I haven't personally played at the Skills, but one thing that concerned me about the place was the rake structure. Here's what their room manager told me they rake in an e-mail:
Quote:
We charge a total of $5 for the house and $1 for the jackpot per pot. The jackpot dollar is taken when the pot reaches $10. The house rake is taken in $1 increments when the pot reaches $5, $15, $25, $35, $45. This is true for all our cash games.
To me this is a bit too high. At the Tampa HR they don't round their rake up. Meaning at the HR they would only rake $1 in a $15 pot (+1 for the jackpot). Here $2 would get raked out of a $15 pot, plus an extra one would get dropped for the jackpot. That's taking 20% of the pot away.

But I see their rake for tournaments is much lower. Can somebody comment though on weather there's a dealer add-on for tournaments though, and if so how much. Because if there's a $10 add-on for the $60 non-raked tournament, then it's essentially raked 16.7%. Which isn't terrible, but I'd like to know if it's an actual non-raked tournament before I head over there.

That is a high rake in the cash games. Only Pensacola is slightly worse in that they take $2 for the jackpot once the pot reaches $10. Their $1 rakes occur at $6, $16, $26, $36, and $46. So in a pot with 5 limpers they take $3 right off the top (30%).

It would be nice if the State legislated a more reasonable rake structure, such as $1 on the tens ($5 max) plus a $1 jackpot drop. We'd only be dreaming to cap the rake at $4 with no jackpot as many Vegas rooms do.

The do round up at The Tampa Hard Rock. For example, $42 in pot is an insta- red bird on the rake slide.

The 42 is the 4 already in the rake slot plus 1 for the BBJ for 47 total, if you look at the chart they have posted, it is somewhere it will tell you $1 at 6,16,26,36,46, that is what they do almost every place, a few do the 5,15,25,35,45 but not all

I don't know how they do it at Hollywood hard rock, but at Tampa hard rock they do it the right way. $19 is $1 rake, $49 is $4. No rounding up.

I completely agree with your two posts. I would much rather play MTTs than the current cash games, but I'm completely frustrated by the level structures of almost all of the tournaments. After level 5 or 6 it turns into bingo, no matter the starting stack. The Daytona Monday (and sometimes Thursday) "Deepstack" gives me 11K in chips with the add-on, but doubles the blind amount every 20 minutes for six of the first seven levels and starts the antes fairly early, so by level 5 it's 400-800 with 50 ante, level 6 it's 500-1000 with 100 ante, and then it really gets fun at level 7 with 1000-2000 blinds. I know that they need to get the tournament completed before the room closes at midnight, so I'm hopeful (probably in vain) that they'll adjust the structures somewhat if they can stay open later. I absolutely detest playing solid poker for nearly two hours and then the game turning into a contest of who gets the luckiest.

I long for a structure like the Friday or Saturday noon tournament at the Venetian. I just don't think it's going to happen.

The problem is the location. Its almost in friggin Oldsmar.

Exactly. I went there last week for the first time (I'm a HRT/Derby guy). I only went there because I had a meeting with a client before that just off Hillsborough Ave. If there was a major highway near enough, it would be one thing. But between the clusterfuuck that is Hillsborough during, well, anytime, and Racetrack Road being under construction, it can be a real pain in the ass to get to.

Plus, the dealers weren't any better than Derby. The room was nice, but I wasn't blown away. The waitresses were pretty cute and prompt. Overall, there was nothing there that would make me switch allegiances.

July 1st Orange Park/St. Johns Poker Room No-Limit Holdem Spread

Just heard that the spread in July will be:

$40 - $200 2/2

$100 - $500 2/5

$300 - $1,000 5/10

The word came down yesterday after a managers meeting. Disappointed doesn't begin to describe my feelings about this spread. I guess short stack poker is alive and well in North Florida. Ridiculous!!!!

I heard Tampa HR would be $50-$200 1/2nl and $100-$500 2/5nl. so not much difference.
once they see how packed they will be and the demand for higher min. and max on games, Im sure they will slowly weed out the short buy in crap.

So we will all be playing 10/25 then to avoid the hundred dollar buy in or do you think they will let us short stack the 10 and a Q game with 4 BB's too? Let me shove my 4 green chips in the middle.

****ing muppets. They need to have a 2/5 "deep" game then. WTF? I hope they make the 5/10 game nickel min and at least dime cap.

Thought I was done with this game...

Here's praying that the 10/25 game has at least a 1k min.

If I ran that room my NL games would be:

1/2 100-300 5+1 rake
2/5 200-500 5+0 rake
5/10 500-1000 5/half hour time 0 bbjp
10/25 1,000-uncapped 6/half hour time 0 bbjp

I would give comps of $1.00/hr for 1/2, 2/5 and $1.50 for 5/10 and 10/25.

I would put the high limit games back on tables 1-8, 1-9,1-10, 2-8,2-9,2-10, and include free valet for any 5-10 and bigger players and access to deposit boxes to them. Those tables would be sectioned off with drapes and food service would be allowed from the food court/green room/council oaks, whatever. Bathrooms would be close by. That is the best you could do the way that room is configured without any construction/alterations.

I predict this will be standard for most/all FL poker rooms.

The 200max in the 1/2 NL sticks out the most but it keeps people who have been buying in at 100max in the game longer and without being at a complete disadvantage. The poker rooms want it this way. Still, 100BB is better than 50BB.

Has anyone asked Mike Smith from the isle what his limits are going to be? I know he came from the grand in Biloxi and hopefully will carry those rules down with him. I'll take either uncapped at 2-5 and above, or buy-in up to the largest stack at the table.

Is the rake still $5 of $25 dollar pot due to the rounding off and $2 jackpot drop?

Here is the phone number to the Poker room. Silks poker room Oldsmar 813-298-1798 . Rake is 10% up to $5 rounded off with a $2 jack pot drop. Why do you keep saying 5%? A pot that has just $26 dollars is raked at $5

Thinking about this new poker limits
A. don't think 1/2 no limit will change much.
B. 2/5 will be for the gamblers.
C. 5/10 for the sick
D 10/20 will last at most 30 days

I played here about three weeks ago. Was a rich old person as you say at my table who went through about $800 in about an hour. Guy was calling everything on every street with bottom pair. I played many card rooms last month in Florida. It's a great place to play. I will be coming back for sure. There is a small admission fee at times to enter the facility.

Just curious!
