Cause they havd no where else to play. This room has the worst rules some of the worst dealers in the world. Don't get me wrong they have some good ones but it is crazy to me at how some of them make it into the box. List goes on

This just happened last Friday night, $1/2 table, female dealer (won't mention names):

Final board, AT662. Check, check, dealer says, "Let's see em, guys." Player A tables AK, player B tables A2. Dealer looks for a second, drags the pot to player B with A2. Table says "Whoa, whoa, the deuce doesn't count, it's Aces and sixes," dealer says, "No...OH wait, you're right, Aces and sixes," and starts CHOPPING THE POT. We're like, "Uh, NO, Ace-King wins," she's like "OOOHHH, right!"

Sorry to make you sound stupid, dude, but yeah, pots get swung to the wrong player.

Nice try though, get over yourself. Thanks for playing.

So, the pot was given to the correct player?
That's not all that uncommon.
They're not perfect, but no one is losing money because of poor dealers. The table always seems to make sure of that, and this is my point.

In YOUR defense though, I must share this hand I had recently at 2-5, new-ish dealer almost cost me $125. I rivered a fairly disguised nut straight (Disguised due to the betting, not the board), I bet $125 from seat 2 and seat 9 is thinking about it and the dealer wipes away his cards onto another pair of mucked cards and seat 9 is like "WHAT ARE YOU DOING?" I feared they were mucked, but she slides em both back to the guy who thinks about it for a bit then makes the call. He didnt show, and I wonder how much the dealer almost mucking his cards away made him want to call more than he would have had it not happened.

So, maybe I'm just more lenient on the dealers, maybe more than I should be.

After taking a trip to Vegas I came back loving the "no devices" rule.
When devices are allowed you have about 5 guys at the table who have no idea it's their turn to act, they dont know what the action is on them, some dont even know they have cards . . . it slows the game down tremendously.

It's like playing by yourself until the dealer hits the table in front of the person who is not mentally there for the umpteenth time. Trust me, you want to use devices for a short bit to check texts, but if you open that door you literally have millenials watching movies at the table. Some will say that's an edge for those not using their devices but I assure you it's not, they just slow the game down to a crawl. Then they have to take a minute to figure out WTF is going on and start from scratch.

Personally I'd prefer a "must move game" at 2-5 for during the week

Also I'd prefer if on busier days tables could be more easily re-organized so if some 2-5 guys want to all straddle they can all be sent to the same table. I'm not big on straddling but I also dont like to be one of two guys out of nine spoiling the other 7 guys table. And yes, I table change when it's clear that's what the table wants.

So what's the craziest/funniest thing you've seen at GVC tables?

Off the top of my head, at 2-5 a 5-10 guy sits down and buys in for $500, he open pushes all in pre-flop from early position. A guy who had built up a $1500 stack with wild play calls. The board runs out and the 5-10 guy says, I got the nuts and turns over A10 offsuit for the straight.

The loser silently mucks his hand and racks up giving back half his profit in an instant and after he left, the whole table just laughed like, "wow! are you kidding me?"

Another time a guy (young and dumb guy) was getting into it with a fairly laid-back guy on the opposite side for a few hands in a row. They went back and forth a bit and started to argue and then this happened . . .

Young dumb guy sucked out a flush and says, "finally, I hit that, man! do you know how hard it is to hit a flush draw?"

and a dude next to him (we'll call him "white guy") goes, "uh, ya, 1 in 3, that's the math"

Well, young and dumb guy goes off and says, "NOOOOOO! Some days you never hit the flush and other days you hit em all"

white guy says, "sure, but that doesnt change the odds of you hitting"

young dumb guy says, "yes it does!"

white guy laughing "so the math of the cards change depending on the day?"

young dumb guy "yes! it depends"

white guy shaking his head, "so the odds of a fixed deck of cards changes from day to day?"

young dumb guy "I work in finance, I know what I'm talking about!"

white guy looks at the dealer who is trying not to laugh and says, "uh dealer, wanna tell this guy what my job is?"

dealer, "he's a math teacher"

young dumb guy "that doesnt mean ANYTHING!"

Whole table starts laughing

Man, how I love the GVC, always a good story to tell

Howdy,

Going to be in town (Wonder Lake, IL) for a fantasy draft in Aug and was wondering if this is the closest room or if there is another place. What are the in/outs of this joint?

1. Max/Min Buyin?
2. Actual cards or electronic?
3. Shufflers or dealer?
4. Overall Player Pool? good/bad?
5. 2/5 run here?

Thanks

Standard buy-ins $50-$200 for 1/2
$200/$500 for 2-5
actual cards (it is a legit casino)
real dealers (though that has been a topic of controversy here )
player pool varies. 1/2 is mostly tight passive, 2/5 has a bit of everything, especially on weekends,
GVC has the most 2/5 tables in the state, you have to go to the Shoe (Indiana) to find equal or more 2/5 tables. Wed and Fri the 2/5 tables are even looser due to the 5/10 players that show up

If you go into Wisconsin you may have to deal with people who smoke inside. That's a dealbreaker for me. The smell makes me wanna puke, even when they go outside and come back and sit at the table oblivious to the fact they reek and everyone knows it but them.

thanks for the info! by default I was driving to the Shoe when visiting family in Schaumburg, IL

for some reason I thought this was a casino on a boat.. which I went to once only to find out they didn't have poker and the room I was calling was not the same place that I drove to.. that sucked.

Fun fact: all illinois casinos are on top of water. When Rivers was built, they actually built what is essentially a hidden in ground pool under the gaming floor so they can still call it a riverboat.

I live just outside of Elgin and played last Friday and this past Monday. I agree with the post above.
Pros: 10 min from home
Small bags of ruffles

Reasons I will not play there any longer:
Cons: $7+1 rake (10%)
Comps: $0.50/hr
Bottled water: $2.00
Room temp lunch meat Sandwiches with mystery meat
$200 max buy in at 1/2nl
Angle shooters
Short stackers galore
Games are 9 handed then mysteriously go to 10 handed during late nigh hours with lists
No electronic devices
Poor dealers

Hammond at 1.5hr or Poto at 2hr away are much more enjoyable with better action, more tables and multiple food options

The 2/5 games are usually soft enough here to warrant going to. The 1/2 games are horrible though. The BBJ is up to 150k so I'll probably be going this weekend if it doesn't hit.

I do agree with that list though

They're human and there's other people's money involved so sometimes they may get flustered for a moment, but seriously, you'd think the people complaining here lost 1000s of dollars a few different time due to dealer error. When I start to see pots swung to the wrong player maybe I'll care.

Get over yourselves.

And no, I don't work for GVC in any capacity. Just someone with a clue

I have always wanted to check this site out and I am surprised as hell to see this many people comment on things they have no idea about. I was in the casino business 45 years before retiring and can assure you GVC has there hands tied. Your gaming board is the worst in the industry, we used to make a joke in Vegas that when you get fired they send you to IL to work. Whoever is running that room is in a no win situation. The person is stuck between two evils,. IGB and corporate. Any poker room that has dealers sharing tips will have good, bad , and in between dealers. Any room sharing tips will have this mix of dealers. Its a business and if you don't like it don't go. Do you go eat at a place you hate? I happen to know the gentleman running that room and you will never get a guy that has a pokers players back like Joe, I have never been in the room but from what I have read hear today, most of you are so off base that it is sad. I surely wouldn't comment on something I have no idea about and that is what I see hear. Go have fun and play poker. Buy the way, I play at 4 different casinos and nobody offers free sandwiches and chips in their rooms, you guys complain about free food? Shame Shame Shame, I would love to see the new owners close the room and send you all to Indiana. See what they feed you.

I'm curious what makes you think IGB is somehow responsible for whatever it is you don't like about the GVC poker room. The state doesn't write the game rules, that's up to the individual casinos.
