At the end of a siege of second best hands I was out on losses and another $100 on the drop. So I believe a rake in the long run is less costly. True, if I win a $100 pot I'm only getting back $90, but it is a winning hand. Rake or drop, if I walk away from the table a winner for the day I'm not thinking too much on the 'green's fee' I paid for a safe, secure game. Thank you.
If they are charging $10 drop vs $10 half hour time rake it is all about how many hands are being played. If you are playing about 30 hands a hour the casino is taking $300 off the table vs $180. Now at 1/3 they might not be taking off that much but at 2/5 or 5/10 you will generally hit max rake. There are a few other reasons time rake is better though. One, raked game incentivize tighter play. If there is money taken out of the pot you have less reason to defend your blind or steal the blinds. Secondly, if you are playing a game that gets short often you will be paying even more in rake. Finally, time rake encourages faster play. If someone is taking too long you can say come on we are paying time rake and usually they will speed up.

That said, the rumor I heard is the rake at Rivers will be 6+1 which would be great.

Rumours of 6+1 and also rumours of $10 lol, of course.

I was at GVC tonight, 2 tables away from me half the table went nuts including the (rookie) dealer thinking the BBJ had been hit, but it was KK vs AcAx on KcKxQcJcTc, obv doesn't qualify.

Guy at my table was most amused.

Am here again, theyve expanded the room. Moved a bank of slots out and put two more rows of tables in opposite end to the desk. Prob 6-7 more tables?

Gonna be interesting when Rivers opens in a fortnight lol

Turns out they've spread the tables out a bit so only a few more, still good though

The Bravo app says “electronic devices are now permitted at the poker tables”

Is this just phone or are headphones now allowed, too?

Not a lot to say really, I went a couple of weeks ago but Rivers is much closer and a much better room imo, with much more pleasant clientelle for the most part too.

May not be discussed in here, but we know. Have that casino as "saved destination" on my car's GPS - "Options": No tolls (highways)!

According to social media, the $500k+ bad beat hit on June 15. I'm jealous.

Restarted: $169,138.20 today. Very nice. Wish I were closer. I feel like I am going a trip, when I go there.

Any idea where in the casino they'll host the WSOPC? Do they have a ball room or venue center?

They do have meeting rooms upstairs (I went to a Bar Mitzvah there years ago), but someone who has visited it recently think they're converting the space from the now-closed buffet for this WSOP event.

Yeah there are signs all over the place saying "WSOP room" along the corridor as you go in. I thought that part wasn't technically on the boat and thus they couldn't legally allow gambling on it though, but who knows.

I've seen the signs too and my first thought is it is no where near big enough. Just comparing it to when wsop is at the venue inside horseshoe.

It just doesn't seem to me that elgin is even close to big enough...unless they are really going to limit the size of the fields.

It sorta sucks to be Elgin with no real room to expand.

I'm old enough to have gone there when it actually left the dock and went out ~ 20 feet. I think I went there once because it was dumb - I wanted to leave and the 'cruise' was like 3 hours long.

When I went there last weekend the dealers were saying that the buffet was going to be converted into the new poker room. For the WSOPC I would assume they would likely use other auxiliary spaces along with that room. Not sure if they’re planning to run poker in the basement while the new room is built out or if they’ll need to shut down.

When the govt smells money to be made, they just change the laws.
It's embarrassing.
Is Rivers even on water?
Or did they make a puddle underneath it to keep it "off land"?

I've played in that "basement" for the past 10 years and it's been a huge part of my life, filling in time so I'm not bored and lonely at home and going stir crazy. It's sad to see the collapse of the player base the past month.

People will say rivers took their players, but I've played at Rivers a few times and maybe one or two people per table are Elgin regs, so it's not that.

Even after the $500k bbj hit, the jackpot was at $166K which normally would be massive and yet it still struggled to keep a fraction of the player pool.

Maybe everyone was burned out from trying to hit that massive jackpot?

But now, less than 5 tables going throughout the week is sad. How did it happen so fast? Rivers has been open for what 4 months now?

I wonder if the new room in the buffet is gonna be a ton of money wasted by Caesar's. That company is very tight fisted so the fact they poured as much money as they are into this was suprising to being with. The entire bottom floor has been poker for a few months now and the buffet area too? Yikes.

This may turn out to be a huge blunder if things dont go back to how they were.

Friday and Saturday nights were like a guys man cave party night with lists 50 people deep. As long as you didnt play with money that mattered it felt far more like a party than some sort of cutthroat poker competition.

I just really hope it's not the end of an era. I mean, I've played rivers 4 times now and it's a prettier room, but if you're a 1-3 or 2-5 player, acting like it's some sort of massive upgrade from Elgin is ridiculous. If you were a frustrated PLO wannabe player and never got to at GVC I get it, Rivers is heaven on earth for you. Otherwise, it's poker in a brighter, bigger, prettier room, big deal. The people there are no different, if anything the people there dont really know each other yet so the tables are quieter and less social. People walk into GVC and they would tour the room saying hello to all their friends, none of that happens in Rivers, YET. I know, it'll evolve there over time.

Still blows my mind that you'd have literally 200 people in a room on a weekend night and couldnt get a PLO game going at GVC, then Rivers opens up and they have two tables of it going almost 24-7. Where did these people come from?

Maybe when the buffet room opens up and football comes back the room will return to its former glory.

Ways they could encourage people to return would be stop making a double whiskey neat be $12 or beers be $6. We know that's like 100% pure profit. We'd drink more if the price for two wasnt equal to an entire bottle or 12 pack across the street. If people have a few more drinks, they will have more fun and everyone is happier than sitting at a table of stone cold sober silent types nut-peddling for the BBJ. Also, end the bad beat jackpot and just have a payout for high hands, (I know this will never happen since the room was bursting as the BBJ got over $200K but still) or no extra rake for promos at all. Ending the BBJ would also loosen the games up. Too many people folding all but flamingos pre Ya, ya, I know you can scoop up endless small pots that way but it still makes for brutally boring poker.

How many dealers are gonna leave for Rivers, since they went from needing 15 dealers at all times to needing half that most of the week? Those dealers need hours. I saw one dealer already switch, he was getting shown the ropes on his orientation day I guess.

I totally get what u said. I played last week and there was only 1 1-3 and 1 2-5 going at midnight. People leaving to go to rivers when the list was 20÷. But I get it this room is done. They have noting to draw us poker players to come back and play. They are now advertising a dollar for comps lol big deal. $14 for the worst deil sandwiches ever. The string of dealers last week was the worst I have seen in my almost 20 years playing live. I use to love playing here u could always find a juicy game but not anymore. Bunch of people playing boring poker with the worst dealers around atleast at night. I have yet to play at Rivers because I only play a few times a month if that so I don't want to just sit around and wait. Hopefully the new room does something for this place but I believe they just wasted a ton of money for noting..

Pretty sure I got a serious bout of food poisoning from one of those sandwiches. Had me miss 2 days of work. Was so bad that every time I now walk past "Crave Deli" (lol) I get a visceral nauseous reaction.

Will be interesting to see what happens if the WSOP room opens soonish, wonder if anything changes.
