I've always assumed that c.a. did that during summer to maintain the jp pool due to slower business.

I barely ever play in the jp games at CAZ, but I've never seen them do this. Always 4/1. Might be something new or something I missed. Where did you get this info?

My eyeballs, ldo. They've been doing it for years and years, ask any dealer.

They have an obsession with maintaining a large jp pool so in the summer, when there are fewer games, they go to 3&2.

So what's the consensus on the various casinos in the Phoenix area? Casino Arizona is the best one? Any reason to play anywhere else?

If you're visiting town, and can only play at one, your best bet is probably Casino Arizona - in that it offers a wider selection of games at nearly any hour of the day and it serves better food.

As a resident, I now strongly suggest that you try the new Gila and see if you like the play and feel of the room better and make a decision based on your experiences.

Harrah's is a possibility if you want to play 3-6 LHE or 3-6 LOE and enjoy earning Harrah's points -- otherwise, stick to what's above.

Impromptu visit #2 this past Sat night was more pleasant than my first experience the Fri of Thanksgiving wkd. While the floor person didn't even know how many 8/16 games were going, and I still had to wait/listen to numerous names on the list getting called out & passed over because by the time the person was called s/he was playing something else or had left, I got in a game about 30 mins later and didn't witness nearly the same delays with the chip runners, set-ups, service, and frustrated workers. My only "complaint" was that even on a Sat night, among the 30 or so players I saw between the 2 tables, less than a handful were players I didn't recognize. I MAYBE play once every 2 1/2 months, and was hoping that on a Sat night there'd be more touristy action, but it wasn't to be.

As it was, the game was extremely tight and a far cry from the splash fest I played in the first time. Still an enjoyable time, though, and I'll continue to support the room.

Going to be in town for the fiesta bowl next month, is there any not ******ed tournaments to play in the phoenix area? Also, when you guys mention omaha in the AZ threads ive read through, are you talking about limit H/L or actual PLO games? Im experienced with PLO and LHE as well as NL tournaments and i'm just trying to figure out where/when/why to play and i dont feel like making my own thread. Saturday/Sunday will be my main poker playing days, possibly late night friday as well.

We don't have PLO because there is a $500 betting limit here. (as far as I know)

The juice in the tournaments at CAZ is ridiculous. Not sure if there is anything better anywhere else, but I never play the tourneys because they take SOOOO much out of the prize pool. CAZ has some kind of a deeper stacked tourney Wednesday nights I think that you might want to check out if you're looking for the best value you can find?

The $8/$16 Hold'em games have been pretty tight has of late, at least during the day/early evening. Honestly, the $4/$8 Omaha game might be the best in the house right now. People sitting with $500+ stacks, playing every hand. Like it!

I'll probably be there this Sat night, role-playing a Scottsdale wanna-be douchebag heading to the club. That'll add a new dimension to the game that I have yet to see in the 12 hrs or so that I've been there.

What is the Saturday $115 tourney at Fort McDowell like? Players? Juice? Is the structure not super awful?

Two more sessions for me on Fri & Sat nights. The room was lively both evenings, IMHO. The games were also much looser than my previous session. My table actually got into a straddle fest and it totally changed the dynamics of the game and threw the tight players entirely off their games.

Service all the way around seemed to be improved, although people continue to be peeved over no free drinks, absolutely ridiculous alcohol prices, and some room rules that have been the standard for WHP for eons. Lots and lots of references to CAZ whenever a sour topic comes up, which I always find humorous.

The structure is too good. It's a great way to kill an afternoon if you're not worried about making any money.

They usually get about 125 players and pay top 20 with 11-20 getting a whopping $130 for a return of $15 for their 7-8 hours of play.

The players seem to be real passive and I was labeled a "Maniac" because I 3-bet from the button after an old guy limped.

That reminds me Palimax, Adrian will be out here Jan 8-22 or so and wants to minimally hit CAZ, Wildhorse Pass, and a couple SCPC nights. I'll keep you up to date on times if you want to come along.

(Only posting this publicly on the off chance Howard Beale or someone else wants to meet up with us as well. Sorry for slight derail.)

MAde a appearance today. Showed up around 1:30 with a buddy. Waited 30+ minutes to get seated in a $4/$8 game (list 20 deep of course).

What is it? 2+ months?? Still no electronic board, or electronics for chips and service. Typical Gila.

Booooooo.....

See Ya at Casino AZ in 2010.

Gila Sucks! or is Same Ol Gila.

(a) I like the custom title. Never noticed it.
(b) I've got money I haven't even spent yet, so I'm down.
(c) I love meet-ups.

...and while it's on nobody's list but mine, I've got an assload of Harrah's comps to use up. *shrug*
