To get the free room you have to register in person. i have done it both ways in person for free and on line for 25 a night.

Was anyone at my 1/2 table last night? There was this guy who sat down and it was almost definitely his first time playing. He reloaded like 5 times in a 2-3 hour window. He played nearly every hand preflop and played bottom pair or better to the river virtually every hand. I think he called 3 streets in a 3bet pot with 72 on an A28xx board or something ridiculous. He turned his hand over every time (even if it was the obvious winner) because he wasn't sure what his hand was at showdown. It was interesting to say the least...

Just wondering : )

I'm sure someone else will chime in with more specifics, but I know there's a cheap hotel around exit 85 on 395.. Within one exit, up or down, anyway.

Right at exit 85 (the exit for Foxwoods) there is an AmericInn, that might be what you're thinking of. Don't know about weekends but weeknights are under $100.

The closest places are in North Stonington, the cheapest are in Groton.

My personal favorite is the Super 8 in Groton (Cheap yet not dirty as some of the cheap places are; has a fine free waffle b'fast; 15 minutes from Foxwoods)

For cheap, Priceline, ftw. If you are willing to pay a few $ more, hotwire.com will give you the same choices without the guessing of a price.

I like Priceline too as long as you don't include the lowest rated hotels in your criteria. And too often you can be stuck in a place further away than you want, or not up to your standards for other reasons.

I find the customer comments on some of these online hotel reservation services to be very useful in choosing a good place at whatever price range you want. I do this if I want to avoid the randomness factor involved in Priceline.

It depends on your standards. However, if you are looking to spend less than $100/night on the weekend, you're going to be in Groton or New London. The Super 8 in Groton is usually in the $90's if you go through their reservation system. You can do better on Priceline in terms of hotel and pay more like $45-$55 if you book a couple of weeks in advance.

Pick 1.5 or 2 stars to stay out of the worst of the hotels.

Good points.

And to avoid this turning into a priceline discussion, I refer people to the Priceline Appreciation Thread.

My favorites were the REd Roof New London (25 min very cheap) or Econolodge Groton (20 min).

There's a Stardust close to Foxwoods. It must be modeled on the Vegas ex-hotel. Let me know how the dancers are.

BBJ is at $72k after only 12 days. And this only represents 60% of what is being taken off the tables for it.

A few more tidbits about the BBJ which are not advertised (dealer told me about this the other night)

1. Must have 20$+ in the pot (b/c 1$ isnt taken out unless the pot reaches 20$+.

2. Must have 4 or more players see a flop.

3. If anyone is using a cell phone at the table during the bbj hand then the bbj will not be paid out.

4. No talking about the bbj while the bbj hand takes place...

I swear it's as if they don't want to pay it out... even tho it's all players money!

1, 2, and 4 are advertised. Check out the website. 3 is the first I've heard of it, though you're really not supposed to be using your phone at the table anyway.

4 is the one that I think would almost always happen. If the board shows AAKK or JxJcTc9c someone is bound to say something, especially since it's only the lower stakes tables and thus more casual players. The first time this happens at my table I'm speaking right up and telling everyone to STFU from now on, explaining why.

Oh I never saw it on the website, I was just going off of the display screen they have in the poker room.

I guess it isn't using the cell phone, it is texting. The dealer said it is to prevent collusion between two people involved in the BBJ.

Ooooo I can see that causing a problem maybe. People text all the time. I think it's technically not allowed but almost every dealer/floor let it go. I've only been told to step away from the table once.

Ya I feel at this point that they are looking for reasons to not pay it out so they can advertise "oh we have a bbj at ___$"

It is def attracting some fish/bbj chasers tho, esp at 1/2 and 2/4 limit.

At this rate it'll crush the AC amounts in no time, which will create a snowball effect on the fish attraction, like what happens with Powerball.

Are you actually seeing the play worsen? I haven't played yet this month.

To be fair I only play lower limit games, 1/2 or 2/5 at most, and never limit. I have heard that 2/4 limit is a donkey-festival right now with everyone limping with any hand that can beat quad 8's lol.

At NL it is harder to tell who is just a bad player and who is chasing the BBJ. The table I was playing at last weekend was noticeably looser than when the BBJ was in effect, but this is 1/2 so it could just be a different style table.

I believe for the bbj its not 4 players seeing a flop but 4 players being dealt in the hand.
Quote
10-13-2009 , 11:31 AM
I'm almost exclusively 1/2. Just getting 1 extra limper every other hand will make up for the jackpot drop.

This is correct, I just looked again.
