Thanks guys,

Snitchbomb, The Vic doesn't have a cooling off period anymore. I rocked up there about 2 months ago with photo ID and was at the tables within 5 mins, so no there is defo no 'cooling off' period.

Texas_Oldham Thanks for the info, I'll be at The Empire over the weekend and will let you lot know how it went and how it compares (IMO) to The Vic. What's The Empire like in the week as i'm tempted to have a midweek game. I finish work at 8 and i'm less than an hour away so I can still have a couple of hours at the table and still not make it a late one for a school night.

Also, I always drive so the beer goggles issue is not a problem

You won't find any fixed limit games in the UK, or most of Europe for that matter.

I've only played at the Empire and the International. From limited time there, Empire seems to be a better place to make money, but the atmosphere/tournaments are better at the International.

Will have to check out the Vic once i get paid--is the rake on the 1/2 5%?

Yes with a 15 pound cap. Ud rather want to play at 1-3 where u pay 6 quid half an hour. Level of play is same as at 1-2 only much deeper stacks..

Jesus. One word: wow!

So that's how he got his bottomless pit of money. Christ.

At empire now. Wasted guy here dropped 3 buyins and keeps reloading. He just called me down on a 79TT2 board (3 clubs) with Kd3c. Awesome.

Texas, I went to what I thought was The Empire but could only see one table of Poker only, so I guess it was the wrong casino. The one I went to was in Leicester Square, where is the one your talking about?

Cheers

Wingnuts, that is the right Empier, what day/time did you go?

I been there early afternoon midweek and there has always been 3 tables running.

Last night about half ten, there was only one table, and it was like a blackjack table; semi-circle with about 7 players, but, it must have been about 3 deep watching and no sign of an orgamised waiting list etc. As you walk in the only table was on the far right against the wall surrounded by 2 or 3 blackjack tables and just the one Hold'em table.

I think i'll try again in the week.... madness

Did you go to the poker room which is right at the back of the casino?

I don't go to the vic anymore. Rake is absurd and games not as soft as in other locations.

International has incredibly juicy plo games and usually good nlhe games, but if it's soft £1/2 or £1/3 nlhe you want, empire is the place to go, and it's nowhere near close.

You can happily shortstack that game, I've turned £50 into £1k+ on several occasions.

I guess not, although I did ask a member of floor staff where the poker room was and he pointed me to this one table to the right. At the far end there was a bar, cashier and stairs up to the first floor.

Strange that I missed the poker room, ohh well as I said there's always next weekend.

Off topic slightly, I'm playing a tourney at the Loose Cannon next Sunday (it's a local pub league regional final) and wondered if anyone plays there or knows anything about it?

Cheers

Hey man. If you'd been inside the empire poker room you would have known about it. Next time make sure you keep asking people til you find the right place. I played on Saturday and somehow managed to hit every flop for two hours and only made £250. Then I lost every pot for two hours and well....

Loose Cannon is an awesome, awesome venue. Fantastic setting and generally cool. How do I know this place?

I actually played there 3 nights a week all January and February in a private game but I managed to lose my invitation because a couple of pricks got mad at me one time. Real shame too because it was a £1/£1 game, usually Holdem but known to be round of each too and played usually about 500 big blinds deep. Guaranteed free money as well due to certain players *thinking* they really are excellent. Who am I to tell them otherwise? I just showed up thrice a week and skimmed off the top to collect 2 or 3 buyins each visit and lose the occasional pot to reinforce these jokers' beliefs that they had tells on me. Actually laughable some of the play from regulars who have a lot of money but they have somehow attracted rich bankers to their game and once we argued they figured why have me there when a drunk banker would happily drop a grand and come back smiling?

Oh and loose cannon cannot host cash games any more after they got busted for operating without a licence. Therefore I'd play the trny and them head to empire after lol

You guys are wrong about 1/3 as much as I hate to see rake games in the Vic. The average stacks I see on 1/3 are between 150 and 400, which is the same as the 1-2 rake game.

If you are a nit, you will not pay more than the £12 hourly it costs to play the 1/3 game. This is £108 coming off for a 9 handed table, the 1-2 table averages £85 in revenue for the vic, but it takes less effort to manage for them, and they can make a bit more if game is wild. (inside info)

The downside of 1-2 is it is a max of 400, while 1/3 has no cap, so obviously if game has moedrately more money and action it can be worth playing.

When i played 1/3 i bought in for £300 and was the shortest stack and about 40-50% of the table would straddle, i dont think it can be called a small nitty game, one guy had a 3k stack and was raising to £25 blind almost every hand, he raised to 30 utg got 3 callers and then called my shove with 8's vs my KK instadouble and a half up tyty
