Re: FireKeepers Casino (Battle Creek, Michigan)

Did a long session from Monday night at 5pm till about 2pm Tuesday afternoon... when I left I know the bbj hadn't been hit.. took some major hits but was able to pull out a minor win, thanks to having the high hand between the 2am and 10am section... who else here is a regular at firekeepers? I'd like to be able to put faces to names on here

Re: FireKeepers Casino (Battle Creek, Michigan)

Don't think there are too many 2+2 types at 'Keepers. You may want to lurk a bit in the Detroit thread as there are some who play the tournaments. I used to play a lot more down there but a customer of mine dried up. I'll probably be around more once the MSPT qualifiers start up.

As I type they actually have 2 tables going, so there is definitely an increase in play right now. Probably the BBJ and tax season ... GL

Re: FireKeepers Casino (Battle Creek, Michigan)

Played for quite awhile Thursday night .. both 1/2 and PLO. Didn't have the best night but it really did me some good to get away from my normal room/regs. I booked a great session the next day after getting 'some strange' in BC.

Sure, say Hi, I usually wear a GR Drive sweatshirt and/or a fishing hat. I have some 3-Bet clothing as well. At 6'4" I'm not hard to miss and players know me as ST3. GL

Re: FireKeepers Casino (Battle Creek, Michigan)

MSPT 'countdown' starts this week ... Time to get some national (regional for sure) attention!

Fridays Noon and 630 ... $65 Super Sattys, top 20% win $250 towards ME or ME Satty.
Saturday Noon ... see above

Saturday 630 ... $260 ME Satty, top 20% win $1100 ME seat. Must choose Thursday May 18th or Friday May 19th upon winning the seat.

All these certificates can be transferred to other people. Thus you can sell them for 'an agreed value' and walk. A few years back I 'survived' quite a few of these tournaments and turned them all into cash on Thursday Day 1A and just played 2/5 cash games. I couldn't make the Sunday Day 2, but turned all this into more than a min-cash plus whatever I made in 2/5 that night.

There is value to these tournaments no matter your 'situation'. You are basically 'chopping' when you get down to 20% of the field.

NO MORE Saturday Night Bounty until after MSPT passes through on May 21st. GL

Rant(?) about dealer add-ons? Is there something you have against paying dealers $5? I consider it to be reasonable, especially in a satellite where the winners don't typically tip out because they did not receive cash. Also the satellites are $65 ($50+$10+$5), not $70.

Re: FireKeepers Casino (Battle Creek, Michigan)

Okay I screw up, youre right the tourament is $65 . I have no problem paying dealers $5, I have an issue with deceptive practices that some casinos use in relation to add-on. In fact the reason I thought the tourament was $70 was because all the casino workers told me the tourney was $65 then I read about the casino.

some Casino i've played at, advertise a $40 tourament and then ask for the $10 dealer add on at the table. The first time that I happened to me, I felt taken advangte, my choices were ethier to play at shorter stack or to pay more for the tourament than I had planned on.

IN THIS CASE AT FIREKEEPERS i have no issue with the add-ons, but i still feel some casinos use deceptive practices. Just say the tourney is $65 with $5 going to the dealer... (which is what FireKeepers does)

Re: FireKeepers Casino (Battle Creek, Michigan)

Trends in poker are changing. You would never see this 'breakdown' of the entry fee many years ago and some rooms are slower than others to 'properly' advertise the event.

Not sure why they breakdown the $260 events but not the $65 on the official MSPT event listing. The math is easy though when you are handing out $250 and $1100 certificates (and paying 20% of the field) ... any money taken in above that goes to the house and dealers.

I keep track of the dealers and my chip stack during tournaments now on my phone ... And I find a way to take care of them during my cash play outside of the normal tournament 'system'. GL

Anybody know how many runners there have been for the 6:30pm $260 Sattys to MSPT main last two Saturday nights? Thinking of making a trip up soon. Thanks!

Re: FireKeepers Casino (Battle Creek, Michigan)

Pretty sure the first one was well over 100, maybe 140? That may have been a 'promo' night (RV give-a-way) in the whole casino as well but I would expect at least 120 or more every Saturday night with ease.

This MSPT should be another record breaker IMO with it being so close to WSOP time and folks wanting to prep and/or pad their bankroll for Vegas.

Not sure why Milwaukee doesn't have a Thursday Day 1, but their loss for sure. GL

Re: FireKeepers Casino (Battle Creek, Michigan)

Actually got down there this past Saturday afternoon ... just in time for the 2/5 to open around 4 PM! Very lively game with moderate action most hands.

I then jumped into the MSPT $260. Chipped up the first 2 levels (100-100, 100-200) to about 20K but then our table was the first to break and I basically got coolered fairly quickly. I had just opened the 2 previous pots in a row and taken them down PF with AK and AQs.

V opens UTG for 1300 (200-400) and I flat with TT, one other caller. Flop is T64 V bets out 1900 ... I raise to 4200 and V shoves. I call of course assuming/hoping that V has AA/KK .. He shows AK ... Q on River of course. V barely has me covered and sheepishly says ...
1) I thought you were just making a move based on the previous 2 hands.
2) I didn't realize how big your stack was.

So I get back into the 2/5, which had a 'must move' by then and played quite late into the morning!

The MSPT ended up paying out 23 'tickets' so they didn't quite make it to 100.

The $240 didn't quite make it to 100 either on Sunday .. but with lots of tournament action in the region this weekend that's really not too bad of a number. Cash was way down on Sunday IMO though from when I looked at Bravo. GL

I know i'm dumb and I don't know the villian, but the flush draw is his range there. I mean still think its a call, but you said assuming he has AA or KK...

You don't have all the facts ... and I didn't quite put them in there either, so my bad!

You don't shove the balance of 60bb in that spot in a 'survivor' tournament. I see lots of spots in these tournament (really any tournament) where players take undo risk in order to 'chip up' and/or knock someone out. Especially in these Sattys where all you have to do is have 1 chip at the bubble.

Certainly I was at the top of my range (top set) and he probably thought his 'overs' were good as well ... but it's still a -EV (40% max) flip in this type of tournament. The obvious mistake on his part, which led to the shove in the first place, was not knowing how deep I was. Had my stack 'really' only had 20bb or so behind then he's fine with the shove in my book as well .. maybe.

I saw the dealer last night and he thought the Turn was an Ace, so even if either of us flat there on the Flop it would be hard to avoid a lot of chips going in there on the Turn or River. I can get away from the River I think since I'm in position and he would have to be on a 4-barrell bluff there at the end. He indicated that there was quite a bit of chatter about the hand after I left.

These are the exact spots in the WSOP ME where huge stacks get built on Day 1 ... and they end up wondering why they didn't even cash. GL

Re: FireKeepers Casino (Battle Creek, Michigan)

Smashed the record for entries in the 5th Sunday $400 yesterday ... 376 I think. All of the 116 alternates were seated by 800-1600 with 25bb. Not much to work with but I know of 'Alternate 109' that made it down to the final 2-3 tables for a decent cash.

They probably would've played for a lot longer but there was a 6-way chop .. after the 9-way and 7-way chop failed. It would've paid over $26K up top if it had played out.

I'm sure they will continue to review this great tournament. Possibly with an earlier start or even considering going to multiple days. Sure, starting a tournament with 25bb is no fun but pretty much everyone knows what they are signing up for.

They did completely shut down cash play until tournament tables started breaking. So that is still a 'concern' for the room as well, but they did bring in 4 more tables by removing the Blackjack tables that were set up but rarely used. It was sort of nice since the 'high hand' for 2pm-6pm rolled over and gave the winner $500 at 10pm.

Very good 1/2 cash with some $1k stacks. 2/5 didn't last very long but 1/3 PLO was running 2 tables and stayed very strong past Midnight. GL

Great 1/2, 2/5 (late start at 1000 PM) and 1/3 PLO (must move went a few hours) last night. The 1/2 seemed to die down a little early but still had 3 tables going when I left.

BBJ is still there at just under $120K .. GL

How long were they without a cash game running? I would be upset if I had traveled there to play cash only to have to wait for the donkament players to be finished. Did it take them very long to remove the 'non-smoking' pit from the room?

Haha! My man! I am the ginger fellow you described your hand to at the bar next to King's. Funny enough my friends refer to me as "sp3".

Cash was down from (probably) 1145 until past 600. It was nice since I won a 2x High Hand Promo when the $250 rolled over and made it $500 from 6-10 PM. Nice 10 high st flush winner to make up for the $400 lost in the tourney.

The pit was still there on Thursday night so they probably pulled it Friday morning. Doubt they will bring it back before MSPT time .. if they bring it back at all. GL

Nice high hand!

I've never seen the poker room pit active, and I've been there on a few busy Saturday nights.

Do you frequent the 2/5 NL game? I'm wondering about the lineup and how tough it is compared the 1/2 regs.
