My working assumption is that the OGC is to blame.

Mind you, that's basically my default assumption. And usually it's right.

Wow this is very sad. Where did they announce this? Also were any reasons given? Seems odd that no one at the horseshoe knew this was happening

Edit: saw the card player article. They said "logistical and scheduling difficulties" which to me sounds like "we put super high guarantees on our tournaments and forgot to begin giving away promotional seats due to the room manager leaving. The current promotional fund is not enough to make a profit with these guarantees."

The scheduling excuse doesn't make sense as they explicitly chose this date in order to separate themselves from southern Indiana and Hammond.

I knew something seemed off when they hadn't began giving away seats and no one knew when they would begin...

Didn't the 3% pay fiasco at Hollywood involve a missed deadline 1 month before the tournament? This announcement came exactly 1 month before the series started. I tend to take this stance also.

The WSOP twitter feed certainly seems to be implying that it was not their fault.

@Sean__Reed Agreed Sean, wish we didn't have to, but weren't left with a viable option.

@hohnjolley @HorseshoeCincy Yes, sorry. We tried everything to make it happen and have finally exhausted all options. Not ideal, sorry.

This room is steadily being ran in to the ground. This event getting canceled plus the recent 1 month banning of a regular 2-5 player because of a rant he posted on FB about the staff are leading indicators of how things are going to be. Very pathetic imo.

Nice, I'm glad I skipped a stop this month to attend this one since I couldn't do both.

Sorry, was in the tournament and could not say much, but we were also told that they are working on having a tournament series in March or April, but that is of course pending OGC approval. On a side note, there were 78 entries in the tournament tonight...bit of a suprise given the cold, and the news about the circuit.

Interesting stuff on the feed of Dan Harkenrider, including a telling conversation with Seth Palansky. Basically, the reason we don't have a series is due to a combination of the State and the Casino.

But, the bottom line is that it's unlikely the WSOPC will return to the state of Ohio unless changes in regulations are made. And THAT is extremely disappointing.

I don't see what changed between the first time the circuit was held and now. Hollywood Casinos in Ohio have no problem running their series. Seems like loosing the poker room manager caused them to frack up the paperwork till it was too late.

Basically incompetence...

Hopefully the whole story will come out. It seems like according to the twitter link that there were concerns about security coverage in the ballroom. Is this not something that could be adressed by installing cameras that could cover enough of the space to satisfy all parties? It does appear that none of the OCC commissioners have any experience with casinos or lottery. There is one gentleman who is a retired police officer. Is this fairly common in other states? I mean it just does not make sense. The governor appointed these people, and all parties would seem to have an interest in making sure that Ohio has these and other events in the ballrooms.

As you stated they are political appointees. From what I understand this is SOP. They do not worry about getting the events into this state. Heck, they even force Ohio $ to go out of state (it is illegal for ANY casino employee to gamble in any casino). If you looked deeply into the OCCC you would probably find that most of what was originally done regarding the laws and regulations was done by a consulting company (with a hefty payday for them).

I was told that Jason's leaving had nothing to do with the event getting cancelled. Whether he was still there or not would not have mattered and I believe them. Since I also heard that one of the reasons he left in the first place was because of continued lack of cooperation and dealings with the Ohio gaming commission. I'm just waiting to see what they do now with our 375k in promotional money. Hopefully cash game promotions that keep the money in room and not give away main event seats with it.

YES!

It really shocks me there is not some type of high promo. Doesn't Columbus do this? If so, I have no clue why they dont do a high hand promotion on top of the crappy bbj promo.

This casino as a whole has gone south, for any previous diamond members who have regained your status? The offers are laughable....I too am ready to quit poker altogether in this state.

The rails on the tables are being held together with tan colored tape. Its a shame such a nice room is being neglected. Hopefully online comes back so none of us have to even go there anymore.

I attended an OCCC meeting, wrote an open letter to them and got a reply. They are a bunch of "overlords" that should have no say in how "private" businesses are ran by "free" people. But alas, we are not free. So sad. #butfreedom

You live in America, there is no such thing as freedom here anymore.
