They can be fun if you approach them properly. Not going to be very profitable though even if your a SNG master. (Unless you get a very very good win rate at the $500+ sng's but good luck getting those running with any consistency)

James Woods won the bad beat jackpot?
Whatta joke

I'm so sick about hearing how it's unfair that James Woods won the bbj

I'm sure you all feel that you deserve the BBJ more than everybody else playing 1/2, yet no matter how much you play or donate to that stupid jackpot there will usually be someone else who has played/donated more...

The guy is one of very few people who will give it all back with a smile on his face, he's been playing 5/10 and 4 figure tourneys with this score and you're all complaining... it's unreal

I can guarantee you James Woods was not the wealthiest player playing 1/2 while the BBJ was high. Sure, he may be the most well known person, but plenty of people who could do without winning it were playing. Winning money is why people go to a casino, James wanted to win money, so does everyone else, what's the big deal?

I've never heard anyone who has actually played with him for more than 5 minutes say that.

i agree that the hating on jimmy woods is silly...i played ten/20 stud with him for awhile and he was an ok guy, kept to himself mostly...and the best part part of him hitting that bbj is that hes putting that money right back into the poker economy, unlike other people who buy houses and cars and take all that money out of the room...its cool how the bbj can give people monies, but its bad for the poker room overall i feel...

One of the nicest guys I've ever played with. Good at poker, funny sometimes and friendly as long as you don't act like a Dbag. Had the pleasure of playing with him when he came back from no-where (1 bb left) to finish like 24th in a tournament in Feb 2011.

BTW, he plays for the competition. He isn't the only guy who does. Tournament Poker is a great sport; one can exercise their brain, meet people from all walks of life, enjoy the thrill of victory and experience the agony of defeat and that can happen all in the period of a ten minute round.

James Woods is not the richest guy looking to win a share of the BBJ!!!

He is a great guy to play with at any stakes. I have played with him at 1/2 and 2/5 NL and he loves the action in both. I have also played with him at 20/40 limit and 20/40 OE He offers a lot of good things to the games.... He is always welcomed to any game I'm playing.

I always thought he was cash poor then read he had like 40 million but think he must have been if 100k is changing his limits.

as far as i know the bbj didn't change his limits. the week he won he was playing 5-10nl as well as 1-2nl.

Right.
First of all, James Woods is a good guy, and a good guy to play with.
Secondly, the BBJ isn't a welfare or income redistribution program, it's a casino promotion, and he had just as much right to try for it as anyone else.
Thirdly, on the BBJ hand, he was deliberately going for it, and called a $35 preflop raise with suited connectors, and then another bet on the flop from a guy who'd flopped a set of aces. He turned the SF, and the quad aces came on the river. IMO, he deserved every penny.

I thought he usually played 2-5? That's broke for an actor or someone who supposedly is worth 45 million. I saw somewhere that he dated heather Graham too. Sick life though even if it's not true. She was so hot ESP in license to drive.

I hope that I dont get in trouble for this but anyone who has played with him a few times has heard about his sexcapades so.....HG apparently loves anal and JW obliged.

He plays the stakes congruent to his skill level. Bankroll should not dictate your stakes, your skill level should.

My skill level is probably worse well I get very spewy esp after playing too long and I found that the higher game was like play money. One time I won a lot playing 2-5 but usually lose. The 20-40 was pretty tight also, I played that and didn't do well either. I found that although the 2-5 regs might be a little loose deep pf but don't stack off light post flop usually. Great story though. Only played the 20 bc I heard it was good then it's usually one of 3 that are good.

each of the 3 times ive played with him (all at 2/5) he was asked why he didn't play 5/10+ (which I think is incredibly rude btw) and he would respond with the same thing which was essentially "I dont mind losing the money but I mind losing the game and Im not able to win at 5/10" now I dont know about him winning at 2/5 long term (hes probably slight loserish from how ive seen him play against that competition) but he was probably getting smashed up at 5/10+ when he played it as his main game and regardless of the money factor most people (even major fish) at any limit don't play to lose

also ive seen him play both 1/2 - 5/10 in the last 2 months ive been going to foxwoods since black friday fwiw

Oh I'm sort if a noob so. I think the game was tougher when James(the kid)since he was supposedly crushing it but I always hit and run bc I lost one session when I first started but it was bad. The guy(fat) called my raise with k10 and I had jj my first hand and i lost a lot that hand, but when I played 5-10 I thought it was like play money online maybe cause I was scared?

I'm coming up to FW this saturday night. Been almost five months since I've been there.

Trying to decide if I should take a two buy-in 2/5 shot (never played it before) or stick with 1/2 (which I've played a fair amount of over the years, and am a winner at).

Can anyone comment on 1/2 vs 2/5, particularly since Black Friday? Games gotten any tougher or softer?

it's bs that we dont get dream points for playing tournaments...people in cash games usually pay around $10/hr in rake...i played the 400 on monday and they took a nice rake, shouldnt we get the equivelant comp for what we pay in rake? i'd actually be satisfied with less-than-normal comps on tourney entries, but i do want SOMETHING... has this ever been brought up here or with any management at the woods?

I plan on going out on July 17th to catch some poker action. I played the 120 omaha 8+ last time and final tabled but really got nothing going. i'm looking to play some cash game limit omaha h/l. I think I saw a list for it last time i went but it was full. How often does it run on Sundays?

Booked my room for the Mohegan tourneys. Somehow I get a much better weekend rate at mohegan than the place that I actually play at.
