How many tables does the room have? Is there any action at all during the week? I live in Atlanta and there are no poker rooms close by.

That's because the next closest casino is 6 hours away (Charleston, WV), the next closest one is 8 hours away (Tunica). They are going to milk that gravy train for as long as they can despite the inconveniences to their customers.

They can milk it all they want in my opinion. All they are doing is milking the fish, and I'm drinking it all up. Live cards or a computer screen, I don't care. Taking money from fish is taking money from fish. Doesn't inconvenience me, or a lot of people judging by how busy they are, in the least.

What are the current recommendations as far as places to stay? The casino website says they are booked for this upcoming weekend, as does the Fairfield Inn across the street.

What's my play for staying as close as I can to the casino on friday and saturday nights?

thanks

If you feel like staying in Asheville I can get you a seriously cheap room (under $40) at the Econo Lodge. I know it's a bit far away, but just wanted to offer (I work there). Send me a pm if you do, if not, no worries.

Same offer applies to anyone ever looking to get a room in Asheville.

No, it's filled up with slots degens, not poker players...

And to the guy who suggested the econo lodge in Asheville? There are MUCH closer options.

The Microtel I mentioned 5 minutes away (walking distance) and cheap/clean/decent, a few more hotels in Cherokee and several in Maggie Valley about 20 minutes away.

Asheville is too far, and to suggest staying at an ECONO LODGE that far away is ludicrous.

I know, I said it was far away, but a lot of people come to visit Asheville, and will make the trip to Cherokee for a day or two. Was just making an offer to help him out, not telling him it was the best option.

Tried the tournaments this week both Tuesday and Saturday. They are not bad at all. Figure to be there 3.5 -4 hours if you make it in the money, best I can figure. I was knocked out around 14th or 15th on Tuesday and only lasted down to 3 tables Saturday. Plan to register early as on Tuesday I arrived at about 1615hrs and I was around 30th in line. They had computer problems in the registration booth and it caused some gridlock.
Both days I busted out and was quickly seated at a 3-6 Limit table and quickly recouped my tournament losses.
I had my name on the 7-Stud list on Saturday but it was wishful thinking. There were more names on the PLO list but it never went off either. Still looking forward to another PLO8 game with Bobaby. I plan to be down there at least a couple times a month this year. The poker room is much better than the old one. I heard rumor they have plans to get more tables for the second floor to play more tourneys, possibly sattelites but I don't know if the source info is solid or simply idle chatter.

Harrahs has opened the new tower, and has 500 more rooms. You may be able to stay on-site for around $59 or less, Sun-Thurs. A little play and maybe free. I get free weeknight rooms from just poker.

The tourney was full. 5 grand in prize pool, the math is easy from there. From what I have seen expect the tourneys to be full most every time.

You might. Then again you might not. I was surprised to see it fill up so fast on a Tuesday evening. Like I said there was a line when I got there at 1615hrs and I was somewhere in the 30's in line. If I could predict whether you can get a seat at 1700 then I would already be rich from playing cards
I will be there long before registration begins tomorrow. Look me up if you are there. I will likely be at the 3-6 limit table. You can't miss me, I block a lot of scenery.

I may have to wait until next Tuesday then...I don't think I can get away in time to be there by 4pm.

Definitely interested in the Saturday MTT...I assume with the structure posted that its more like a turbo.

If you don't live too far away and want to come play poker it may be worth the trip. If you are just trying to get in the tourney and can't get there till 5PM you may be disapointed. I wouldn't make a trip on that chance. Come on up to play get there early as you can and if it doesn't pan out you can certainly play poker.
The structure seemed pretty relaxed not at all like a turbo to me. The electronic tables play much faster so 20 minute blinds on those tables would be more like 40 minute structure in a home game. I did not look at my stats as I should have so I cannot give you an accurate hand count per hour but I did not feel rushed and compelled to shove early at all. YMMV

They will still run the tournaments in March and they increased the Tues. one to 70 players max. (Great bigger prize pool!). They also added a $100 +$20 one at 2 pm on Sun.

Thanks for posting this info Flydude. I was going to call before I come up this Tuesday(3/1) to see if they would be running. Thanks to you I don't have to call.
I had a virus kicking my @55 since Friday and hope I feel like going this Tuesday. I sure didn't feel like going Saturday.
