Hmmm, I should get down there in the next few weeks. A few of my buddies are working for the hotel there.

I assume the chips are new, but please please please tell me that is the case. Their old chips were so nasty it wasn't even funny.

I just hope the new casino means there will be more games around the clock. I walked in at noon on a Saturday like 4 months ago, and there was one 3-6 table going, so I turned and walked right back out the door.

Both are about equal distance to me, so I'll go where the games are being spread. It would be very nice if this brings back their 15-30 game. I would love if they could get 2 games of 15-30 going most weekend evenings, and then in a year or two, try to get a 30-60 game going. It would be nice to have different options here.

I'm a regular in the $8/$16 game at the Old Gila (And by regular a mean the drinking young white-guy fish). I went to the new one today with a buddy around 2:00, and the place was packed, with a wait over a hour so we didn't get a chance to play.

Right when we got there though the bad beat jackpot was hit. 3 Aces on board and AJ, QQ, and JJ in the hand. I think the jackpot was around 18K.

The floor and board-guy were definitely overwhelmed with the amount of people. And I agree about the poker room being too dark. But definitely a HUGE upgrade from the old dump.

I'm gonna deliberately hi-jack the thread. I'd be willing to play the 15 game here if it's better than the 20 or the 40 at CAZ. But, what's the latest on the new CAZ?

Damn Leo, guess you don't trust me, DC, and Howard to keep you in the know (along with boc and SS to a lesser extent). I am offended!

I know I'm a newbie, but I wanna get in this AZ mix. Especially to avoid driving.

I played at Harrah's on Friday night. There were three 3/6 games and one 1/2 game going. All games broke except the 1/2 by about 3am. The 1/2 game broke around 5:30am on Friday.

Casinos (overall) were busy on Friday. A lot of people had the bug to go play because of the opening, but didn't go to Gila because of the crowds and waits. When I drove past it on Friday, the line to get onto the property and into the parking structure stretched to the freeway.

I might go down to Gila in a few minutes, since it's right down the street.

Anyone going to the $30 tourney tomorrow at noon? $150 added per table.

When we moved to AZ we wanted to visit a casino so I looked up where Harrah's was and decided to go there from N. Scottsdale. We were unused to how big AZ is and on the map it was 'just over there a bit.' So we're driving and driving and driving and back then Harrah's was in the middle of absolutely nowhere and I'm wtf? there's nothing here and all of a sudden there's a casino w/ a full parking lot.

First thing I ask an employee: 'Where did all these people come from?' which just goes to show the power of gambling. We haven't been back but there's no poker anyway so why bother.

Very nice room!

***Regs****

Interest in starting an $8/16 - $15/30 mix game??

A regular Omaha game would be awesome as well as long as it's above $6/12..

Should we start a $8/$16 Gila general thread. Richie? The Chef? JP?

I'm drunk. And bored.

We don't have NL in Arizona. The spread games were mentioned earlier in thread.

I think that's everyone's reaction to HET Ak-chin. that and the small room with insane rake. The players were dull but they did have a O8/Stud8 mix that looked playable.

They had some match play slot thing, but I read it for @ 5 minutes but couldn't figure it out.

Is the rake that different from elsewhere? I was under the impression that $3 rake $2 jackpot was standard around here.

Yeah it's pretty goofy. Isn't it something like you play and then a coupon for the amount of your loss is mailed to you to come back and play again?

I think it is 5+1 But the real theft is how they take it. 1$ pf, 2 on the flop. You could often pay 50% rake.

Yes, and when you come back that coupon is good for playing on a few machines. Might be worth it if both ends are goodfor video poker.

The rake at Harrah's Ak-Chin is $1 at 5, another $1 at 10, and another $1 at 20. $3 total once the pot is $20. Trust me on this.

If you see a dealer not taking the rake that way, they are doing it wrong and you should DEFINITELY say something to the floor. The way you describe it makes me think that there is for sure some dealer error going on. It should never be close to 50% rake. It shouldn't be the same amount on the flop every hand. It's dictated by pot size. What you said is very disturbing.

Jackpot is $1 always (the small blind) and another $1 at 20 making $2 total.

I played the 2-250 until it broke. Played fairly small; and as such, I only lost $150

I had intended to play O8, and probably will on the next visit.

Overall, I like the room, and if there's games going, I'll be visiting more.

This is a Gila River Indian casino, right? Anyone know if they use the same chips at both properties (see below)? Thanks.

Three properties, and the writing on the right-example chip is a hint.

Highway robbery.

Speaking of which, beers are expensive too. I wasn't drinking, but table-side service, overall, is too pricey and was the subject of ridicule, even at a table with a lot (relatively speaking) of money on it. The food at CAZ continues to be a strong plus in their column.

...and, while I'm ranting, at least one of my dealers last night spent his entire down bitching about how much he didn't want to be dealing, and how many shifts he did or didn't want to work, and how the last table should have been his bust out, and moaning about where his push was, and how many hours he needs to keep his benefits... I'm sure these are pressing concerns, but shut up and deal the cards, please. You're doing a bang-up job of representing the new room, sir.

very surprising to me. Everyone I've been talking to has been very glad to be making money and working hard. I guess there always has to be that guy in every crowd. i think you should report him so dealers who want to work can get more shifts!

You guys are spoiled. California players would be happy to pay 2 bucks for water if they could get a drop like that.
