Friend of mine posted this on a private forum. Long and emotional, but I thought I'd repost here:

**********
gg New Wild Horse Pass poker room (boy...that didn't take long at all!)

****ing morons.

So this sexy new room opens up replacing the old piece of **** they've had for 15 years. I live 5 minutes from this place and have watched for over a year the construction with great anticipation that a nice poker room may open so close by.

Last week it did, and the property looks very Vegas and awesome and the masses are happy.

The poker room has no real NO Limit games and play is heavily geared towards limit play. They do have a 2-250 spread limit game but normally that is just one table and the list is long to get a seat. The game is really not worth hanging around with your thumb up your ass for an hour because you could drive 20 minutes up the freeway to the far superior room (Casino Arizona) and get in a much better game in just a few minutes there.

So today I mosey over and get on the list. There is one game going at 2-250 and the list for a 2nd game now has 9 people on it. I ask the poker dude running the show and he says "hang around...we'll probably start another game very soon".

I sit and watch some random football...10 minutes go by and I wander over to look at the list, which now has over 15 people on it. Also, several folks have just walked up and are interested as well. A few are asked by the poker room dude "would you like a seat in the 8-16 game?". a few take the offer.

I ask the guy what's up and he tells me "don't worry we are gonna check interest in starting a 2nd spread limit game". I tell him that he told me that like 15 minutes ago and he tells me to sit tight. So wtf, I sit tight. 5 minutes later a lady comes over to me and tells me "we are going to start a new game in a minute", which makes me happy. 20 minutes or so is a reasonable wait I guess.

Then the poker dude grabs the mic and starts "interest check only...interest check only". There are like 15 names on his list, CLEARLY there is interest. He runs down the names on the list, 3 have grown tired of waiting and have left, the rest of us are in the room but 4 of them have jumped into an 8-16 limit game to play and kill time until the spread limit game starts.

I say again.... several of the players on the list are playing 8-16 AND ARE WAITING FOR THE NEW GAME TO START...and we have enough to start....

The poker dude then starts writing something....and announces "I'm sorry...that game will not go at this time"

W T F ? ? ?

I walk over and he says "hey man it'll just be a little longer" . I ask him what the problem is, we have plenty of players now?

He says he can't start the new spread limit game because so many of the players are in the 8-16 game and starting a new spread limit game will cripple the 8-16 game....

W T F ? ? ?

I try to calmly tell him (I am failing now and talking very sternly) "listen, the only reason that 8-16 game is going at all is because those guys wanted to play the spread limit and couldn't..in other words, those 8-16 guys WANT TO PLAY THE SPREAD LIMIT GAME".

He tells me that he's sorry, He's been told that he can't leave the 8-16 game short but that I should stick around and he's sure ...blah blah blah ....

I walk away, pretty ****ing annoyed, and sit back down. I notice several people walking up wanting to play the spread limit but he keeps asking them all if they would like to play limit instead. Steaming now

on a side note...is there a financial reason a casino would do this? Does the casino somehow make more money on spread limit games??? Clearly this ******* running the room wants to keep all the limit games going at all costs.

20 or so more minutes pass and several people have given up and left and the list has now shrunk. I wander over near the board and a guy in front of me is asking about the spread limit game, and the poker dick says " I have one game going but it may be a while before you can get a seat".

Then he looks at me and I am just glaring at his ass and the stupid chick with him who told me to stay becasue a new game was starting.

I ask him "how much longer?" and he looks away and says "yeahhh...ummm it's gonna be a while...". I tell him "no, this won't take any time at all. An hour is all I am going to give you. Take me off the list. I waited over a year for this room to open and you guys are screwing it up. I hope your happy". He tells me He's sorry and I tell him as I start to walk away "not as sorry as you are going to be after I tell everyone how badly run this place is run". He keeps yapping as I walk away ignoring him and waving my hand in the air . BYE

Just incredible. I had such high hopes too, but bull**** now. Not gonna wait over an hour on maybe getting to play when I know for a fact I could be in a much better room, with better food and service, and be playing in less than 30 minutes.

So an official "**** You WHP poker room". gg you dumb asses.gg New Wild Horse Pass poker room (boy...that didn't take long at all

Wow that guy obviously need serious medication, lol. jk. I don't blame him for leaving, especially if he is not a limit player.

WHP overall looks great. The poker room there is too dark and the sign up board is a mess. The players have always seemed to be more of the older working man type and daily grinder regulars, with the games few and spread heavily towards limit, so I guess it's great if you love to play limit.

Food/service is better at CAZ and NL type game options are greater, with far less waiting. I think the new poker room and hotel looks to be a stand out amongst all Arizona casinos and will set the new standard when it opens (March?)

Oh boo hoo. He waited for an hour? That's a short wait at Bay 101. Or used to be, the last time I played it. They won't start a new game with 15 on the list? Standard practice at places like MGM in Vegas.

15 is usually enough back east. Friday night they had about 12 people on the list for a 15-30 LHE game and I was suprised they didn't call it. I agree with BYN

We started $8/16 O.E. (Omaha 8, Stud 8) at ~7:45 I left the game at 2:30am and it was 6 handed...

Seems to be some good interest in these mix games!

It doesn't matter what the wait is at a room in northern California.

WHP is a brand new room with 25 tables that is trying to take some customers away from Casino Arizona. To do that, they will have to do a lot better than what they are currently doing.

I waited over two hours to get in a spread limit game last Saturday. They had plenty of players, but not enough dealers. To keep most of the 25 tables going, they are going to have to spread more than just $3/$6, $4/$8 and $8/$16. They could easily have enough players to fill three table of spread limit most nights.

WHP has only been open a little over a week. They have many bugs to work out. The new CAZ will be open in March and it will be interesting to see how many of those 25 tables will be empty. A lot of the CAZ regulars that went to check it out are already back at CAZ.

I have never waited longer than 40 minutes (usually less than 15) to get in a game at CAZ. The food and service at CAZ is much better than WHP.

I will give WHP another chance this week. I hope it's better, as we need a local alternative to CAZ. Both places are an equal distance from where I live.

There's still a good bit of buzz about the Gila room at other card rooms. I played at Harrah's again last night to get my expiring comps out of the way (and I'm a little short of Diamond this year) and sat the 3/6 OE game.

During my game, the 8/16 OE game was discussed multiple times by multiple players, as was the wait times for the $2-250 (and the not-breaking of the 8/16 game once $2-250 players sat in it).

Players want to play in your games. They want more than 3/6 and 4/8 hold'em. Give them a reason to go and a reason to stay, or in a couple months, you'll be a ghost town. The low-limit players will move back to Harrah's and the middle-limit players will move back to CAZ.

I don't get the whining about the $2/$250 spread game. Every time I've played in it the biggest pot I saw was about $100. It's normally, someone raises to $7 or $10 and takes down the blinds. The only time I've seen the game being any good is when there's a super drunk gambler in the game after 10:00 PM, and almost in every instance when this situation comes up there's no list and 2 or 3 empty seats at the table.

But everyone seems to be pissed they can't show up on Friday and Saturday night between 5:00 and 9:00 and sit in a super nitty spread game in less then 20 minutes?? What's up with that??......

They were nuts for not having gotten their sign up system perfected before opening the poker room. They could have an e-board outside that would advertise the games to passersby.

This is how I feel. Like with CAZ and their new room, I'm sure it's opening months later than originally scheduled. You'd think with reasonable planning PLUS the construction delays, they'd have enough time to get all the organizational stuff ironed out beforehand.

I'm not too concerned with WHP because CAZ is right next door to me, but I'd love for there to be more and better options across the city to help bring more and more players into the game. Bigger player pool = better for poker, even if it's spread out a bit more. So hopefully WHP gets some of their issues worked out because the room sounds really nice.

The whining was a result of that guy being told to stick around because they told him they would start a spread limit game when it sounds like they were not really all that interested in doing that. Instead they recruited for the limit game. That's all fine and well, but be up front about it. I would have been upset as well if I drove all the way there, waited over an hour because I was being told one thing and then not getting to play at all.

Agree that some waiting is fine, to a point. But if he had gone to CAZ it is almost a guarantee to get into a game fairly quickly because normally there are several Spread limit games going all the time there.

And granted, the HWP spread limit game is fairly lousy, but that is not the point. There seems to be more than enough people who want to play it, so they should accommodate those players. Not doing so is VERY anti player friendly imo.And the games probably would get better if they spread more games, but it seems like they do not want to do this.

I also think that players we looking for a good second option to play their brand of poker and were hoping too that WHP would be it. I am included in this group. I do not understand why they are so limit heavy in that room? There are plenty of tables now to make everyone happy. Why would a casino NOT want to make people happy and keep them coming back, spread the good word, etc. It seems ridiculous.

Call me crazy but I think if WHP offered say... 3 or 4 spread limit games instead of 23 limit games and just ONE spread limit game, the bitching would end.

I do agree 100% with this. There's really no excuse for them not having a better, or computerized, sign up system ready for the new place.

I went about a week prior to opening and 3 days prior to opening thinking they HAD to do a soft opening to make sure systems were in place and operational...where was that?!

We can agree that things are not perfect. They are not perfect anywhere..

What's important is taht the people are WHP appreciate the business and are trying to make the room good for everyone - not an easy task!

As a mid stakes player I am hopeful to have more than one option in AZ.

casinos have to learn that happy customers that get to play what they want attract even more new faces. too often they look at the immediate future by doing only what is best for the casino in that instant. ive been seeing that for all my life and it isnt likely to change.

I need some more discretionary income. I haven't had $10 to play in the house league lately, much less play in the casino, but this is a very short detour from on my way home, and I'd really love to stop by and play some.
