Mix game will most likely be $15/30 or $20/40

I've usually found it a waste of time.
The mix games or Omaha $8/16 games would never start at WHP if my friends and I did not start them short handed.. If your willing to sit even HU the games will fill.

I will be there in approximately 2 hours...hopefully I won't have to wait forever to get into an 8/16 game.

They'll prolly make somebody get up from the table to accomodate you.

Log on to FT after you get home and sit in a 5/10, too.

I understand but don't feel like going out of my way to help them if they won't do anything for me.

Visited for the first time yesterday afternoon. My impressions:

Room layout:
It's decent...not too dark to me, and there's ample room w/ 9 per table. Nice tables and better than avg chairs. The TV set-up could be better, but tolerable...but they need to act much quicker on changing channels. The PA system is too loud in some areas, and not loud enough in others. The ending of the Superman theme will forever be in my head thanks to a nearby slot machine. The closest bathroom is too far away, and walking past the always busy Player's Club and ATM machine near an entrance is a PITA.

Staff:
Obviously understaffed all the way around...floor, runners, dealers, service. The lady behind the stand was overwhelmed and rude to multiple customers, many whom were arriving for the first time that day, i.e., not the nagging kind. The words "seat on __" "service on __" and "chips on __" were muttered over and over by dealers, with mounting frustrations in their voices.

Game Selection:
As was expected, but I had to wait 90 mins to play, even though there was a list of over 15 for 8/16. They kept saying they'd check the interest and they never did. When a seat would finally open on the only 8/16 going, they would skip over 3 or 4 names because those people had presumably said "F this" and left. That's simply unacceptable. A 15/30 mixed had started before 6:30PM.

Overall:
I still think it has potential. The room was busy, and this was between 1 and 6PM. The promos they have going are pretty inviting and are the main reason why I'd go back sooner than later, but I think they're going to end on 11/30 (at least that's what their handouts say). I ran into a couple of day shift CAZ regulars who said they were only there due to the promos, so it'll be interesting to see how the crowd is once that day passes.

It's just unbelievable they don't have the table electronics or seating board working a month in. There's really no excuse for that. If the electronics at CA went down, do you think it would take a month to get them back up again?? No way. The fact that the poker staff didn't even change, or get additional help, other then new dealers, when opening a much bigger room shows that Gila isn't looking to even try, or at least don't have any idea how, to compete against CA in the poker department.

what promos?

I think any casino could compete in this market by offering comps, since no one seems to be. Or is WHP doing that?

Promo's end soon afaik. I've hit for $800 which is nice. There's a player card now that there is no official word on what it's good for.

Meanwhile I'm sitting here waiting for the mix game w/ no players in sight.

Bottom Line. Wild Horse Pass will also be like the Old Gila River.

I went tonight and played some $4/$8. I won $150+, but bottom line is; the room still doesn't have table electronics (chips and service). Also when me and my buddy cashed out there was only one employee cashing out chips!!! And there was one line. How do you have 1 out of 3 possible cashier windows open? I've never seen more then one cashier open to cash out.

It's all good though; Gila will always be Gila.

I was at the biggest clusterflock of an opening that I've ever seen, Mohegan sun last year in CT. An entire pool of players had been talking about how great it would be to not play at Foxwoods for 4 years.

and then: Mohegan uses only pit dealers with minimal training. A willing customer base deserts them in the first week and they spend a year recovering.

so Gila isn't a total fail, but just not that extra spark that's going to get business from CAZ.

I disagree with the last few posts.

Gila is going to get a bump out of this. Most nights at Gila pre-move there simply wasn't a 1/2 SL game going, let alone an Omaha game or a game obove 8/16. Those are constant since the move. Time will still tell if they last.

I closed the 4/8 Omaha game on both Thanksgiving night and last night -- and played a little 1/2 SL afterwards.

I was excited to know that 8/16 set-game-mix happened, but 15/30 dealer's-choice is out of my donate-zone. I'm glad for the room that it's going though.

I'll be playing there more, as long as Omaha runs most nights...

If you'll excuse me though, I'm off to Harrah's to pick up my cruise

Are the Aces/Faces cracked and high hand promos over, or were they extended beyond 11/30?

The Aces and Faces promo is over but starting on 12/13 they got a pretty good promo where every two hours they draw a table and high card for $500. I believe it lasts 12 or 13 days, and they are going to up the number of tables they draw each day (meaning on 12/14 they'll draw 2 tables every 2 hours, then on 12/15 they'll draw 3 tables every 2 hours, etc.)

How's the rake at this casino and how does it compare to Casino Arizona? I've heard complaints that the rake is a little high at CA but haven't heard anything about this. I'm moving to AZ next week.

They have been taking 3/house 2/JP. That is a better deal, in a way, than CAZ which takes 4/house 1/JP in the winter months. A dealer told us last night that they're going to start up some new promotions with that money. During summer when business is slower CAZ takes 3&2.

My main objection to WHP is the way they handle kill pots but there's nothing I can do about it.

I was under the impression they did this in the summer to build the jackpot for the football pools, am I wrong about that?
