Was very busy before they closed room right after introducing no limit. Both 2/5 NL and 5/5 NL were excellent games. 20/40 Limit Omaha was also great.

They also have a bus taking people there from pickup points on the eastern end of Toronto. This could save you 10 bucks a trip if my math is right off what the trip is from where I live in the GTA.

I wrote to them about 10 days ago and this is the reply I got from the gaming shift manager:

Thank you for your inquiry. We are very happy to be bringing Live Poker back to Great Blue Heron Casino. While we do not have a firm date for its reintroduction, we believe it will be in the Fall of 2019. We are busy ordering supplies and getting the room ready. Once we have a firm launch date, we will advertise it on our website and let the guests know where there favourite game is.

Thanks for this.

I'm guessing the poker room is part of the current renovations which also include a new hotel. Will definitely be visiting when done.

Any idea how many tables it will be?

Hopefully no more 3 hours wait times.

Jumped on my motorcycle for my last ride of the year yesterday and decided to head up to GBH, as I've not been there since the poker room shut down & figured I'd check out the renos...and grab lunch.

If you've not been up there since the room closed, its completely unrecognizable on the inside. They've added a huge wing to the south-west end of the main pavilion, and the back tent which used to house slots is currently closed & under full reno. The hotel next door is also under full construction.

I walked the whole casino...and it's many of the same games as they always had, but the slots are mixed amongst the table games now, and there's a large new electronic blackjack machine where the poker room used to be. All the decor & amenities are top-notch....just very different from the GBH I once knew.

Bellied up at the resto bar for some lunch & placed my order. It wasn't busy on a Monday...so chatted up the bartender and asked him what he knew about a poker room. His answer was "we are definitely getting a poker room back, as ownership have decided they want to differentiate us from Woodbine & Pickering who won't have poker"...but we're likely not getting it until June next summer at this point."

We chatted some more, and despite the bad news about the June timing, he said a couple of encouraging things, like "The poker room manager is a woman who is a poker player, who plays in Montreal frequently and knows what it takes to make a good room, so when it opens, it should be great". He also said that they were unsure of how many tables at this point. He mentioned there was a small area in the new wing that could fit 6-8 tables and management were considering soft-launching that early 2020 to see what interest there was and then potentially expanding...but he also said that he had heard that there was the potential to turn the whole / most of the back tent (old slot area) into a 30-40+ table room and to become a major poker room and try and attract the likes of a WPT partner to compete with Fallsview & Playground to be a major player....but he admitted these were only things he had heard as rumours amongst staff, and nothing was confirmed. "I guess everyone's just going to have to wait & see!" was his closing remark.

TLDR:
- Poker is coming back to GBH
- Looks like closer to next summer vs. this year
- Could be a small room...or something much bigger
- No one, including staff really have a clue

I spoke with a table manager yesterday who said they will have 10 poker tables running by December 1st.

Who knows.. I’ve heard October November December June 2020 now.

The big shame is Pickering won’t have poker. GBH saves a little bit of travel distance but not much, unless you live on the East end.

^^^Agreed.

The two big takeaways I had were (a) no poker in Pickering...that just seemed like a natural, and (b) after physically seeing GBH, it's coming, but I don't think it's anytime soon. Neither option the bartender mentioned to me even seemed to be started / in progress yet, unless the back tent is the place they're intending to re-open the room.

Hurry up & wait... lol

Maybe bartender was drunk. Judge Smails told me that developer Al Czervik might turn entire property into an amusement park. The judge's nephew Spaulding likes rides.

The back tent/old slot room is where the poker room is going.

can't wait for the reopen... the 1.5-2 hour drive to rama and niagara is so soul crushing for people in the gta. can't help but feel the date is just going to get pushed back again and again though.

anyone here part of a home game that needs players in the mean time? the underground options are all too sketchy for my tastes.

I do but I’m not going to invite a great player into my home game. Anyone with 5k posts is way better than your average 1-2 player at a home game.

The reopen is no big deal unless you live in Eastern part of the GTA. Port Perry might save 15 minutes of driving. Game changer is Pickering to get it.....
