The "7-star jumps the line" is standard afaik. I even read here on 2+2 that one time a 7-star was given a seat immediately at a casino in Atlantic City despite there being no seats available. How did they do it? They made the table 11-handed. No, I am not kidding.
I respect your opinions, but there are circumstances at Cherokee that make this different from other poker rooms.
First, there are only 5 live tables in the entire poker room.
Second, there is an absurd ratio of seven star:non seven star players in this room. Many of the seven stars skipping the lines are companion seven stars. Their tier is irrelevant and they haven't "earned" their status as you suggest; They just have a good friend/family who is a seven star or have paid a few hundred to a random seven star to get companion status. This creates a system wherein there are dozens of seven stars/companions playing every day in a room with only 45 seats. This is what differentiates it from a place like AC or Vegas where there are a ton of seats and not a lot of seven stars in the room.
Also, this is Cherokee, NC. Not a lot of tourist influx, just a ton of locals and regs meaning that when a tourist does come in, he/she is not going to get a seat. When I was there on Saturday, the first guy on the list had to wait 4 hours for a seat because seven stars kept on bumping him down. There were another 20 names on the list that probably either never got seated or had to wait another 4+ hrs. There is going to be basically zero influx of new players into the games if this rule holds up, which for obvious reasons is terrible for the health of the games.
Personally, I think the rule is terrible for everyone's interests including the seven stars and the casino but I don't have a problem with the fairness of it. I just think it's kind of a dumb business practice.
Problem would be easily fixed if they only let seven stars cut and make companions wait.
