Thanks! Now I just have to worry about chip theft, I suppose.

If the rake at Jack Cinci is 5+2, how much worse is the Harrah's Cherokee rake? I may be playing 2-5 at both in the next couple of weeks, but wasn't sure what their rakes were.

Rake at Cherokee is 10% up to $7. There is no promo drop, so $7+0.

Went there for the 1st time since they completely got rid of the dedicated cage for poker recently. Holy crap is that brutal.

Agreed, it sucks. This casino won't be any good again until they sell it to a different owner, preferably with ties to Vegas. Wish Caesar's would buy it back, but would gladly take MGM or Stations.

Yes, unfortunately IMO Jack Gaming has pulled back the reigns on their initial plans for all their casinos. It's been reported/rumored that Dan Gilbert (Quicken Loans) wants to purchase a MLB team and would probably have to separate his ties to his gaming businesses in order to do so ... so why dump cash into the properties if someone else is just going to change things anyway? They've basically done nothing at Geektown Casino in Detroit either, which was supposed to be part of the Jack group. GL

Agree about the cage. If you go with any regularity it is best to just keep your chips for your next session. I do this and just cash out excess chips in my pocket if I walk by the cage on a break and there is no line.

Not really sure if anyone who works at JACK monitors this. But, if someone could forward to whomever makes decisions, it would be great.

I have played in lots of card rooms around the country. Lots. Bad and good.

I have seen good policies, and bad. Standard and unique.

JACK's very unique policy of not reducing rake "during promotions" has to be a first. It has led to many 2-5 games breaking that used to flourish during the week. And annoying the players beyond belief.

Great decision to the staff! Instead of getting what used to be I think $3 when 4 handed, now you get nothing but pissed off customers who will leave as soon as we get less than 6. LOL!

That's really strange. I have never heard of that one before.

Jack Cleveland sucks as well. The poker room manager is a punk and those under him are too. I’ve taken to driving two hours to Columbus to play.

I believe that your ban forces you to do that.

No ban. Just prefer Columbus. Nicer room. Kinder, more gentle, staff.

I know they have a policy of having to get approval for reduced rake, but was not aware of them not reducing it during promos. I only play 1/3 though, which doesn't have too many short handed games as most people complain and ask to break the table (due to not wanting to play short handed, not due to rake).

Is this partially to blame for them only getting 1 game of 2/5 running recently?

2-5 is dying for forces not really in their control. More people have gone to PLO, and the other to 1-3. There have been a lot of people who used to prop up the 2-5 economy who simply don’t even play any more.

The rest of the 2-5 regs are thoroughly annoyed at the absurd rake policies. A majority of them have been around poker a long time. Paying $6 in total take while four handed is absurd. And this “no reduced during promos” policy is even worse.

They should allow cheaper rake at 2-5+ and/or just stop taking the promo drop and make 2-5s not eligible for the promos. Almost no one playing 2-5 cares about the promos.

Looks like Hard Rock is taking over. Based on my experiences with HR poker rooms, this is a big win for us. Hopefully they get the cage re-opened.

It is Hard Rock International that is buying Jack. It is a sister company to the company that runs casinos like Hard Rock in Hollywood. Hopefully will be the same quality of room as those in FL.

Gilbert is such a crappy businessman he couldn’t get anyone to buy his dumpy Cleveland properties.

It will happen. Only a matter of time. I think he only has interest in 3 more gaming properties. Jack Cleveland, Jack Thistledowns and Horseshoe Baltimore.

Funny, he made his money in mortgages. No question he has done well there. The casinos he has sold were profitable and that’s why they’ve sold. Jack Cleveland is a sh*thole. Hence no one wants to buy them. It’s the least profitable casino in the state.

Not so sure I can blame a guy for 'not' implementing his plan for these properties once his focus changed. Would you continue to remodel a house if you knew you were being transferred in 4 months?

He (most likely) wants to buy the Detroit Tigers and he can't own these properties due to MLB ownership guidelines.

It's certainly possible that he thought buying up casinos would be 'fun' and didn't really know who or how to put talent in place but I'm not really buying into that line of thinking.

I'm not really hearing where his NBA team is in financial or organizational disarray either ... GL

The Cavs may not be in financial disarray, but he also probably lost several hundred million on paper in the value of the franchise when Lebron left. When he first left in 2010 the value dropped 25% from $476 million to $355 million. Due to spikes in team values when he returned the value of the team went to over $1 billion. If it went down 25% again he would lose $250-$300 million in value. The team would also be generating less revenue in general.

Also, there was a 13% increase in local restaurant business. If there was a similar spike to other service industry businesses, then the casino may have had a similar increase, which would have also fallen off post Lebron. I have also heard that neither (I know I have seen info on one of them and believe both) of the casinos have hit the numbers that they were projected to hit when being built.

I also thought that he only had a stake in them when originally built, but then either bought them outright or took on a larger stake when Caesars went into bankruptcy and sold them. If that is the case he has a lot of money tied up in them and they are not generating the return that he expected. He would also need a lot of cash to buy the Tigers and unloaded the casinos would free up a lot of capital.
