Just confirmed that John Colville is out as poker room manager over there.

Anyone know anything about this?

No ... but this would explain why a bunch of positions opened up there recently, namely poker room manager.

It's in downtown/old Vegas, right? Is it possible that many of the regulars there are middle-aged or elderly and therefore have less than perfect vision?

I'd be interested in hearing more about why you think it is and what would make it worth a trip downtown next time I'm in Vegas.

I played there last time I was in Vegas in June. NL games are uncapped and play much bigger than 1/2. Good action, comfortable-hidden gem in my opinion.

Well, yes, that was also my impression when I played there. It's a 1/2 game, make no mistake, but it plays relatively deep, at least in the right pots, some shortstacks also. Age average is higher than some casinos on the strip but it's not a seniors show, at least not at night, never played during the day. Many middle-aged, some locals. Also the room has a nice deco and feel to it. Def worth a small detour occasionally, given that it's just a few minutes away from the strip.

Played there three days/evenings in a row last week.

Very enjoyable, deep stacks.

One night two whales and mammoth pots.

One night a wild and crazy guy.

They splash one pot at one table every Monday night when either football team scores - $50 for a field goal, $100 for a touchdown, $200 for a safety. They draw to see which table gets the splash.

Friendly action.

Met some friendly locals as well.

Can be nitty and can be great.

Easily the best room downtown on Fremont

That's like bragging about being the tallest of three dwarves.

I do like GN, especially the uncapped buy-in. It was easily the best 1/2 game in Vegas as of my last visit (2016). Almost never got anything bigger though. I did play 2/5 there once, but it was one table with a couple of seats open while something like 8 full 1/2 tables were going, as well as some lol-limit.

yeah nice bump. I play most of my Vegas poker at GN. Nice room...and as mentioned, the 1/2 can get real fun.

I played this morning and I’ve never seen a table like that for a 1/2 NL game. Literally every single pot in the hour played was over $100 preflop. One crazy Asian went all in ore for $500 with 10,Q and got a caller (who had him covered). And that wasn’t even the craziest bet of the past 10 minutes. I won $150 and then got up as I wasn’t comfortable with that variability my last day in Vegas.

Anyone have a post-COVID read on this place? Seem to have 4-6 tables most nights, appear to still be uncapped (per Bravo)

Still uncapped.
Their limit game has gone to 3-6, from old school 2-4.
Not much else has changed. The Duke still shows up, stacks can get terribly unbalanced. I honestly feel that, on average, games are a bit more nittier than ever here. Regs do not want to cannibalize each other, and tourist pickings have been slimmer.

I have always felt that if you have an uncapped game, the much better players have a decided edge. Which is great if you are a good player. Trouble is, bad players start avoiding the room, and go to more friendly environs. I don't see the room changing, however. They wear their "uncapped" label as a badge of honor, and market it as such on Bravo and web.
How many more customers would they get for a 1-2 200/300 max, and then a 1-3 or 2-5 larger cap/uncapped? We may never know.
Grand Poker Series starts soon. Used to be a lot of fun, mixed games, now 50/50 between mixed and hold'em. I'll pass. Used to be some of the best one-day Horse/stud /omaha MTTs anywhere. Now its....not

Thanks. Went tonight (Saturday night). 13 tables going, mostly 1/2 with some 2/5 and 2 3/6 limit tables. All uncapped.

My 1/2 table was relatively tame - could be the crazy folks are playing 2/5.

Heading out to Vegas in the beginning of Aug staying at the "D" . Looks like the nugget is the only option on Fremont Street currently?

Just came back from Vegas after staying at "The D" for a week and I'll say the Nugget is alive and well. No tournaments but a great room in a great casino. The no max buy in is a plus and as far as I know it's the only room in Vegas that you can still have 100 dollar bills in your stack.
