That said, Kai at horse pass in chandler az is my favorite restaurant ever. Tho not technically in a casino resort

The reason you pay for alcohol is probably that there is no competition anywhere close by. Same is true for Seminole Casinos in FL. Maybe there is some law about that in NC or in Cherokee, but it is typical of isolated casinos.

I think you are making a mistake by not at least trying the PokerPro tables. Once people get used to them (about 30 minutes) they are actually preferred by many poker players:
  • No tipping dealer
  • 50 hands per hour (instead of about 25 for live dealers)
  • No mis-deals
  • No playing out of turn
  • Computer keep stats so you can see how you play.
  • Chips don't stick together (due to dried human sweat on real chips)
  • Don't have to stack chips when winning a big pot.
  • Don't have to carry around large amounts of cash with you (put all money on your card when arrive first day, and cash it out when you leave).

A significant number of tourists that come to the Cherokee/Rocky Mountain National Park area stay at the casino hotels, so not all degenerates (although tourists are arguably even worse when it comes to food budgets, especially if they have children with them).

Anyone who criticizes Brio or Ruth Chris must be eating at restaurants that charge $75-$150 per meal. But just because some of us don't want to spend that much for a meal, does not make us degens.

Can you use cell phones while playing poker?

Do they have tvs for sports near poker? And does the casino have a sports bar or lounge?

Does the casino have wifi?

Do you think they will be something like $70 and $125 buy-ins that award tournament chips? Are they winner-takes-all or top-two?

For real though, any info on the satellites would be appreciated. Thanks.
An excellent plan

Based on recent Tunica circuit experience, they will not have satellites specifically for the $365 events. What they have is single table satellites that pay out various amounts (depending on the buy in) in tournament entry chips. They are basically over sized chips that you can only use to buy into satellites and circuit tournaments (they are commonly called lammers).

One note though, I went several times to play some of these while at Tunica, and each time found a sign saying no tables were available - come back in two hours.

So watch the schedule of the other tournaments. While the big field tournaments are at their peak attendance, they will always have the priority for tables.

No cell phones in poker room while sitting at table. Don't know if that will change for circuit event.

Tv's in poker room. Not viewable from every seat.

No wifi that I know of.

nothing against the PokerPro tables, I just had a limited amount of time and wanted to play as many pit games as possible. Of course I just played blackjack and three-card for 7 hours, but whatever....

I actually like fiddling with chips at the poker table, though...it will be weird playing without chips

You are not alone. Some at the PokerPro tables get a stack of chips from downstairs and "fiddle" with them while they play poker.

At many Indian Casinos around the country (located on Tribal lands) the state laws do not apply. Not sure about Cherokee. But even if NC laws do not apply, they would not give out free drinks unless there was another casino nearby that did.

Yea, state laws don't apply. The tribe modeled their policy to follow state laws. They like to let people think its because of state laws that they can't give free drinks. I got blocked from their facebook page(can't post comments) because I said it was from lack of competition.

If I had to guess I would say it is from lack of competition. Even if they do by law have to charge for alcohol they could charge a penny a drink. Just tip the waitress a buck and she keeps $.99.

Sale of alcohol at Cherokee casino was approved by a vote of members of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians nearly four years ago.

The measure was approved, and emplemented, for one reason only: to increase revenue so the tribe could improve an array of community services and also boost the bi-annual payouts (a.k.a. "per capita") to individual tribal members.

In NC the laws apply. All alcohol liquor in NC has to be bought from the ABC Board. Unless the Cherokee Tribe wanted to set up there own Beverage Control Board they are stuck with the NC laws.

What you say may be completely true in the case of the Cherokee's (EBCI).

However, as a general rule, Indian Reservations are not under the jurisdiction of state laws, and only under jurisdiction of the US Federal Government (under specific provisions of the US Code and Bureau of Indian Affairs in the Dept of Interrior). For that reason, there is no state income tax collected (for those who work and live on the reservation) and no state sales tax collected on most Indian Reservations. Indians do pay Federal Income taxes and are now US Citizens (which wasn't always the case). However, in some cases the Indian Tribes have voluntarily chosen to abide by state laws and to give jurisdiction to the states as a matter of convenience.
