July 1, 2010. The bill passed the Florida Senate last week and the Florida House this afternoon. The Governor is expected to sign it this week (probably tomorrow, imo).

I just read something in my local newspaper about Gov. Christ signing a bill in regards to "Indian gaming" but the article didn't really outline what it was going to effect... Can anyone provide me with more information on the subject? Did they increase the buy-ins or what?

1) Increase the hands per hour. When there is a dealer change there is always a lag while the new dealer counts the tray. Also some dealers allow the players to control the game. This slows the game down.

2) The $2 BBJ drop is too much. Gulfstream has a big sign saying we will never institute a $2 BBJ rake. Players grumble about it. Also you take out $1 at no pot and then again at $20 pot. If you are going to do that maybe you should take out $1 once there is a flop and then $1 at maybe $50.

3) Get better lighting. It's very dark in the poker room.

4) More comfortable chairs are important. After a few hours the chairs are not comfortable.

5) For your regulars allow the ability to call ahead and reserve a spot. You can do this at Gulfstream and it is great when you have an hour to play only.

6) Offer games players want. Always have enough dealers to begin a game.

7) Don't rake a hand if there is no flop. I know people who drive 20 miles to the Isle because of this rule.

8) Offer real comps. $0.25 per hour is a joke.

9) Have runners get chips for players. Not having dealers counting cash at the table speeds up the game.

Thanks Wil. If there are others I will let you know. Keep up the good work.
Mark,

Thanks for the feedback.

We may/have address(ed) some of those issues. For example:

1) Agreed. That is being addressed.

2) We may address this when the limits change. However, most of the money collected daily goes right back out. We give away ~$6K a day in high hand jackpots 24 hours a day.

5) You may call ahead and put your name on the list.

6) Not sure what you mean by this one. We actually spread more different types of games than most other places, including O8, Stud, Hi/Lo Stud, Spread Limit. To what games are you referring?

8) Agreed. We have been having issues with our two systems communicating the rates based on limit. This will be resolved shortly or we will raise the rate across the board.

Thanks again for the feedback and ask for me next time you come in so we can meet in person.

2) Please offer at least some tables that don't participate in jackpots--no jackpot drops, no jackpot payouts. Please please please?

Most of us posting here are locals so why not cater to the locals? The main reason the Bellegio is busy is the star factor, if the tourist had no chance of seeing the big name players it would be much slower.

Also why is everyone afraid of the other players big stacks, if you have 100 BB you can lose 100 BB to a player with 100 BB just as easy as to a player with 200 BB, you just can not win 200 BB is you only have 100 BB. There is no rule you must buy in for the full 200 BB.

You think Florida with its beaches and nice weather won't become even more of a tourist trap than Vegas?
Miami is the first post of entry for all of s from the Caribbean, Latin America and much of Europe.
There are a lot of poker tourists who do other things in Vegas. I suspect that Florida will get lots of beach and entertainment tourist who play poker.
If South Beach ever gets a casino I am moving into The Shore Club

Won't happen. You can't handle a dollar a pot?

No. Here is a summary of the changes which will take effect July 1, 2010:

1. Uncapped Poker: there will no longer be any limits by law to the amounts for buy-ins, stakes, blinds, limits, bets, etc. Any cardroom will be able to spread any game of poker with any buy-in amount, any blinds, any stakes, at their discretion. This includes limit, spread limit, pot limit and no limit for any poker game. There will also be no limits by law to tournament buy-in amounts. It will all be at the discretion of each cardroom.

2. Hours: Allowed hours at pari-mutuel cardrooms will be extended to 18/hrs/day weekdays and 24/hrs/day weekends and holidays. A cardroom can choose to have shorter hours. Indian casino poker rooms may continue to operate 24/7/365.

3. Age: Age limit remains at 18+ for all pari-mutuel cardrooms and the Indian casino poker rooms.

This has been passed by both the Florida House and the Florida Senate. It is in the process of being forwarded to the Governor for his signature. He has already stated that he will sign it (and there is zero chance that he won't, imo).

Although the same bill contains the state ratification of the Seminole Compact, which will still have to go through an approval process with the federal government, the changes above for poker will not depend on the Compact being enacted. The poker changes will take effect on July 1, 2010 regardless of what happens to the new Compact at the federal level.

There will be a rulemaking process at the Florida Department of Pari-Mutuel Wagering in regards to regulations for implementation of these changes. I am attempting to become a participant in this process, and will ask for player input here when the time comes.

The only ones with hotels are the Indian casinos, the problem there is they are not on the beach. The parimutuels are spread out but if I was coming in for a week, I would stay on the beach in Hollywood, that way you have about 10 casinos that are about 10-30 minutes from the beach where there are many hotels in all price ranges. If you are coming here I would assume you are going to do more then just play poker, so that is where I would stay. Casinos close to Hollywood, Mardi Gras, Gulf Stream, Calder, Dania, Isle, Hard Rock, Seminole Classic, Coconut Creek, Flagler, Miami Jai Alai, these are all the casinos I can get to in less then 30 minutes

Your closest to South Beach would probably be Flagler Dog Track or possibly Miami Jai Alai. Flagler would be the better place to go. Or you could shoot up north to Gulfstream, an even better option though a little further away.

PX,

Mardi Gras is 21 and over due to the fact that we are actually on the Casino/Slot floor and not in a separate area.

By the way, I know you have read this a lot already, but great work on the updates.

Gotcha. Thanks for the correction. I'll have to come by sometime and check you out. I won't have to put up with those young dudes in blue hoodies.

I'm really hoping card room managers have the min/max for 1/2 at 100-300. Playing against people buying in for less than 50 bbs is incredibly annoying, and 300 isn't too intimidating. For players that want to play NL and buy in for less spread a .50-1 game with a 20-100 min/max, PLEASE.

Would be great if some higher fixed limit games got spread once the cap goes away. I'd really like to see some 3/6 or 4/8 lhe.
