They just started the jackpot drop last year. For years before the drop started, the rake was 10% capped at $7 (no flop no rake.) I doubt they reduced the rake when they started the jackpot drop, although I haven't been in a while and can not say definitively.

I think that the rake was $7+1 since they started the jackpot.

Yes $7+ $1 Don't know it they're dropping the extra $1 while it's five handed or if they're doing reduced rake (in the past dropped to 5+1 5 handed). BBJP doesn't seem to be updating/rising on the bravo app.

Changed all the lower limit BJ games to 6/5. Trying to makeup for the lost revenue lol. It was pretty full last weekend. Masks required and a temperature check at the main entrance.

Hey guys, think about making a trip here. I don't drive and would need to get from Ashville to Cherokee. Anyone know if there are buses/shuttles/charters I could take?

Trip report: When entering the casino they check everyone temperature then give you a wrist band to show you passed. In the poker room everyone had masks on. One person at my table took his off, but the floor was there very quickly to nicely tell him to put one on. When a player sits at the table the dealers will spray their hands with sanitizer. They are doing a good job trying to keep everyone as save as practical during covid.

Play was a little different. They are playing 5 handed. As mentioned before in the thread, verbal is not binding and oversized chips play other then in the blind. I did not find that to be any trouble at all. For the oversize chip rule, if you do not have the correct change for a call just ask the dealer and they will give it to you. For the verbal rule, you need to push the chips forward. If you are going all-in, ask the dealer for the all-in chip, they give it to you, and you put that forward. I did not check if the rake was dropped with the short play. For breaks they give you 10 minutes before they pick up the chips. In reality it’s a little longer, no one is starting a stop watch when you leave. But I did see players chips picked up that were gone for too long and there was a waiting list.

I did notice more confederate flags in Cherokee then I have before. I can’t see that helping business at all.

Played a couple of sessions last week and gathered some news on the room move. Word is they're moving downstairs by mid-September. Number of tables will be 17 initially, 34 when pandemic stuff is over. They're trying to get approval to increase the number of players at each table but there is no certainty if that will happen with the move. Bad beat and promotions will resume with the move.

Any updates on the new room, or more players at each table? I'm coming down for 3 nights on the 28th

Yes, it is the worst room around. Rake is robbery, but they can do it since they are the only room around. I rather just fly to Vegas ot drive down to Florida or Mississippi, and I live just 2.5 hrs away in Atlanta.
I would say the only time worth visiting Cherokee is when the wsop circuit events are in town. Outside of that, I reccomend to anyone that asks, to skip it.

Where in FL? Just moved to ATL from NJ. Looking for options. Needs to be a nice place for the family too...

Thanks!

Thanks!
Couldn't help you much on the family part, but HardRock in Tampa should give you plenty of family options around the city. But poker is available in quite a few spots. Check out poker atlas and bravo poker.

If you are a recreational player just looking for the occasional fun poker getaway, Cherokee is fine. It sits at the gateway to the Great Smoky Mountains. There are several museums/attractions for the family. Plenty of hiking trails also, including the Appalachian Trail. Asheville (a local favorite for its breweries, music scene) is only an hour away.

If you are trying to make a living from poker, forget it. The rake is too high at $7, and that is before the bad beat drop. Also, it's a 3 hour drive each way.

If you want to try Florida, the Jacksonville area (about 6 hour drive one way) has 2 great rooms (both are named BestBet.)

If you’re in the ATL area and haven’t checked out the new Charity room in Buford GA, you’re messing up. Little Kings and Queens. Check it out and thank me later.

Room moved downstairs next to Sportsbook. Impressive space. Currently 5-max for all games with $5 max rake, promotions still suspended. Exception to 5-max is 1 table of 8-max 5/5 PLO they start on Friday/Saturday night only. That table has plexiglass dividers - other tables are open. They are hoping to move all tables to plexiglass and increase number of players for all games, but no definitive word on when. No tournaments until player numbers at tables increase. No food allowed at tables. Messed up policy of verbal not binding. You can say “all in” all day and it doesn’t mean anything. Single oversized chip is now a raise rather than a call. It’s ridiculous and causes a lot of issues, especially with players who are new to the room. To go all in, you have to ask for an all in chip, and then throw it forward. The only word that dealers are allowed to respond to is “change” when you need to call a bet exactly.

They seemed really strict on hand sanitizing and mask wearing early on, but I have noticed some slippage in enforcement recently. 5-max pretty much blows but what are you going to do.

That room is run by bunch of amateurs, thanks for the info but I rather drive an extra 4-6 hrs to a better room than drive 2.5 hrs to Cherokee.

There's gonna be nothing left but the 7 or 8 80 year old guys up there. It's as if Cherokee studies how a good room is properly run and says 'let's do the opposite of that'.

It's good to have a legitimate option for poker in the ATL metro. Definitely pricey though.

While it may seem like it, I think it’s comparable to the rake that’d normally come out of pots you win at the table. If we truly kept track of how much comes out of each pot we rake, the hourly seat rental won’t seem bad. That is, of course, if you are constantly winning pots lol.

I agree, reading about the place, I think you have to pay like $25 to get in the door and pay $20/hr for your seat. So unless you're super aggressive playing lots of hands, it definitely not a better option.

It’s a little cheaper. $20/door and $15/hourly seat rental. It has literally taken away any desire to drive up to Cherokee unless the Circuit is in town. Helps that I’m 10 min away.

How many players at each table? Do they have plexiglass dividers for each seat? I'm very curious to check it out. Also wondering how they run this place without the law having a problem with it, I know they use the "charity" tag.
