Elgin is the worst casino in IL. 8 dollar rake and they rake preflop the dealers are awful besides 2-3 of them. The floor is mean and is never open to change. I stopped going there bc of all of this. Trust me make the drive to horseshoe whatever is closer to u its well worth it

i just played here a few weeks back. was with 20 other degenerates for a bachelor party on a tour bus on our way back from Madison, WI when we all thought it would be a good idea to stop here. this place seemed alot bigger than my typical poker room hangout (hollywood), and had alot more tables going. but i just couldn't get over the buy-in limits for 2/5. I had brought a rack of redbirds over and sat in the game and was immediately scolded by half the table. right then and there i knew i was at the right place. play was sub-par at best and i scored a quick rack within just an hour and a half before the bus was taking off. i probably would go back, but definitely not on the regular.

GVC needs to read this thread and change things. First the rules are ridiculous no gum, no hoodies, no cell phones (get yelled at to check the time haha.). Second the buy-ins are so far off a terrific soft game at 9pm-6pm on the weekend but if you haven’t been there all day grinding and can only buy in for 300 then GL when the tables average stack sizes are over 1k. Third the annoying slots in the basement, they obv have a large traffic for poker ever since they opened February 18th 2009 and if they cleared the machines and made the basement full of say 20 tables it would be a very nice poker room and after they promoted it I bet dollars to dimes it would fill and become one of the best places to go outside of horseshoe. And D they need to reward/respect the poker players more, they finally got a promotion down there for high hand leaderboard tournament which there is no explanation of how it works or estimated prizes after asking multiple pit bosses. If they made these changes this would be a great room.

Yes I know it is and not a single if will change. Has been requested hundreds of time the past 2 years and players never get action to be taken place by Pokerroom. That is why this room will never become good. Was just venting the potential that is here.

Yea i was at CCG then Hollywood, now good ole gvc.

I have to agree with Ryno, there are a bunch of things that could be changed but they never will. At times it seems like they dont even want a pokerroom.

In IL a seat at a poker table counts as a "gaming position". GVC is limited to a certain number of positions and does not want poker to burn up too many of those since poker is the least profitable for the casino. Same reason you wont see poker at the Rivers any time soon. That rule needs to be changed before poker will get any better in IL. I actually pass GVC by 20 min into my trip to play in Hammond. Far but worth it!

Yes.

Don't forget, they also rake preflop. ( ex: raise, call, call, all-in, everyone folds might get raked $8* depending on the raise size )

*Plus they are taking an additional $1 for their current promotion. Earn points for full house or better. Player w/ the most points from morning to close earns a seat at a 10 handed tournament with guaranteed money for everyone.

So if you can't play long enough ( to make lots of big hands ) to qualify for the tournament, essentially it's a $9 rake!

If I am not mistaken, there is no gum chewing at the table either.

that is just absolutely disgusting and I'd simply rather not ever play. IMO its just criminal to take that kind of rake

played here yesterday. i was on the 1/2 list, but they had a seat open for 2/5 so played that for a couple minutes before getting my 1/2 seat. i bought in for $500, and was instantly told i can only buy in for $300. lolwhat.

the 1/2 games are juicy, and u can buy in for full. bunch of limping, a lot of lol lines some players take. tons of min-mid stackers that keep rebuying.

took the supervisor about 3 hours before he told me to spit out my gum.

there was also a player who was taking chips off the table. he just won big back to back hands, and im guessing he pocketed anywhere around $200-$300, and kept around $150-$200 on the table. i didnt notice until some other player asked him what he did with those chips. he didnt speak english that well, and when he was asked if he lost a big hand, he answered with a yes. he never lost big after those 2 big back to back hands. can't believe dealers didnt notice or the players next to him.

also to gv regs, stop berating fish seriously. ur really not that great yourself. buncha live poker pro wannabes at this place.

Do these guys get it? Both Elgin and Aurora are losing players to the Horseshoe every day because of the rake and
sshi tttay rules.
I won't set foot in either of these places because my poker experience is more enjoyable in Hammond.

@number1 hater

GVC is juicy with a bunch of old retirees and a few regs there but yeah I rather play at hammond where you can talk to another player and also dealers are better
gvc is crazy and prob will close soon .....rumor

One of the young regs who plays 2-5 here was telling me how he makes $600 a day at GV. I asked how long that has been going on for, he claimed over a year. I lol'd to myself and said you must be running great? He said, no not really just outplaying donkeys. Ok. Buddy
Grand Victoria Casino (Elgin, IL) Quote

yes sounds about right 600 a day is only 4200 a weeks or 220k a year thats a standard win in a game that has a max of $300 a 10% up to $9 dollar rake and that also rakes preflop. I love there promotion cant they just be a normal casino and give a 50k to start bad beat and take 5+1. I enjoy the shoe Majestic joliet not elgin. Let the regs keep paying $9 dollars a hand
