa
Most people coming from those cities drive to and from the casino each day.

Roger: Thanks for all the useful info. The extra detail you went into will be very helpful. I have a Total Rewards Card that I got from Harrah's Las Vegas back in the day (2-3 years ago). I assume that will work? It looks like Anthony knows a lot about the operations maybe he can confirm.

Caesars/Harrah's uses one card for all their properties, so it should work. You can access your account online to verify that it is still active (http://www.totalrewards.com). You might even find some free offers online that are good in Cherokee. Even though the Cherokee property is the only Caesars/Harrah's I have ever been to, when I go online I can see discount or free offers for all the other Caesars/Harrah's properties.

For those without a Total Rewards card who will be attending the WSOP Circuit event, it may be possible to sign-up online and have them mail it to you (unless you live in Illinois). https://www.totalrewards.com/Program/Default.aspx

Headphones, e-devices were allowed at WSOP satellite tournaments held on Poker Pro tables at Cherokee in April 2011. It was pretty cool actually. I'd be surprised if they're not allowed for the WSOPC.

As far as walking to the casino from hotels farther than right across the street, I recommend against it. There are too many rascals and too much poverty in the region to take that risk. Just drive it; parking will be plentiful,

That was my concern. I have read several studies about the high poverty levels around many Native American reservations. Not making judgments about people, just reading statistics and playing the odds.

As a heads up -

Yesterday, a significant stretch of Highway 411 near the top (the road between Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge and Cherokee through the park) slid off the slope because of the heavy rains around Knoxville. For those coming via I-40, this adds roughly an hour travel time to the trip - you'll have to go into NC and take the Maggie Valley/Waynesville exit to curl around back to Cherokee.

Because of the severity, I don't anticipate that 411 will open back up until the late summer, considering that the weather near the top will affect any ability to work on the road until March-April and it looks like it was a nasty event.
