You should have read some of the NEGATIVE reviews I have posted here over the years. This one was just kind of stating facts.

Anyway -- theres lots of things I like;
--12-24 Mixed Game at Aria,
--$4 rake in St Louis,
--Mason's annual 2+2 party,
--Horseshoe in Tunica.

Theres just a lot NOT to like about poker in Illinois casinos.

changing a bunch of the dumb rules is a nice footnote but the rake is what needs to be changed and never will be. the 10% up to $8 is enough on it's own. they need to stop raking for preflop, it's pretty disgusting.

on the bright side icehaze is a really cool guy. other than that, there are a few dealers here who misread 1/5 hands and constantly mess up and misunderstand the betting/action. call me crazy but i think when you are raking $20k a day or w/e the hell it is you can afford to fire them and train some people to be able to read

1010

on a 259KQ board

as a flush and not a pair of 10s

it's also ridiculous that - even on a 70 degree day - i know i have to bring a jacket here because its always frigid and in the basement. $20k/day, probably can't afford a space heater

Reasons why GVC Poker Room is the worst in America:

1. $8 rake. No, there is no jackpot.
2. A board that only shows 10 names.
3. A board that does not indicate if players are call-ins.
4. No cell phones allowed anywhere in the card room.
5. Only 2 games offered : 1-2 and 2-5 NL.
6. A 300 max for $2-5.
7. You have to drop off your Player's card before playing, and then remember to pick up the card when leaving, having often to wait through another line.

Though I work in Elgin, I will drive to Milwaukee or Gary instead to enjoy a real poker room with 21st century rules.

This is by far the worst poker room in America, I haven't been to every poker room there is but I do know that it cannot be worse then Elgin.

U also forgot to mention no hoodies (I like that rule but it's ridiculous to not allow someone to wear a hoodie...)

No headphones, No cell phones, not only is the rake $8 for 1/2 but they rake preflop even if there is no flop... Also, the buy-in is only 300 for 2/5 and it has some of the worst dealers ever. 60 year old foreign women from Europe who can't speak english and can't read the board. And there is no BBJ or any kind of promotion with an $8 rake. The floor is terrible on decision making. Extremely long wait times to play.

The only positive is that the quality of play is horrendous. There is not a single good player in the room, its 100% loose-passive fish.

Overheard at Elgin this week:

Our table was playing 6 handed, so we had the rake reduced from the ungodly $8 to $5. A guy at the table behind me called over the floorperson Joe.

Player: "What's the rake for 4 people?"
Joe: "There are seven spots here."
Player: "But three are at dinner. What's the rake for 4 people?"
Joe (seemingly annoyed): "EIGHT DOLLARS!"

At which point the four remaining players picked up their chips and the table closed.

Not bad, you got 3 of 7 right.. but forgot the most important, games are so soft and action is fantastic.board shows all names with call ins listed. They deal any Hold em you want and you never have to turn in your card its up to you. Been playing there since they opened and since they fired the lady who ran it things are getting changed slowly but at least they are changing. All you cry babies go to Horseshoe, leave all the fish to me. I play during the day and we dont run into these things, they only allow 2 people on lunch at a time Big Orange so do you have most of that post wrong also ? The guy running the room now plays alot of poker and is trying to get things fixed including the rake. hope he can make the GM see things from a poker players perspective. Go Get Em Big Joe

Nice first post, Joe.

I love your comment that "you don't have to turn in your card its up to you." You are so right, sir. If you do not want the generous 50 cents an hour, you do not have to turn in your card. But if you do want that comp, you do have to turn in your card and then wait to get it back at the end of the night.

That usually involved pulling you away from a conversation about the White Sox, Joe.

Exactly which statement were inaccurate, Joe? When was the last time you spread Omaha there? Or 10/20 limit? Or 10/20 No Limit?

The only board that shows call ins in the one in the room itself. The boards on display throughout the entire casino--that is, the vast majority of the boards--list only part of the list and no call ins.

nobody ever characterize the action here as fantastic ever again. i swear on my life i just witnessed the following hand at 1/2

a reg opens to $12 in early position
a fish 3 bets to $25 from blinds
reg calls

K86

check, check

K

check, check

4

check, check

care to take a guess what the hands were?

Spoiler:
fish: AK, reg: AK

do not tell me the action is fantastic.

Get on the list for 2/5 if you're looking for action. Even with the good and bad it's a very profitable place to play. There's really not many grinders playing here. Especially during the night time.

They got 5/10 running the other day and I swear some of the players couldnt even read the board. One dude called off a $500 river raise with 54 on KK55Q against KQ and started going on about how he got rivered. Didn't even seem out of the ordinary to everyone.

No I dont work there,Just get sick of here all you cry babies all day at the tables with nothing to say, so you start complaining about the room, Horseshoe this horshoe that, do GVC and myself a favor and stay at horseshoe! You will have plenty of time to complain while sitting in traffic. I personally have road rage and think all the rules of the road suck but the state told me to park my car and quit driving if I dont like it.Nobody will listen to my complaints at the DMV.All Im saying is there are rules all over that have to be followed but nobody complains like poker players..Why is that? Start a thread on that. Oh by the way my brother just called from GVC, the poker manager just came to the poker room and posted all new buy-ins for the NL games 2/5=200 to 500, 5/10=500 to 1500 and a 2/3 with 100 to 300
1/2=50 to 200..sounds like he is getting somewhere with managment and the gaming board.

Did you ever think all the complaining might have at least sparked those changes if not causing them altogether? Id love to know who you are. Probably one of the terrible 2/5 regs

Complaining did not up the buy ins.
Plain and simple new management did. The plates were made up very shortly after the new room manager took over. He delayed putting them out and upping the buy ins because he wasnt sure on whether it was a good idea.
He finally decided to make the change but customer complaints werent the reason. If they were it wouldve happened six months ago when he first took over.

Complaining did get one changed implemented lately.
If you flash your hand to anyone, it will be exposed.
Its standard to show any card exposed to anyone in the hand, immediately.
But now lets say 3 players take a flop. A bets,B calls, and C folds but flashes his hand to player D who is not in the hand. This hand is now to be exposed once the hand is over.

It gets tapped on the muck pile and set to the side to be exposed to enforce the 'Show 1 Show all' rule.

That to my knowledge is the only thing that has been changed due to player complaints.

Most unbelievable thing happened here today. I drive to Elgin instead of going to the shoe because I'm from the burbs and can only play till 7. I walk up to security and hand him my passport. I'm 24 years old and I'm driving on a speeding ticket. The security says he can't let me in because I'm under 25, wtf? I protest and demand to talk to a manager.. I have my ticket my passport credit cards and even my FOID card which is a state issued ID (fire arms identification card) the manager tells me nothing he can do and says if I don't leave they will escort me to my car.... Yeah wont ever take my business back here... LOL
