So, i recently moved back to the toronto area and went up to the Heron for the first time last week. I was pleasantly surprised that in the 10 years since i've played there the poker room has expanded from 4 to 12 tables, although it's all still FL owing to gov't regs (max $100 wager anywhere in the casino i think).

Anyway, they were spreading 2 tables of 20-40 FL Omaha Hi. Not something I've ever played, and I didn't sit, but the action seemed to be lively. Seems like it might be a fairly excrutiating game to play, and I can't help but wonder why they don't spread O8 instead. Anybody play there regularly have any insight?

Also, they seem to have switched to plastic chips, which are near impossible to riffle, causing me to realize that riffling chips is one of my favorite aspects of live poker. Oh well.

Out of all the places in the GTA I despise Blue Heron most. I haven't been there in a few years, but I do remember the place was dark, depressing, and full of smoke. Do they still allow smoking inside?

I'd really wish the government would allow places like this and Brantford to start running NLHE. They are saying no to easy money.

No smoking now.
And yes, it's pretty crazy there's no legal place to play NL within an hours drive of toronto.

Agreed Heron Blows...as do all the ontario charity casinos that only offer FL. The Gov't needs to get with the times!

Spread limit at Heron...Hmmm thats interesting...should provide some good entertainment to watch these guys donk off their stacks in just a few hands rather then having it dwindle over numerous hands

It's 2014 and Omaha 20/40 is still going strong with 2 tables on weekends. It's unfortunate they don't have lower limit omaha like 5/10 or 10/20

Any info on their NLH tournaments? What days do they run and typically what are the buy ins? It's not far from my house, but I'm not a limit player and would only go for the tournaments

Any updated info on their cash games? Is 5/10 still the lowest LHE they'll run? Any info on the traffic, the competition etc?

I played at Blue Heron in January when I was working there. The games sucked IMO, then again, I didn't play for long. However, their blackjack tables are soooo money tho.

Does anybody happen to be interested in buying my tournament ticket for the $330 Deep Stack this Wednesday 10:30 AM? I won first place two tournaments in a row, but can't make it on Wednesday and will have to cancel my ticket by Sunday.

Still thinking about checking this place out (have a new project in Canada coming up). Any updates?

The best time to go is on tournament Wednesdays. The last one on March 4 sold out, and all 11 tables were busy. As each tournament table broke, there were a lot of cash game players eagerly waiting to fill it up.

If you fill out a survey in their website, you get $15 free play. #BaccaratIsRigged!

I've always turned my nose up at limit games and thought they were stupid.

Recently I decided to have a change of pace and play a 3/6 full kill FL Omaha game. I had a great time and the players mostly seemed terrible, making mistakes you would never see in a PLO or NL game. So I had a good time, played a couple of times, and the result was a modest but meaningless profit as well as an interesting and fun time.

As a result I no longer turn my nose up at Limit games and am having a new attitude towards them and am making it a 2016 side project to become a strong limit player.

FL Omaha seems to inspire 8 way pots and ridiculous (though small in this case) dead money. It seems to put most players on tilt.

I'm going to put in some hours at this game, and maybe someday I'll get to play it at some higher stakes like at GBH.

I love PLO but never play it live because I'm not rolled for it and can't handle the crazy swings even if I was. I've been tempted to give fl omaha hi a shot but it's hard to find at levels I can afford. I think it would be fun.

The game I turn my nose up at is anything with a hi lo split. I think its clearly invented by the casinos just to generate more rake and tips and don't understand why anyone would take it seriously.

The CNE Casino tried Limit Omaha this year and it usually had long waiting lists, so it will probably be back with more tables in the summer.

I was in town when that was going on in 2014 but missed it. If I'm around in 2016 I hope to get the chance to check it out, most of what I heard about it (the whole exhibition not just the casino) was that it was awesome.

FINALLY! I got out there and played!

Nothing negative to say. Beautiful casino. Cheerily decorated. When I got there at about 6:15pm there was already a waiting list for 5/10LHE but I got a seat and was seated playing by 6:45. The tables have 10 seats - that's unusual for me - I don't think I've ever seen a casino with 10-seat tables. The game was very soft - 4 to 6 people limping into every pot and chasing to the river, rarely betting without at least top pair, cold-calling raises in 3 spots etc. Clearly people were there to gamble, not play poker, as evidence by that lucky flop feature they have - you can place a bet before the hand and if the total on the flop is 18, 19 or 21 you get 2 to 1 or 3 to 1 on your money, and if the flop is 678 suited you get 150 to 1 on your money. People were actually placing those bets!

By about 8:30 my 5/10 table was down to 5 people and there was no waiting list. They did have a 5/10 kill table - I avoided that because I'm bankroll challenged but I don't like to play shorthanded, so I moved to a 5/10 kill table that had one open seat - much happier with 10 people at the table. THAT game was even softer than the 5/10 non-kill game! Every pot was huge!

I highly recommend it to fixed-limit hold'em players - I had a great time.

This isn't actually that uncommon.

PLO in Vancouver (Edgewater) is played 10 handed (as are all poker games) and I played FL Omaha in Edmonton and that was also 10 handed.

Almost all the casinos I've played in Ontario, US, Europe and Philippines have 10-seat tables. The few exceptions I recall include cash games at Caesars Palace, or tournaments converting from 10 to 9 late in the day.

I am thinking of moving to the area, are higher limits (10/20 and 20/40) running daily or are they the exception?
