Unfortunately, my experience with Cherokee is only during the WSOP, but I can say that during those times, the cash games are good weekday and weekends.

My GUESS is that the games during weekdays outside of the WSOP are probably above average compared to MOST casinos around the country on their weekdays.

Here's the event schedule: https://www.wsop.com/tournaments/schedule/?groupid=5306

They usually have a paper schedule at the room that shows the smaller non-ring events as well, I'll try to remember to grab one and post a pic next time I'm over there.

Also they have a promotion running for July, for each 50 hours of cash game play you get a buyin to your choice of the $400 wsop tourneys.

Mon-Thurs evenings not during the wsop, there's usually like 5 or 6 tables of 1/3 and 1 or 2 tables of 2/5 going. Sometimes randomly more or less. Right now is the busier season, lots of tourists visit the Smokies during the summer.

The 1/3 games are your typical live 1/3 games, very soft, lots of limped pots with 6 people seeing the flop, etc. The max buyin is $300 so it doesn't play very deep, compared to 2/5 where you can buyin for $1000 or match the biggest stack.

Unfortunately they are very averse to spreading anything other than their "standard" games. The people making decisions are table games people, not poker people, and it shows.

They said they would spread RxR because NL and PLO are already approved. They just need to print out a placard. Then we just build an interest list—maybe during WSOP.

Oh that's good to hear then. Yeah WSOP circuit times definitely get more people willing to play bigger games. You could also try getting it semi-scheduled for a certain day/time each week if you have enough people to get it started. I remember a year or so ago they had a scheduled 5/10 NLHE on Thursday nights I think but it kinda faded away.

What I've mostly experienced here is that the players seem to control decision-making more than the dealers. Lots of hands-off dealers hoping issues will just go away. They will also pick your chips up after 10 minutes away from the table, so watch out for that.

Sweet spot though; right next to the bar and nice Sportsbook!

This could be my last trip here. Last year, they had these ridiculous wait times for cash games. Earlier this year, it looked like it wasn't an issue anymore. Unfortunately, here we are again. Spend money for a hotel, burn vacation day at work, and I get to sit around playing on my phone. Fun Harrah's Cherokee (Cherokee, NC)

I agree, very poor service, left early.

I went to Cherokee a few months ago. Called ahead the max time allowed and still had to wait for 30 minutes. When I finally sat down at 2/5 there were two empty seats.

Was a pretty sweet game though.

From what people I know have said for at least 10 years now, Cherokee could become a truly massive poker center because of its location and proximity to TN/KY/VA/SC/GA/AL all places with limited or no casinos and people that enjoy poker. They have the circuit there 3-4 times a year with great turn outs. I can't understand why they wouldn't hire more dealers, a waitlist with 60 people screams poor management.

Or they just want the poker players to lose something in the pits that probably don't see much action during the year (only reasonable theory I can come up with).

Oil Boomer,
$9 a hand! I assume that is on any pot $70 or more? That seems excessive. Counting tips that is somewhere in the neighborhood of $250 an hour coming off the table. How can you overcome that to any degree unless playing at least 5-10 PLO or HOLD 'EM?
Racetrack.

It's sad, but that is what happens when they are the only game for hundreds of miles. Let's hear it for being in an area of the country against gambling.

Are (or were) there any plans to add poker tables to the Kings Mountain place?

The games are so juicy (at least the times I've been there) that it almost makes up for the rake -- almost. Will be there Thursday for one night. I hope it's still juicy.

Thinking of making a 3-day trip during 2nd week of March. Any info on the 2/5 NL games ... frequency, # of tables, general action, etc?

I'm here now and Cherokee is a good news and bad news situation. Your first time fortunately it will likely mostly feel good. However with subsequent trips it'll get worse and worse from my experience.

For example there are pages of players for 2/5. I'm 3rd on the list and have been waiting 30 minutes on a damn Saturday. Why don't they have dealers? Why are there so many players yet so many empty tables? It's beyond comprehension. They know they have the WSOP and they know what the bandwidth will be.

From my history with poker, more tables equals better games but these games seem less good the more I play. I think part of the problem is they have the tournament and 1/3 cash games in a separate area. That's where the good action and fishy players are. But they are segregated from 2/5 and higher. This is not to say the games are bad or difficult rather they just are not near as good as I would expect it to be for this many tables. I sat down Thursday for my first session and I immediately recognized a grinder from Louisville and a grinder from Atlanta. Those aren't really the players I want to play against. If I could go somewhere else, I probably would. Maybe your experience will be better than mine.
