I've never played O8 before till a couple days ago online, now I'm trying to learn it a bit just to take a shot at it at Harrah's. How would you all compare the O8 games to the NL games? Imo, the NL games I would rate as Poor (worse than average, but not Very Poor, ie extremely easy). Would you consider the O8 games as average, better than, or worse than? I hear they play very big, which in my mind equates to loose action, ie a very poor game. Am I right about this, or are the players actually quite good? (Please only adept O8 players answer this) Also, I'm almost befuddled as to why O8 runs, but not PLO, considering PLO is far more popular. Anyone know why PLO doesn't run, yet O8 does?

Why don't you come on over Friday afternoon and sign up on the O8 list and form your own opinion?

I would say the O8 players are a little more scholarly than the NL holdem players. No offense, but with only one table of O8, the players seem to be very knowledgeable of the game. Looking for opportunities to quarter someone, etc. I found this to be true in Vegas and Atlantic City as well.

I dont think the O8 game at Harrahs plays quite as tight as an online O8 game, but not as loose as the average live Holdem game.

PLO does run, but rarely. Again, with only seven tables, during busy times, anything other than Holdem is a challenge. When the room expands, look for PLO, O8 and Stud if the demand is there.

Unf I can only make it there during the week, but I have seen it running from time to time. Guess I'll play it sometime soon, but my "opinion" wouldn't be very valuable, even to myself. I might only trick myself with my conclusions. It'd be like putting a beginner NL player into a game with a bunch of LAGs, after only hearing that "playing tight is right" and then he concludes the game must be sweet since ppl are playing so much "junk," not understanding the more important dynamics of the game.

I don't think there is anywhere to snowboard in EASTERN NC....... Silly rabbit. There are a bunch of cool beaches though...

However in WESTERN NC (where Cherokee is) yes there are plenty of places to ski and snowboard. The mountains of NC get a decent amount of snow from now till about Feb. Just do a google search for ski resorts in the appalacian mountains. There are about 10 or so within a 1hr drive of cherokee.

I would have to wager any O8 game held on a Friday or Saturday would be far superior to one during the week. The problem is the weekend fills up with holdem. I have only been playing O8 for a few years but have played all the 7 stud games(razz, stud, stud H/L) for many years. I have played stud at Cherokee and it was a great game with players on both ends of the spectrum which made it quite lucrative. Just really hard to get folks to play those games anymore. I do hope that with more tables will come more available games. I would absolutely slobber over the offer of some HORSE at Cherokee.
I will probably make it back this Friday and hope to get an O8 table going.......I will not be leaving after only 4 hours of play unless I totally bust out. I thought I would bust out several times last Friday but caught some good cards in the right position several times and managed to maintain.

Does superior mean tougher or juicier?

I think it MAY be juicier but I wouldn't hang my hat on it, jmo. When I started at Cherokee back in April the 3/6 Limit Holdem was delicious but a juicy game is hit and miss now. I think you have to look at the kind of folks the game in question will attract. O8 is a game that will probably attract those who are familiar with the game. Lets face it, middle aged slot players with little knowledge of poker and fat pocket books, are not likely to sit in on an O8 game. Likewise the truly uninformed armchair TV tourney watchers are probly gonna pass up O8 in favor of "holdem", right now. When there is more room that may change as some poke around to find their lucky game. Maybe if the floor would start telling those "whatcha-got-to play here" folks that Omaha is holdem with 2 extra "free" cards we could get more interest

Ah, I see where you're coming from. Well, atleast the NLhe games are still really juicy!

And the great thing about O8 is you often get a "chance" to get your money back in a split pot.... lmao

When I was there a weekend back, the game running was PLO8. Unfortunate, I'd say from the standpoint of establishing O8 in the room. $3/$6 Limit O8 could be excellent. And that should lead to 3/6 O8 with a Kill or a half Kill. Juicy fun.

Hey, I remember BAlvey from the Knoxville poker group online. They serve alki at the restaurant I believe, but not on the casino floor or at the poker tables.

Btw, is there still a Knoxville group online? It seems the one I had a link for became defunct. Trying to find out if Tony in Farragut still runs a New Year's game...

In the cafes, (in the hotel); maybe in the coffee shop in the hotel, but not on the casino floor. I don't think they serve in the buffet or Fresh Market either.

Hey man, how's it going. I'm not sure about Tony's New Year's game, I'll ask around with the few guys I still keep in touch with. I haven't kept up with the group in quite some time, actually played again last night for the first time in a few months.

I was there last weekend and had a few beers across the little cafe by the sky bridge but you can't take anything on to the casino floor as of yet. Room service will deliver shots of most brand name liquor but not full bottles. The diamond longue is in the middle of the casino and you can go in there and have a few libations if you must.

Got an email from them about it and checked in here to make sure the word had spread. General info from the email for those that didn't get it:

Monday, December 21!

All beer and wine sales on the casino
floor will be cash only and sold
Monday-Saturday, 7am-2am and
Sunday, Noon-2am. You may purchase beer and wine from any Beverage Server or at any of the service bars on the casino floor.

Also, you can still enjoy mixed drinks in the VIP lounge and hotel restaurants during each outlet's hours of service.

No info regarding pricing, which isn't a surprise, but i really wish they had a list of what was available. I haven't been able to get there since November so i don't know how it's been received.
