Didn't play much poker. We got there at ~11am, and played the pit games for a few hours. By the time I visited the poker room a tournament had started and there were only four cash games running. I was extremely interested in the 1/2 PLO, but the average stack at the table was around ~$2,000. If I brought more money I would have sat down, but it was a little too rich for me.
I did sit at the 1/2 NL...not sure why. I spotted: 3 old man coffees, 3 TAGs, 3 average guys, and myself. Not a lot of money on the table either, but I sat down anyway just to get a feel for the pokerpro tables. Overall I liked them. Pretty easy to figure out. This table was really boring, but I attribute that to the ~50 players in a tournament. I imagine the table may have been more juicy if they were in the cash games instead. Anyway I left after about an hour and went back to the pit games.
Hit a full house on Let it Ride for $495 ($165 * 3), so that was nice. Lost a quick $200 on blackjack. Bought in for $100 at three-card-poker and ran it up to $800. Nothing crazy, just playing the ante and beating the dealer. That 6-card bonus (not to mention the pair plus) is such a ripoff. Don't know why people play it.
My wife and I counted our chips, and figured all things considered we were up $400 for the day. Not bad. So we decide to play more hand, and she throws $25 out there on the pair plus and doesn't let me look at her cards, but I do see that she purses her lips as if to stifle a smirk and I know she's got at least a flush. Dealer turns her hand over and it's the beautiful A-2-3 of diamonds, for a nice $1,000 score. Not a bad way to end the evening. We tip the dealer and immediately leave the casino, back to Atlanta.
I love that plo game... sad I missed it last weekend while I was in vegas. A lot of times it plays as 1-2-4 or recently turned into 2-5. regardless it plays very big but lots of people buyin for 100-300 (repeatedly)... Cant wait to head back up this weekend. It usually starts Friday night by 7ish and will run straight through until Sunday afternoon, average pot size can swing from 200-800 regularly as the player pool switches gears.
Also, to any that worry about the pokerpro tables, I think they are very enjoyable, fun and easy to play. As for the competition level at the casino, you only have to be better than those you play against and the winning regs at Cherokee dont seem to play against very tough competition...
