I heard from a dealer that they got their tournament chips in this week, which he took as a good sign.

The chips have been in for a month or more. They are still waiting for approval of their tournaments by the Ohio gaming commission. It might come tomorrow, it might come in August. Government bureaucracy at it's finest.

I'm home for the first time since the casino finally opened -- was thinking about heading down for a night or two. How are the 2/5 and 5/10 NL games? Having played almost entirely online, I'm curious how they compare to pre-BF online games.

Any live game is going to be much softer than any online game unless you were playing .01/.02. I've only played 2/5 a few times but it's pretty decent. You'll usually have one or two competent grinders, some decent players and at least a couple soft spots. 5/10 NL runs very infrequently. I think it's been 2 or 3 weeks since there's been a game. It usually revolves around two specific action players - one hasn't been seen in a month and the other seems content to play 2/5 now. Without at least one of them it's tough to get a game off. The big game here is 5/10 PLO which runs every Wednesday and Friday. 2/5 NL runs every day, usually 2-4 tables.

Yeah, I read that too on here. I brought it up to the dealer that I read that the chips were received a month ago, but he said he was sure they received em this week. The dealer was Mike B., and he's usually pretty on top of what's going on. He took it as a good sign that things were moving along now.

I've also heard from another dealer that they plan on giving Main Event seats to the winners of some of the tournaments before our circuit.

Cool, thanks for the info. Never got into PLO so I'll probably head over Monday or Tuesday for the 2/5 game.

Have they announced this schedule and has the OCCC actually signed off on the details yet?

If you are asking about the WSOPC schedule, I haven't seen it yet. They have released the dates of the circuit and main events though http://www.wsop.com/news/2013/May/42...-22-STOPS.html

The rake is pretty steep for these tournaments. Now I just need to figure out the best day to try and snipe a main event seat....

I've been looking forward to the weekly tournaments ever since the casino opened up........ and this is possibly the worst schedule for a casual player (or someone like me... 9-5 M-F guy who lives an hour away). No events on Fridays or Saturdays, let alone in the evening when I and the drunk locals would be able to play. This schedule is basically only for poker players and that's it. The Sunday event is the only one I can play, but the high buy in means the bad local players likely won't fork over the $210 to play it. The two 6:30 events are possible, but a deep run means a 9-5 person like me is losing sleep and won't play these frequently. It's nice to have events on the schedule where a large % of the field are the drunks and people who don't play a lot. That makes them a little softer and infuses money into the poker economy. I feel like this will just be poker regulars getting raked and that's it.

I understand that their room is packed Friday and Saturday nights and they don't want to turn off the 1-2 NL players by putting them on huge waiting lists, but this schedule just doesn't do it for me. If they had a non-NLHE event on a Friday/Saturday, they wouldn't lose many tables because not everyone wants to play PLO, PLO8, etc. Back to Hollywood for their tournaments for me (about the same distance from Dayton) but I'll still come to Horseshoe for the LO8.

Disappointed...

My thoughts exactly on this. I've been anxiously waiting for a schedule since the casino opened and this is the best they could do? I'm a 9-5 guy as well so my only option is probably Sundays. I guess the cash game tables are making too much money right now for them to risk Friday & Saturday tournaments.

This is a good sign but it reminds me of the situation in Cleveland. Horseshoe Cleveland was announced in a similar fashion on the WSOP website. But when it came time for the tournament to run it was removed because the OCCC did not sign off on it.

The Hollywood poker room guys just broke open some fine wine to celebrate Horseshoes tourney schedule, structure, and rake. Not really the total death blow to Hollywood that I suspected was coming. This might not be the eventual way Horseshoes runs tournaments in the long run unless they just want to keep it mostly a cash game room for business reasons (understandable).

I figured there would not be a Friday and Saturday night tournament but don't understand what the 6:30 start is for instead of 7. I absolutely hate starting late even just 10 minutes intoa tournament. So the Tuesday Thursday are out for me as I can't get the til 645 ish.

You are spot on here, my friend, but think this tournament schedule and structure gives the Hollywood room tournaments at least a short breather at best. That's about it.

As mentioned above, the Cleveland event was canceled because the casino is shoe-horned into an old department store downtown and they didn't have enough space to accommodate the circuit. The OCCC didn't approve of Horsehoe's proposal to have it outside of the casino and the circuit was dropped for that year.

Cincinnati's casino is its own building with a huge upstairs area for just such an occasion as a circuit. There's no way Cincinnati's circuit will be canceled, and I doubt Cleveland's will be canceled again (or else they would not have put it on the list again this year).

Does the huge upstairs area have the same surveillance that the poker room has? If not there is a chance that OCCC will not sign off on it.

They had a blackjack tournament in the ballroom last week. I can't possibly imagine them doing this unless they had surveillance in there. Casinos generally put cameras everywhere they can.

Wild guess but I'd set the line at 50. I could see anything from 20 - 100 though. Before this place opened the weekday tournaments at Hollywood usually got 30-40 runners.
