Is this up-to-date?

http://www.thepokeratlas.com/region/florida/6/

I mean up-to-date for locations. The whole listing will be out-of-date on 7/1, obv, as far as games offered. Will be some shake out going on for a while, no doubt, before the rooms settle on what they'll be offering and what buy-ins they'll be having.

IF they're smart, they'll keep relatively small capped buy-ins. I think the verdict is in that max buy-in of 100 big blinds creates the best balance between skill and action. IMHO.

Great link. Thanks.

Sad, that map showed a gaping hole of poker emanating from O-town. Just for laughs, the other day I sent a short email to the "info" email given for the websites for the Greyhound in Longwood and the Jai Alia fronton in Casselberry, the Orlando area pari-mutuals. I asked if they had any intentions of opening a poker room. I'm sure they both would if they could, but, with politics of the area being what it is they were unable. I Still wanted to see if I got an answer.

Both emails were returned "undeliverable". LOL.

I believe the limits do not depend on the compact. Other items in the legislation that was approved does (ie. slot votes, vlt) but we are slated to move forward on July 1 in West Palm Beach.

I will keep everyone up to date as things move forward. I just got back from Vegas and received the word while I was there so I have yet to get to the office and sort all of this out.

I do have a question for the masses. How big of a game can we get in Palm Beach? I am figuring a pretty big game based on the local net worth.

Please share your opinions.

I will try to give an update as to how we are going to proceed at the Palm Beach Kennel Club.

Take care.

You might want to read the law before you proceed. Section 26 of Senate Bill 788 says otherwise.

As someone moving to the state im curious - do any of you have any experience with private games and is their a br etter class of player in them or is the same crew as the casinos.

Actually, I was wrong, both didn't bounce. The Orlando Jai Alai answered:

"Thank you for your inquiry.
Yes, we will have a poker room when / if the county ever allows it. All efforts to establish a poker room have been blocked by the county.
Kindest Regards,
Orlando Jai-alai and Race Book"

Now Orlando is in Orange County, but both the pari's (despite sporting the "Orlando" name) are in Seminole Co. (read: Semen Hole, yuk yuk), which neighbors to the north.

Next round of emails are going to the members of the Seminole Co. Commission. I'll be sure to ask about any grass-roots, petition-type thing that could possibly sway the Commission. Probably pissing in the wind, I know, but what the hell.

As a frequent player at the PBKC, I say 25/50. Maybe even 30/60.

Tell Martin his suspenders are awesome.

p.s. I banged one of the masseuses.

If you do some research, you'll find that the Seminole County Commissioners established a "Home Charter" in 1996. There's a section on casino gambling. Basically, it has precedence over any changes to Florida state law. In order to make a change...say to bring gambling in line with the state (ie add poker rooms), a referendum must get approved on the ballot and then it's a matter of a majority vote. One caveat is that gambling referendums may only be attempted two years after the previous attempt.

I've been to all the Seminole casinos in Florida and Immokalee is the smallest, worst casino of the bunch. They even built on to the casino and it still is smallest and the worst. I doubt seriously that anything hedges on Immokalee. They are supposed to build a hotel but that won't happen. If it does, it will be a bad deal for the Seminoles. That casino can't be making that much money. No way. Nothing around there for 50 miles (other than Fort Myers and Naples.) It is unlike any other town in Florida. The only American-English speaking natives are the cops (and Edgerin James). The whole town is either Hispanic, Cuban or Haitian. If you go there you can't ask for directions...no one speaks English. No one in the town works at the casino (or at least very few). Many of the stores have bars on the windows and signs that say "High Crime Area" on the buildings. Dangerous town and their casino sucks. All the other Seminole casinos are nice. But not this one. They do get more fish in the winter time when all the ole people get here. Then it is a nice aquarium for the regular players.

any idea when the law is going to get changed to allow proper NL games?

I play locally in the 1-2 NL games in south fla around 5 days a week. I haven't heard anything about the 100 cap changing. For me, its protected my bankroll. I have NEVER gone broke in South Fla, but in Socal had some tough lessons to learn when I took my shots at the 5/5 and 10/10 NL games with 20% of my roll on the table ;-P

Fla has some of the worst players you could imagine, & I've played everywhere in the US except Vegas. The 5-10 @ the local Seminole room I play is dominated by solid asian players and a few other regular sharks. You would not believe how many idiots, poor foreigners (the drinking / gambling type, not the intelligent ones), weak tights, old men, kids, drunks, drug dealers ETC ETC come and decide to "ball" @ the 5-10 table with the 100 max buyin.

My room usually has 3 tables and a must move, so the main table is usually pretty deep stacked. A $100 raise PF with a decent hand is liable to be called by 3-4 people PF, so the 100 cap doesn't stop the huge stacks from forming.

the 1-2 is annoying with only $100 max buyin, but i have found it helps me, because its easy to get someone to put their whole stack in with more marginal hands and then just pull out a c note for a quick rebuy if they lose.....psychologically i guess. Its different from spending another couple hundred in a regular stake game. I've had multiple +9 BI nights where I didn't run amazing, but lots of players are just apt to pull out another 100 and keep playing poorly.

I am planning on taking a trip in August to the FL state and will be making my rounds to a few of the bigger poker rooms in the state. I play 20/40 regularly at Foxwoods and at the Borgata.

I was wondering where the best limit games are played? I have heard Daytona and Palm Beach have good games. Any other rooms? Also when is the best time of the day to goto these rooms?

I'm all in!!!! I'm not sure the parimutuels are ready for this. They still have an "i'll beleive it when i see it approach." I'm taking the day off when this gets done. I'll be at Marti Gras or Gulfstream (home of the Israeli Whales). These whale have unlimited pockets and are action junkies. I can't wait.

Looks like it's happening July 1. And by "uncapped era," I mean that poker rooms can set their own buy-in limits to anything.

Anybody have more details about whether this is really true or where to look? If it is true, I heard Hardrock in Hollywood may increase their limits earlier than the paramutuals (July 1). Anyone know anything about that? Thanks.

There's a full thread in the legislation forum that can answer all your questions about this.
