yea , i play some small tourneys and they are fun. but still need to check the house rake on them as some of them are unplayable as too much goes out and not enough left to win. many are the equivalent of the house taking all the money every eight or tenth tourney.
if you play just for entertainment value then it may be worth it.
Just arrived in town for a few weeks to a few months of work and this room is about 8 miles from my hotel. Looking forward to the action although I am surprised at the amount of limit poker being played there. I do like the O8 game - what days/times does that usually get going?
So I've played a few times in this room now and definitely like it. Always plenty of action and the room promotions are great. I've been involved in several splashed pots, the high hand drawing, and got to spin the wheel for hitting a straight flush (won $150, not too bad). The staff and dealers are competent and there are plenty of good players as well as fish. Looking forward to more over the coming weeks until I ship out again.

I visited this room earlier this week for a change of scenery and witnessed the following at a 2-100 spread limit table.
A splash pot hand was dealt and a player got stacked for $300ish.
After the hand, he starts talking to me about what an unbelievable hand it was, etc. (The other player called $100 preflop, flopped a gutshot, and called another $100 on flop and turn before verbally calling for her straight card on the river and hitting it.)
Then he mentioned the other player in the hand had just sat down. I said "Hmm, I wonder if she was even eligible for the splash pot?" (The promotion rules are you have to be dealt in prior to the touchdown that caused the splash pot in order to be eligible. I have no idea whether this lady was, in fact, eligible).
The guy calls the floor over and asks if the other player was eligible for the slash. The floor says "yes, the previous dealer would have made sure of that." He says "Can you check with her to make sure?"
Meanwhile, the player who won the hand has suddenly decided it's a good time to rack up and leave and no one is stopping her. And unbelievably, the floor lady says to the player who lost the hand "It's time for you to leave, I'm going to call security."
And she does. He asks why he is being asked to leave and she says "You were being disrespectful." And they escort him out.
I was completely stunned. I mean, I might have missed a few words here or there, but he did absolutely nothing other than question, in a calm voice, whether the other player had been eligible. I had sat with the guy at the table for 3 hours and he hadn't had any other incidents involving the floor during that time.
Lost a $900+ pot w/ Aces in the 5/500 spread game, and only 15 minutes later after some chatter was I alerted it was aces cracked so I got a $100 rebate. I made it $20, call, guy made it $50, I made it $150, he called, I pushed his last $300ish on T high three spade flop, he calls I instantly show my hand assuming he has Queens or Kings, shows his neighbor and doesn't show until after river dealt he has TT, lol NL players, why can't you have some common courtesy to show your hand when you have the nuts, idiots. Woulda been nice to have the dealer handle that instead of having the conversation of aces cracked come up randomly 10-15 minutes later.
Also played 20/40 today and only recognized 3-4 other players at a full table. Why don't these people start 8/16 games at Gila or travel north and play at CAZ (when they are open)?
How's the 20/40 looking tonight at WHP, 'cause yep, I'm one of those former semi regulars that will NEVER set foot in the TSR poker room again. I'd have to search for my posts to figure out how long it's been, but definitely numerous years.
Ive been checking Bravo and i haven't seen much for 20-40 or higher anything...do see numerous waiting lists but rarely have noticed an active game, certainly not later on at night..could be checking at wrong time but its disspaointing considering how constant the action for higher limits is at TS.
Seems like Gila is just focusing on their normal audience with lots of lower limit games - ive never been to that room but i assume it is pretty small.
20/40 Hold'em has been going pretty regularly, as well as usually a 20/40 OE and sometimes a 40/80 or 50/100 OE or mix game.
Look for the games to start around 10-11am Pacific time and last until 8-10pm at night. Fri/Sat nights obviously better. Also 8/16 has been getting 1-2 games pretty regular as well.
i went to gila a few years back when i was there. very poorly run i thought and little consideration for making the players happy as opposed to making the workers happy.
and i bet a million bucks with them getting the action while it is closed they wont capitalize on it by doing whatever it takes to keep them coming back. they will be satisfied with extra profit just form the closed period.
