2/5 is above average during the week (but only 1-2 tables running) and very good on the weekend (when theres 5-7 tables). sometimes tables can get a little slower with action going to the PLO games but i've never had trouble finding a decent game

I wouldn't say that. I've been there many times on Fri/& Sat without the series there and have left with a great ROI. Plenty of husbands that come take a shot while wives are on the slots as well.

On what to do, you can drive over the mountain into Gatlinburg, beautiful drive, lookouts, hiking...plenty there in town, just weather permitting to get over the pass in the park. *Just make sure your brakes are in good shape

I've always found good things to eat at the casino.

if you do end up in Gatlinburg the "free" moonshine tastings are highly reccommended (free meaning you pay $5 then get a $5 off coupon for anything in the store)

Last time we were up, we started at one store (Davy Crockett's), left side where there are two tastings bars...proceeded tasting all 10 or 12 varieties, then moved to the next, then the other side of the store w/ the same setup. Was a great free buzz to start the afternoon.

After the tastings, we walked out with a few bottles.

We didn't have to pay for tastings @ Davy's. I know there's a few different stores on the main drag though.

Never went to Davy's. Will have to check it out next time I'm up that way. The two I usually do are Old Smokey and Sugarlands. Both are basically the same as you described, 10-12 samples and are easily in walking distance of each other.

There is not much in the town. But on site Brio's is very good. If you enjoy Asian cuisine, check out Noodles. There is a food court with a limited selection: Johnny Rockets, Earl of Sandwich, some pizza and a Dunk in Donuts. There is also a Starbucks, Ruth Chris Steakhouse and two other restaurants (one a buffet).

Thanks MachFour

One more question - how often does a limit holdem game happen there? or is it just no limit games during the week?

what kind of numbers can be expected for cherokee poker classic? 200+50 seems absolutely unbeatable, but 365s are still full of guys having no chance to cash. Are the classics played in the ballroom/pavilion or reg poker room?

I'm also interested in any info/experience on the Poker Classic. I've never heard of it before... is it annual? I've attended circuit events before. Is the cash game action as busy during this event? Less? The FAQ says they can host 55 cash tables during this thing..

My understanding is this is the first time for it. The schedule is similar to WSOP with the same buy ins. I suspect it should get similar numbers of players.

I would say lower than the WSOP-C, I doubt the circuit grinders have this on their itinerary since they'll be there shortly thereafter, but I could be wrong in my opinion as well. I'd like to see similar #'s though.

So I read that the rake maxes out at $7. Is there a jackpot promotion as well? If so how much do they take for that?

10% up to $7. No promo drop or any type of promotions.

You can also D/L the Bravo Poker Live app and view the poker room info. Which will also have MTT clocks running.

Jason Jones, room mgr, had told me a couple years ago that they were thinking of running promos but have never seen any.

It’s my understanding that the same crew that runs the WSOP-Circuit events here is running the Classic. So the experience and rules should be essentially the same. They had a poker classic back in 2013 or 2014 before Cherokee was a multi-stop for the circuit, but other than a similar name they don’t seem to be very related. They didn’t advertise the classic heavy outside of North Carolina. It didn’t show up on Cardplayers poker tournament schedule til a few weeks ago. The schedule and structures have been available but unless you were looking for them I don’t believe you would come across them. That being said I don’t believe we will get Circuit numbers for these events. Most of the non local circuit grinders might not know about it and the Florida’s Escaltor series has been more widely advertised. I still think the fields will put up solid numbers and should be pretty weak. I’m still pumped for it. Hopefully since it’s not wsop players will be able to make a deal if they want.

It seems like a good structure with good starting stack(20k) for 150K GTD.

I'm sure this has probably been covered, but what's the best way to get to Cherokee for someone who is interested in flying in to a series and is coming from either Atlanta or Charlotte? Renting a car? Uber? are there safe, consistent bus trips to there from anywhere?

You're looking at 2.5 hour - 3 hour trip from either location. Did you look into flying into Asheville? That's only an hour away. I'm in SC, so I don't know about the buses. We have them, but more like the "touristy" day trips.

There are a couple buses from ATL but not orginating at the airport. As Mach mentioned your best bet will be Asheville and cabbing/Uber over or renting a car. From the time you would land in ATL and transport to one of the bus locations to ride up you are looking at 4hours on a good day, Asheville is about 35min.

If you don’t have a car, there is almost no public transportation on the reservation. I suggest the Days Inn, Fairfield, Stone Brook Lodge or HI Express that is walking distance and almost closer from the poker room than the hotel towers anyway. The Cherokee Grand on the corner of Paint Town Rd is lower priced but walking there at odd hours may not make you comfortable. The Grand offers a free shuttle to the casino but it only runs about every 30 min from about 8am and ends early, like midnight.

Asheville is definitely the closest airport to fly into. I would rent a car over Uber. The casino is an hour drive from Asheville.
If you are going to rent a car, I would just fly into the place with the cheapest flight. You also could include Greenville/Spartanburg Airport or Knoxville.
